Ryse is a bit of a marmite game, if you are looking for a great gaming experience that takes forever to perfect then Ryse is not for you. If you are interested in a Roman interactive movie with a solid story line then I’d say give it a shot.

Ryse: Son of Rome is a really good looking game, but at the same time incredible stupid. Thanks to the graphics and the amount of brutal combat the adventure managed to entertain, at least for a bit. If you find Ryse on sale it can be worth a closer look, but for a full price game it’s a disappointment.

HIGHLY underrated game - a true gem, "Gladiator" if it was a video game. Super fun and looks incredible to this day. The gameplay is tight and packed with action. The story is also pretty good. Beat it in one day and don't find it bad - if anything, I prefer that the game doesn't overstay its welcome and you can always do another run and/or multiplayer if you'd like to play for more.

When I finished playing this game, I felt like I wanted more. That’s the mark of a good game.

Even with its faults, Ryse is a game that one should experience as it does offer a glimpse of what next-gen can be on the Xbox One.

In 2025, where games have become long, boring, and lacking in ideas and good storytelling, this game, released over a decade ago, boasts a fantastic story, combat, progression, and unique gameplay. Even after more than 12 years, we haven't seen a game like it. It will remain one of the most beautiful short games I've played.

It’s a shame there appears to be components of the Kinect-only version of Ryse in the final product, which would account for the design that bounces between overly easy and challenging.

The perfect launch game, doing nothing new, arguably less so than current gen games but adequately showing off the new hardware - think of it as a tech demo with quick time event executions and you will not be disappointed.

For lack of a better description, it’s Microsoft’s attempt at a more realistic version of rival Sony’s highly successful mythological God of War series. But where the PlayStation’s brawler games have been inventive and varied in the action and scenarios they’ve thrown at players, Ryse is a monotonous drone that keeps pounding the same one note over its 10-hour-or-so campaign.

A shallow and unambitious tech demo, of the sort that console launches specialise in. The action works perfectly well but it’s instantly repetitive to the point of inanity.

I’ve always wanted to try this game, and I did many years later. Everyone said it was too repetitive, and they were right. The fun turned into an unpleasant routine.

Empire of boredome... Game is beautiful even in 2023. Camera is terrible and may make you sick, and I am not that type of person talking about camera angles in games. Gameplay is run forward and press hit to beat all enemies, which are only 3-4 types. You will not miss anything, if you skip this game.
