Najlepsza strzelanka FPS jaka kiedykolwiek powstała. Potem jedynie co było tak dobre i spopularyzowało gatunek to Half life 1 i 2.

Quake II sets a new standard for sci-fi FPS with immersive levels, advanced graphics, and intense multiplayer. A timeless classic.

Quake 2 wasnt much of an improvement over the original graphics wise. The story is as forgettable as the original but it is better in the sense that you have actual objectives and not just key hunting. The sound and music are good. The gameplay is satisfying. The guns are fun to use, the enemies are balanced and it is fun to play it through.

La suite du "phénomène" Quake est devenue un jeu à part entière (et non plus une démo technique) qui a sensiblement développé son univers et délaissé le gothique décadent et sans objet pour une science-fiction guerrière plus classique mais nettement mieux présentée. Quake 2 a perdu une bonne partie de ses oripeaux marrons, marques déprimantes de fabrique du premier épisode et propose désormais des niveaux moins uniformes, les ennemis (des extra-terrestres énervés...) sont moins "monstrueux"... Les armes sont bien entendu toujours le point fort du jeu ainsi que la nervosité et la violence générale qui ne font certainement pas dans la dentelle : une jouabilité immédiate et brute de décoffrage ! Les niveaux restent néanmoins assez tordus et obligent à des allers-retours récurrents et incessants entre eux pour remplir les "objectifs"... c'est à un point tel qu'on est assez vite soûlé par ce qui devient un "running à shooting simulator" incroyablement répétitif. Carmack et son équipe n'ont donc pas encore réussi à exploiter comme il aurait fallu sa technologie -ici étonnamment efficace graphiquement parlant- pour en faire autre chose qu'un jeu beau et parfois furieux mais trop ballot et ennuyeux sous sa jolie surface.
