Volition gets many things right in Saints Row: The Third in what is no doubt a fine sequel, but it's very much a case of sequelitis for the THQ franchise. The zany and over-the-top nature, well-written script and whole host of sandbox toys are held back ever so slightly by the oddly paced and repetitive proceedings of the game's main story.

Saint's Row: The Third sets out with a great ambition of giving the player freedom and an arsenal of fun elements to play with. Unfortunately, though, the game still falls a bit short with a somewhat childish sense of humour and quirky game mechanics.

Despite my gripes with the multiplayer options, the 10-to-12-hour campaign's still very much worth the price of admission, and it needs to be seen to be believed-trust me, this game's done more than enough to earn its "M" rating from the ESRB.

This zany sequel is a step down from "Saints Row 2". It's a shorter game with less diversity and content. Still, it's a lot of fun with bigger action set pieces, refinements and some additions such as the horde mode. And like its predecessors, you can play the campaign with a buddy online. However, the competitive multiplayer from previous titles was cut out. Overall, I'd rate this with an 8 out of 10.

The game crashed out twice towards the end of long missions and when I restarted, I was in my crib so I had to start from the beginning, even driving back to the location. This is unacceptable. Don't buy this game. And these studios wonder why they go out of business.

The game is well written and the city of steelport is a great sandbox for fun. But, the ai is probably the worst in any game ive ever seen in my life. Some missions (the zombie and three way ones) are downright stupid in how they work. And there are inconsistencies everywhere. The luchadores specialist makes no sense for them, the morningstar are killed off in like 4 missions, killbane and playa become friends for some reason, zimos is annoying as hell, and they nerfed the kobras so badly that you HAVE to use the laser rifle, even though the cooling mechanic isnt fleshed out enough to make using it any fun. The games fine but has so many major flaws and they just simply ruin it most of the time.

Volition has done an excellent job of giving you a place to play and toys to play with, so grab a partner, an SMG, and start making your own stories.

The Third is probably the funniest sandbox of this generation. It required three games, but finally Saints Row shows its true face.

Many years after my first completion of this beautiful game. I decided to go through it again. And, to my surprise, I realised that this game was so great that I laughed at it, I got high on it, and I was really interested in playing it. 10/10

One of the best games I've ever played. Its amazing from its story, graphics to action. You can basically do what ever you want in this game and I love it.

With the industry taking itself more and more seriously, Volition thumbs its nose at convention and gives you one hell of a ride. Expect that to escalate once you grab a buddy and hit co-op - just take my advice and keep friendly fire off, even if you're a masochist.

Saints Row: The Third does deliver what players are looking for when they purchase the title. It can be said that the developers poured over the game design and completely removed anything that would be considered boring or tedious, and replaced it with pure amoral mayhem.

Saints Row: The Third is the best sandbox game I've played in a long while. There's no realism, no seriousness whatsoever, just completely mental and over-the-top fun. If that's not your thing then this game is definitely not for you. If you like outlandish fun however, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

The big issue I have with Saints Row: The Third is that it doesn't feel like its content, varied though it may be, has much of a purpose outside of the main campaign. The open world really seems to exist more as a way to prolong the experience by forcing a player to travel to the origin point for the next mission rather than simply having it begin outright.

For players new to Saints Row, I would imagine the experience to be more positive than mine if for no reason other than sheer novelty. However, as someone who's now been through all three games, the formula and content in The Third is dreadfully stale, and well past its expiration date.

While Saints Row 3 takes the craziness of its predecessor and dials it up to 11, it somehow never manages to exhaust you. Definitely a different vibe from the first two games, but Saints 3 continues in the direction of distancing itself from its former title as a GTA clone.

Saints Row 3 and I have always had a rocky relationship. I was so excited for it to release due to my love for the 2nd installment and upon playing, I really enjoyed it but I pretty quickly realized that it didn't hold a candle to Saints Row 2. I still feel that way. The game is pretty good and it did a good job a establishing a more unique identity from Grand Theft Auto but the amount of cut content from SR2 is just too much for me to even consider having a conversation about which one is better. To me, 2 is undeniably a better game in almost every single aspect. That's why, for a long time, I really didn't like Saints Row 3. Nowadays, I'm closer to the middle. I can appreciate it for what it is but I won't forget how much substance is gone from Saints Row 2... but on its own, it ain't half bad.
I beat this game in August of 2020 after beating it many times before.

Honestly, you won't like this game if you played "Saints row 2". Jokes are rarely ever funny, story is bland, and lacked elements of roleplay brought in by Saints row 2. I don't care much about most of these besides the story. I'm not usually one to care much about the story of games but Saints row: The Third failed to bring even a decent story. Gameplay was fine though.

As a huge fan of the second game it may be true that my expectations were a bit too high. I thought that they would deliver the kind of sequel that takes the good elements of its predecessor and make them even better. Saints Row The Third does certainly crank it up but it cranks it up in places where it isn't needed. The best example is the humour; SR2 was a silly game but it also took itself seriously as well, from time to time. In the third game the humour is still immature and silly but the second game was clever too. The writing in my opinion went completely out the window; now it feels like they're just pandering to reach out to as big an audience as possible. Combat is very repetitive as the AI is straight up **** and the harder enemies are not hard because they're well-designed but more so because they just have larger health-pools than their low-life counterparts. Weapon-variety is welcome here but doesn't really save the gameplay when that's what you'll be doing most of the time. Character-customization is absolutely ridiculous (not as good as in SR2 though) and that is probably the game's biggest strength as both the story and gameplay fall short. My last gripe is that the characters are very bland and boring. This is most likely as a result of the lack-luster writing, all the gangs seem insignificant and not one of them stands out as truly unique or interesting.
