The 3-D animation is designed and executed in an unrealistic manner, paying loving attention to light and shadow but tossing the laws of physics out of the nearest classroom window.

It won't be for everyone by any means, but Captain Underpants: The First Movie would be easy to overlook as another kids-only waste of money. But that's not the case. The film subverts this every step of the way and constantly turns in new, unexpected directions in order to surprise and entertain its audience from the start to the end.

I know you'll think I'm exaggerating here, but this will always be a childhood favourite film of mine. It's stupid. Stupidly good. 5/5 stars.

An endlessly inventive and anarchic Dreamworks romp based on the Dav Pilkey children’s books, it thrives on prankster pals, over-matched adults and a hand-drawn comic book hero’s ethos.

To the delight of its young audience, juvenile humor abounds in Captain Underpants, but the movie is smart about the way it contextualizes this lowbrow comedy.

The best animated movies for children are sublime. This one generally settles for noisy, though it throws in a positive message at the end.

Captain Underpants is a very popular book series that doesn’t seamlessly translate to the big screen, and the filmmakers can’t solve this problem. The result is a cinematic wedgie: a little too dark, a little too nihilistic, a little too empty.

Since the movie is based on a children's book, children under 10 will be the only ones who will find it funny. It's not entirely bad, but it shows that both Dreamworks and Disney are in need of a new creative impulse, not a technological one.

Was really good up until the 3rd act when it started to take itself too seriously. Really wish the ten year old boys weren't played by 30+ year old actors.

I was a fan of the books when I was younger, so even though I'm in my mid-20s now I was somewhat looking forward to this. But it ended up being a boring, lazily animated romp (it only cost $38 million compared to the average animated cost of around $125 million), and even the big name voice cast seems to be phoning it in. Kids in my audience didn't even seem to loving it that much, which makes sense seeing as this movie is 15 years overdue...

I hate this movie so much. It has too much potty humor especially when it comes to the villains name. If it weren't for it being a little violently funny or the cast I would give this a 0.
