STARBITES
STARBITES is a very simple JRPG, but I think that’s one of the game’s strengths. Almost all of its systems are stripped down, and easy to understand. It’s not an innovative game, and it’s not a challenging game. Anyone who likes the idea of a straightforward cozy JRPG should absolutely check it out. If you want Dragon Quest with robots, STARBITES is the game for you.
A few quirky characters and some turn-based battles struggle to hide that Starbites is a very middling JRPG far more concerned with silly banter than a compelling plot. It's passable salvage, but there's better out there if you know where to look.
STARBITES is a JRPG with a nostalgic charm and traditional gameplay systems that create a highly entertaining loop. However, it also features a story that fails to fully engage, rather lackluster technical aspects, and is released without a translation—a factor that significantly limits its accessibility to a large number of players.

This one is better than many JRPGs these days. It has an English voice track which is oddly getting more of a challenge to find in these mid tier JRPGs. However the game is very basic and feels uninspired. At the $50 entry price you have this and Expedition **** play 33.

Starbites is that JRPG that stays true to its promise, delivering exactly what is on the tin. Its turn-based gameplay borrows some formulas and mechanics from other JRPGs, which may feel uninspired to some fans but can be a novelty to others. It's delightful in the first hours, but it can get a bit stale and repetitive by the second half. The narrative is solid, and the story is very coherent with everything presented, with great highlights given to the charismatic cast. Despite being only a 20-hour journey, it still suffers from pacing issues here and there. Overall, Starbites is a neat, straightforward experience for those who need a break from 100-hour JRPGs.

STARBITES may be generic in a lot of ways but there's no denying how charming its cast is and how well its many elements come together to formulate a rewarding battle system that gradually becomes more strategic as you progress.

Starbites is a simple, yet solid turn-based RPG. Though its first few hours did not leave a strong impression on me, the game got much better the more I played. Despite a few bugs, frequent backtracking, and the disparity over its 2D and 3D visuals, I can certainly tell that Ikinagames tried their best with this game as a small studio with ambitious goals. They succeeded in providing a satisfying gameplay loop, because Starbites is at its best when it comes to customizing party synergies to push through tougher fights. If you’re willing to give Starbites some time to blossom, I think you will walk away with a satisfying RPG experience.

Noisy Pixel
STARBITES is a scrappy sci-fi JRPG with an engaging lead character, rewarding boss battles, and surprisingly rich worldbuilding beneath its rough exterior. While the turn-based combat system shows flashes of strategic depth, repetitive dungeon design, shallow regular encounters, and dated presentation prevent the adventure from reaching its full potential. Fans of shorter retro-inspired RPGs may still find charm in its heartfelt cast and bleak post-war setting, but the experience often feels stuck between nostalgic homage and underdeveloped ambition.

Starbites ultimately sits firmly in the middle of the RPG spectrum, never really approaching either end of it. There are plenty of enjoyable moments involving the character interactions or when the combat and exploration get into a good rhythm, but it never really takes that extra step needed to stick in the memory. Nonetheless, it’s an enjoyable enough way to spend the time, and there’s a strong base for IKINAGAMES to be able to build upon going forward.
