Hitting shots is a random affair rather than a sweet science, and the impressive array of street-ball moves (the highlight of the game) are rendered superfluous due to faulty A.I. and crude, if easily accessible, controls. [Winter 2002, p. 99]

A very lackluster effort... The gambling and clothing options are very cool, but it can get old fast once you start to play the game and see how unbalanced the physics of the game are.
71
While not an entirely bad game, Street Hoops misses the mark completely and doesn’t fully capture the passion of an authentic street game.

Straddles the line between arcade and simulation nicely. Players move, look, and behave in a realistic fashion, but fatigue, substitutions, and playcalling don’t interrupt the fun.

It offers a lot of features that will keep a street basketball fan interested in this game. Still, if you aren’t into street basketball or not a big basketball fan, I can’t suggest giving this game more than a rental.
67
There's not enough basketball to keep you engaged as a gamer looking for a new hoops experience and far too much attention paid to an ill-conceived representation of what life is supposed to be like for playground all-stars.
63
With the bad defensive AI and awful collision detection problems and the unrealistic every-shot-is-good offensive abilities of the CPU opposition, the only ones who may be interested in buying Street Hoops are players that have actually hooped it up on some of the real-world courts contained in the game.

Street Hoops is so bush league it's not even funny. Call it "Barkley Shut Up & Jam 3." [Sept 2002, p.89]
34
If half the effort was spent on improving gameplay as was exerted in acquiring licensed products, then the game would have been much better. Sadly, this is not the case.
25
Street Hoops tries to capture the sensationalized style of hardcore playground ball, but only manages to come off as a weak, thinly veiled copycat.
