At its best, The Casting of Frank Stone works as an exploration of inevitability. Before the player ever takes control of the teens making a movie in the ’80s, they already have some inkling of how that part of the story will end. What makes the game special, though, is how much latitude it gives the player within that structure, allowing them to play out their version of the story to a truly impressive degree by using Dead By Daylight‘s dimension-hopping Entity as a justification for the wilder swings that can be taken. In this world the bad guys always win, but that doesn’t mean the conflict can’t lead to some amazing drama.
The Casting of Frank Stone is a great introduction to the world of Dead by Daylight for newcomers and a love letter for long-term fans. Even if you’re only looking for a decent survival horror game, I recommend checking it out. It’s well-written, engaging, and tells a well-paced and creepy tale without overstaying its welcome.
The Casting Of Frank Stone is an evolution of the formula Supermassive Games have been cultivating for years. A strong diverse cast with wonderful voice acting helps propel the intense and chilling moments on display in this horror tale. Great quality of life improvements and innovations create strong benchmarks for interactive games. Whilst a rushed and muddled final act and the lack of co-op hurt the games overall appeal, there’s more than enough for horror fans to enjoy. Dead By Daylight fans will have an absolute blast with this game, as I did. See you in the fog!

The reviews I'm seeing online don't really match my experience. I found this game boring af. Luckily it was on Game Pass because paying solely for this game would've been such a disappointment. I loved The Quarry,Until Dawn, even House of Ashes but this is a level beneath each of those. Pretty terrible VA, very very long segments of just watching cutscenes, and very little interaction. Not worth your time.

Basically cut scene after cutscene. very little interaction And what it is required (Because it's generally cut scenes) You've got your Controller on the table Beside you. And when you're suddenly prompted React Insanely quickly You don't have any time to do so. And fail. And as a result it changes the desired course and fate Of the game as that's how it's designed. There's basically nothing to do until the last four or five minutes by which time you're toast. it's an incredibly frustrating game absolute waste of time that I don't recommend to anybody. Hours of my life wasted.

The Casting of Frank Stone is a surprising treat in numerous ways. It’s longer than I expected, taking somewhere between six and eight hours to complete depending on how thorough you are in exploring each area. I was expecting Dark Pictures length, but this is more on par with The Quarry. It warrants that running time too, packing in a lot of thrills, adventuring and storytelling. It’s also surprising in that it does a fantastic job of pulling you into the world of Dead by Daylight: it might not rely on you knowing much about the universe, but there’s a good chance you’ll come away wanting to play. When it was announced, a collaboration between Supermassive and Behaviour sounded strange, but seeing it come to fruition, it’s nothing less than a stroke of genius.

The Casting of Frank Stone is the most beautiful game made by Supermassive, in terms of visuals. Full of special references to Dead by Daylight, it has a shorter and slower narrative than the conventional, but stands out for its creativity, good twists and innovations in accessibility.

If you expect the whole dbd experience, it's not for you. If you're looking for a fun and engaging survival horror experience, you'll be happy.

The Casting of Frank Stone takes some big swings with its story’s final act that pay off and elevate what otherwise could’ve been just another narrative-focused horror game. Supermassive does a good job of adding some action to its exploration sections and layering in plenty of Easter eggs from the series. Dead by Daylight fans are sure to have a blast, and I hope this isn’t Supermassive’s last foray into making a horror game in an established world.

Though The Casting of Frank Stone doesn’t make any sweeping changes to the formula etched out by the likes of Until Dawn, The Quarry and The Dark Pictures Anthology, it does manage to effectively marry up that formula with the universe of Dead by Daylight with impressive results. Notably, the usual flaws also apply here, with The Casting of Frank Stone beset by the same plodding horror adventuring, wooden dialogue and mostly annoying cast of characters that are usually the hallmarks of similar efforts. If however, you’re fine with all of that and just want another handsomely made Supermassive Games romp then The Casting of Frank Stone will surely appeal. Should you be a devoted Dead by Daylight aficionado though, feel free to add a point or more to the score and dive in.

Frank's casting is a good adaptation of the Dead by Daylight universe for a single-player game. In particular, we appreciate the references and the way the lore has been integrated. Also the deaths are very graphic which is a good thing. Unfortunately, there are the same shortcomings as in other Supermassive Games games: too few plot differences, pacing problems and a lack of empathy for the characters. You'll spend a pleasant evening alone or with others, but that's as far as it goes.

A bland horror narrative adventure, too focused on paying homage to the Dead by Daylight universe rather than on creating a compelling and convincing story.

There’s a tense, challenging and truly immersive game to be made in the butterfly-effect, play-the-movie genre; take the pace and drama of Quantic’s Detroit: Become Human. Sadly, Supermassive are determined to stick to a very old and restrictive script.

Loved this game. Supermassive Games just knows how to make these sort of games. Excellent story and great vibes overall. If you like the "Stranger Things" and "Dark" series on Netflix you will love this game. I can only recommened this game :)

The game is more for Dead by Daylight fans than fans of the classic Supermassive games. If you don't know Dead by Daylight, you just won't understand some things. The game is also too short to satisfactorily deal with such a complex topic as time travel. Technically everything was perfect for me on the PS5. Please to Supermassive Games: Stick with your good mix of big games like Until Dawn or The Quarry and your Dark Pictures series. I'm excited about Directive 8020.
