Where it all started. I remember playing it as a kid, and it made me fall with the franchise. The gameplay is a bit stiff, but for a game released 30 years ago, it was truly revolutionary.

Just 100% the game, took me 5 playthroughs of the game and in neither of the play throughs did it feel like a drag like previous resident evil games. The game play is just amazing either with grace or Leon both game plays feel so different and refreshing even after my 4th play through. Story was amazing thrilling and captivating full with truns and surprises. Can't wait for a DLC for this one

My personal favorite is RE1, I will never get that first feeling back of the genius suspense and horror. The first zombie scene in my friends basement in the pitch black sticks with me for life.

You, the master of unlocking!“).

I tried playing RE1 in 3 different occasions, first two on the NDS version, this last one on the PSX. Third time is the charm, i really enjoyed it and once i decoded my resident evil brain, the game got quite smooth.

The first "Resident Evil" is a true PlayStation classic. Inspired by George Romero's "Living Dead" film series, it is both creepy and campy. Set in an empty mansion filled with hidden rooms and puzzles, the game offers two different ways to experience it. At the start, you're given the choice of selecting either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine. Each character has unique abilities and their story plays out differently. While the GameCube remake was an improvement, it's still worth playing this very first release. I would rate it with a 9.1 out of 10.

I don't know why it has taken me this long to play a Resident Evil game, but I'm glad I waited. I don't think my adolescent brain would have appreciated it as much as I have. The PS1 is a bit old for my generation. I grew up with my earliest consoles being the PS2 and DS Lite, but spent most of my childhood on an Xbox 360. Because of this, I expected much less for a PS1 game. The world was plenty large enough, the narrative was prominent, the items were great. I even noticed some quality-of-life implementations (e.g. the map colouring the rooms you've entered) which definitely surprised me for a game of this age. The innovation and technical ability of the console and the developers from 1996 for a 3D game blew my expectations well out of the water. There is something very eerie about this game. I knew nothing of Resident Evil before playing this one, so I was expecting it to be much 'scarier', I suppose, than it was. There was only one occasion I can remember where I was jump-scared. But that was it. Even for a game this early, they were relying on the creepy nature of the art style and sounds to freak you out instead of resorting to cheap jump-scares. Brilliant. Exactly what I wanted from a thriller/survival horror game. The puzzles were excellent. I knew it was heavy on puzzles before playing and was sort of expecting to have to google some at some point, but actually, I managed to complete the game start to finish on my first playthrough with no research at all. I'm not saying it's easy, but I am saying it is totally doable if you take mental notes throughout your playthrough. Each time I solved a puzzle and got to the next significant part of the game it felt really good. The voice acting is absolutely terrible, I love it. I need to know more about these people. Were they trying to be that bad on purpose? Were they actors? Did the development team have volunteers, then decided to select each employee that didn't volunteer? Were they being forced at gunpoint to read from the script? Lastly, why did it improve my interpretation of the game drastically? I found myself in moments of frustration due to the very old school save system. I totally understand having limited saves. It makes the player much more careful throughout their experience, forcing the player to take more time in each of their decisions. BUT, when you've saved the game at the nearest possible point near a part that you're stuck on, it is annoying having to repeat the un-skippable cut-scenes and/or the route each time you inevitably fail. All in all, this game was an excellent experience. I enjoyed (almost) every second. If you're thinking about starting out your Res Evil journey, do it. This game made it to my top 10 (25/04/25).

Never played the original game but metacritic won't allow me to remove the rating made by accident! I'm sure it's a great game though, the remakes are stellar

[Cofre ****)

This first entry in the legendary franchise is a PS1 horror classic. Partially inspired by the George Romero zombie films, RE is a highly-inventive ride that is both cheesy and scary. It established the foundation of survival horror that is still emulated to this day. Set in an empty mansion filled with hidden areas and puzzles, the game offers two different ways to experience it. At the start, you're given the choice to select either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine. Each character has unique abilities and their own story plays out differently. While the GameCube remake was an improvement, it's still worth playing this very first release. I would rate it with a 9.1 out of 10.

The game that started it all. A legendary game that paved the way for almost every game today. Even silly action games now have puzzles and horror elements because of Resident Evil. I read a review on here from someone named "Cchh" who gave the game a "0" for superficial reasons. He complained about the graphics and character designs "looking like it was designed in the early 90s." Uh, the game was designed in the early to mid 90s, you id!ot! Smdh

Capcom's classic coined the phrase "survival horror," and still holds up today as one of the best examples of the genre. Resident Evil features pitch perfect pacing and a fantastic blend of puzzles and tense gameplay, even despite its low budget voice acting and dated visuals, not to mention incredible replay value with multiple characters and endings.

Where do I even begin with this abysmal excuse for a game? Resident Evil for PlayStation is an utter disappointment, and I'm convinced it was designed to torment players rather than entertain them. Capcom should be ashamed of themselves for releasing this steaming pile of digital horror. First and foremost, the graphics are an insult to the PlayStation's capabilities. I've seen better visuals on a Game Boy! The character models look like they were created in the early '90s, and the environments are so bland and pixelated that I wondered if I had mistakenly booted up a retro game. And don't even get me started on the controls! It's as if the developers purposefully wanted to make the simplest tasks, like walking or turning around, a Herculean challenge. I spent more time fumbling with the awkward controls than actually playing the game. Is this some sadistic attempt to add artificial difficulty? If so, they succeeded, but not in a way that makes the game enjoyable. Furthermore, the so-called "storyline" is a convoluted mess. It's as if the writers took random horror clichés and tossed them into a blender without any regard for coherence or logic. The plot twists are predictable, and the dialogue is so cringe-worthy that it had me rolling my eyes more than cowering in fear. But wait, there's more! The audio design is another travesty. The voice acting is laughably bad, and the sound effects are so jarring and poorly timed that they end up killing any semblance of suspense or tension. Oh, and let's not forget about the infuriating save system. Limited save slots and the absence of an autosave feature turned the game into a frustrating exercise in repetition. It's 2023, for crying out loud! How can a modern game lack such a basic feature that has been standard for years? To add insult to injury, the game is riddled with bugs and glitches. From clipping issues to game-breaking freezes, it's clear that little to no quality assurance was done before releasing this disaster. In conclusion, Resident Evil for PlayStation is an absolute travesty. It's a shameful cash-grab that preys on fans' nostalgia without delivering anything remotely worthwhile. Save your money, spare your sanity, and stay far away from this nightmarish disaster ****.

Ground breaking adventure that inspired the entire "survival horror" genre. Hugely atmospheric and unique at the time, although the camera angles can sometimes be awkward (ie having to shoot at enemies you can't actually see) and the suspect dialogue and voice acting is occasionally unintentionally hilarious. But it's still a hugely enjoyable blast from the past.

The original Resident Evil for the PS1 is a true classic. Capcom's innovative zombie game is a cheesy, but intense ride from beginning to end. It inspired countless of other similar horror games. While it's very much a creation of the late 90's, the game still holds up well. I would rate it with a 9.2 out of 10.

The truth is that it's a good game and the only thing I see as bad is the slightly high difficulty peak, which may be the only one and seem unfair, but apart from that it's a good survival horror game with very iconic moments that. It's worth playing.

I've wanted to play this game for a long time, and now I've got my hands on it. A classic Japanese horror game. The puzzles are extremely interesting and not too difficult at the same time, which is a plus for me, because in the same LEGO games it can be very difficult to figure things out. Most of all I want to appreciate the soundtrack, it's a masterpiece. The fixed camera view did not bother me at all. 9/10, minus a point only because of the difficulty of compatibility with modern OS

I'll be synthetic. The game is filled to the brim with entirely gratuitous scripted actions. I hate those. Many scenarios are likewise gratuitously slow. I hate that. Zombies' reactions to attacks reek of brawler games. Tekken wasn't as clumsy though.
