Too Kyo Games easily could have set its niche obsessions of killing games, branching narratives, and mind-bending twists aside and created something that aimed for the widest personal audience in hopes that it would save the studio. Instead, it committed to what it knows, leaning into what has always made its leads’ work so memorable. Where others might have pumped the brakes on their ambitions, Too Kyo slammed its foot on the gas and hoped there would still be another route to follow when it reached the end. The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy may not be for everyone, but anyone can see what it’s done and know that it’s earned their respect.
It doesn’t get more ambitious, and a bit uneven, than this. A visual novel with an interesting premise and a great cast of characters that you can replay to get a huge number of permutations of scenarios and endings.
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is one of the grandest pieces of literature ever written, and it has quality to its quantity. However, at times, the quality suffers as a result, and it could have benefited from a couple of additional editing rounds to weed out certain aspects. Some routes are terrible compared to the general quality of the game. At the end of the day, fans of the Danganronpa and Zero Escape franchises have a game that is on the must-buy list and will last a very long time. It comes strongly recommended to visual novel fans in general, and even to non-gamers who are into heavier pieces of literature.

Like any games it is not entirely perfect (there's two routes that I didn't like) but this game is not obligatory attended to be done at 100 hundred percent. Getting your own version of the story is the purpose of the game after all. The prologue is really excellent. I wasn't expecting nothing from the game at the begining, only to protect the school during 100 days but there's way more to it. I love every single character of the cast, the battles are fun, the exploration too, the variety of endings too. An excellent game really cheap for the content given and the hours of gameplay (I made it with 250, taking time to appreciate every route and battles). Thanks to Kazukata, Uchikochi and every writters, artists, etc. implied in the project !

Hundred Line has been one of the most interesting visual novels I've played in years. I've gotten over half the endings and each new route I experience is always fresh and unique. I personally got tired of the SRPG gameplay after going through several routes, but there have been multiple updates to fix this. We were given the option to skip battles and there were higher difficulty settings added to spice things up for people who wanted to continue doing the defensive battles. From a character stand point the game is quite different from the Dangaronpa series. The characters are given the chance to be fleshed out due to how long the game is and each character is given the chance to shine (or be horrible/rage inducing) depending on the route you're on. Hundred Line is a very ambitious game. Not everything Too Kyo games shot for landed but if you have time (enough to read 6 novels), this is a visual novel that you wouldn't want to pass up.

As someone who has always admired visual novels from the outskirts but has always been hesitant to dive into the genre, it's a testament to the greatness of The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy that I now find myself eager to go back and play through its creators' previous works. But that won't be possible until I invest dozens more hours into Hundred Line's story in an attempt to unlock and see all 100 endings the game has to offer, which feels practically essential given how much enjoyment there is to be found in both its narrative and its TRPG gameplay.

The Hundred Line - Last Defense Academy - is a new masterpiece of mystery video games. Throughout its hundred days, it manages to build a very solid cast of characters with an intriguing story in which turn-based combat is just the icing on the cake.

Last Defense Academy is indulgent in every sense. It’s filled to the brim with complex characters and systems, an absurdly deep story, and wild new art styles and gameplay twists. Kodaka and Tookyo Games know the exact kind of player they designed this game for: the sickos who revel in the off-the-wall absurdity, complexity, and violence of games like Danganronpa. It doubles down on its bizarre ideas instead of making concessions to appeal to a wider audience, and it’s better off for it. You’ll need to commit to Last Defense Academy to really see it through, but if you can, you won’t regret it for a second.

Hey Poor Player
The very idea of bringing together the minds behind Danganronpa and Zero Escape will be enough to get many fans of this genre in the door. They’ll find that The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- is an incredibly ambitious title which may not have some of what they expect in the early going, but will ultimately give them everything they’re looking for and more.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is an excellent strategy RPG that follows the same aesthetics and themes of the Danganronpa series while being an entirely different game and IP. The game offers a straightforward combat system that's easy to pick up and play while offering some challenging battles. In addition, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy brings an intriguing and eccentric cast of characters with a compelling narrative and shock value at some points of the story.

If you devoured the Danganronpa and Zero Escape series in the same way that I did, and you’re also cool with playing a decent tactics game as you unfurl the mysteries instead of going to trial or solving escape room puzzles, then you’ll feel fully satisfied by what feels like a natural progression of these two series blending together. It’ll never escape apples-to-oranges comparisons with so much in-your-face Danganronpa, which might be off-putting for some, but that’s a highlight for people like me who loved that series and the games it inspired. Though the tactical elements never quite felt like they were prioritized as heavily as the narrative, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy earns its stripes as the next in the line of spiritual successors, given how close a chord it strikes to both Danganronpa and Zero Escape.

The Hundred Line - Last Defence Academy is a pretty solid turn-based strategy game buried under an avalanche of terrible anime tropes and mediocre storytelling.

It’s an excellent and ambitious game, that has some pacing fumbles but the sheer quality of writing and the depth of possibilities more than makesup for it. With 100 ends each of which are rich with unique story content, the game is a real treasure that’s worth embracing for years.

The game has some interesting points, but in its current state it is too buggy to be marketable. There are major game-crashing bugs that make your save file unable to load (preventing game progress). I have the Switch version, Hong Kong region, and am stuck by one such bug that is supposed to be fixed by patch v 1.0.5, but the release of said patch here is over a month late so I cannot play the game. There are still many other bugs too. Do not buy this game, at least until a lot later when it stabilizes. I will not be buying anything first-round from this maker again. They do not know how to properly make a bug-free game or to fix the bugs promptly. Update: They eventually released the update, and the game is now stable (Switch v1.1.2). Overall, the game is mildly interesting with some good moments, but there are also plenty of routine and fillers.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is a unique experience for fans of visual novels and tactical RPGs. With a deep narrative and multiple endings, the game offers an engaging journey, though its long duration and repetitiveness may be obstacles for some players.

Well, I like Weeby stuff. I guess I am moderately Weeby but this game is so far past my threshold for cringe that it is completely ruined by it. Even when I knew noone could see what was on screen, I still felt embarrassed even though I was alone. The character writing in some cases is absolutely awful. After a while some new characters got introduced and not only did the level of cringe continue, it got worse. Graphically it's nice. It's a bit paper cut out like 13 Sentinels but without the horrible clunkiness of that game. OST is alright. I remember thinking a few tracks sounded nice but none stuck in my head, or had me looking for them on youtube. Gameplay is great. Grid based battles that are simple to get to grips with and fun. The outdoors sections of the game that look like a cheap board game aren't much fun. It's like Danganronpa vs Fire Emblem but without the charm of either. It was a really dumb move from the devs to ruin this with such ridiculous characters. They even manage to make the guy from Final Fantasy 10 seem palatable, they're literally that bad. Two in particular a little round kid and a brother, if you've played, then you'll know. I'm gonna keep this spoiler free though. If you haven't played Fire Emblem Three Houses and Danganronpa, then there is absolutely zero point in getting this inferior mixture of the two. Just play those instead. Anyone with a Switch should play Three Houses anyway, it's the best Switch game. 100 Line was a potentially top grade game, ruined by idiotic writing.

I've played enough to know that the gameplay is fun and the art style (although hasn't changed much from the Danganronpa days) is still unique and stylish. The story is something I want to enjoy but in my few hours with the game, I've already noticed some localiser changes that makes me highly doubt how authentic the experience is to the original Japanese script. There are a lot of references and terms that are used that wouldn't have equivalents in Japanese. There's an art to translating scripts between languages and cultures without making large changes to the characters and plot. From what I've seen from the English version when I compared it to a stream of the original Japanese version, they've not done a good job at all. There's a lot of Gen-Z speak and current day reference terms that just aren't in the Japanese version. One line where a character said something on the lines of "you'll get pwnzored" was just Hai aka yes in the Japanese version. My advice is get the Steam version and wait for the inevitable fan translation patch that'll fix all of this. This way you'll get an accurate idea of the story and the character personalities. After all we're aren't we paying for the developers story and not some localiser who thinks they can rewrite a plot better than the original game script writers?
