Difficulty spikes are laughably inconsistent, beginner is so easy its boring, normal is manageable and fun until the near end of a mission and then they crank up from a 4 to an 11, guaranteeing failure. Absolute gutter trash

NMRIH 2 is a fantastic zombie thriller and is a perfect sequel. You play as an emergency services volunteer turned support millitia, during the zombie apocalypse, your job is to enter an overrun area and provide support in terms of stabilising industrial facilities, assisting with evacuation, and securing and uploading medical data. You are not a soldier, you are not a warrior, killing zombies is difficult, supplies are limited and if you mess around, you will die. This is not an easy game, even on normal difficulty. You will be under constant stress, worrying about infection, supplies, approaching zombies and objectives, intensifying until extraction. The game features two game modes: Objective: In Objective, there are two map types: open and linear. In an open map, your team of survivors is spread all around the corners of the map, and you need to move towards the centre to complete the main objective, gathering supplies and completing sub-objectives along the way to succeed. The closer you get to the centre, the more dense the zombies get, reaching its apex during the final objective and subsequent extract. A linear map is very similar except all the survivors start together at one end of a large facility and need to work their way through the entire facility together. Survival: This is a wave defence mode where your team of survivors gather supplies and set up defences in a key area to defend against impending waves of undead before moving onto the next areas and eventually extraction. To close, when this game launched initially in early access, it was in absolute shambles and was a nightmare to play despite its good core gameplay loop (this is reflected in the low overall review scores). Since then, the devs have completely transformed the game, effectively fixing all of these issues, making the game smooth as butter to play, and throwing in some great content as a bonus. In my personal opinion, this game is unique, fantastic and well worth picking up if you're a fan of tense zombie survival. The content is a bit limited (no doubt due to the mountain of fixes that were required), but all extremely high quality and likely to be expanded upon post-launch.

I absolutely love it. The intensity of zombie survival was not captured like this before in my opinion.

Having played since day 1 of the early access period, I think I can confidently say that the launch version of this game is leagues above the broken mess that was released back in 2024. Personally, despite the game-breaking bugs, lack of optimization, and weird design choices that crippled the game early on, I always believed that at its core, it was simply fun to play. While not exactly the sequel that most of us expected during development, I still think the essence of the first game and its Romero inspiration came through enough to be worthy of the title. With cross-play now in the cards, years of added content alongside launch additions, and ongoing bug fixes and optimization, this game has scratched an itch for me that no other zombie shooter has managed to since Left 4 Dead.
