Blind Ambition

Blind Ambition doesn’t rewrite any rules about documentary filmmaking, and it stumbles into the hokey at the very end. But if one subscribes to the adage that the story is the thing, then it’s hard to beat.

Blind Ambition has plenty of drama to make a wine tasting engaging for even the most devout tea-totaller.

It’s heartwarming, inspirational stuff.

It’s almost too perfectly contoured as a Hollywood narrative.

It doesn’t deal in easy gags or low-hanging speeches. It understands both the thrill and the agony of desperately waiting for your dream to ripen on the vine.

It’s “uplifting,” but conventionally so, with a certain dignity surrounding it. These are, after all, “the finest palettes in Africa.”

This already improbable dream boasts an interesting supporting cast.
