This game boasts a decent plot and a good variety of creatures, as well as quite a few elements to explore that will certainly appeal to completionists. It doesn't have enough to stand on its own against its more well-established competitors, however, and often its lack of originality stands out, especially as far as the creatures' design goes.

Again, there’s literally nothing original going on here, and if you’re going to play Nexomon on the Switch, you should probably only do so after you’ve thoroughly exhausted your Pokémon options. But if you’re playing it on another system — or even if you just want to return to the days of a top-down Pokémon — then you could do a lot worse than checking out Nexomon.

Clearly a clone of Pokémon, albeit a very well done one. With a large world to discover and hundreds of Nexomon to catch there's plenty to play if your monster breeding thirst is not yet placated.

Quite a competent and creative Pokemon-clone with fast combat and overall many nice little additions. However, the story is brutally linear and leaves you exactly one path to take at every time. There is zero room for exploring. The nexomon are quite inventive and the overall design is good; however, almost all of them have the same stats so it doesnt really matter how you build your team. Also the way they learn new skills and attacks is convoluted and fleshed out better in the sequel. If it werent for the suffocating linearity, this could have been a really great game, althouhg its a miracle how a blatant copy of another IP is even allowed to exist.

This game is a perfect secondary game to help break up whatever primary game you may be playing. Fun and witty dialogue and a solid enough story to keep things rolling along. It did get a little grindy at the end but that made beating the final boss much more rewarding. Easy recommendation as this game is on sale frequently!

Nexomon takes heavy inspiration from similar games like Pokemon, but it is by no means a direct copy. The game has both positvie and negative differences from other monster tamer games. It has a solid story, which can stand up against most Pokemon games; however, the characters don't stand out enough to drive the story forward. The monster design is pretty well done overall, although some look like basic animals. The art style is different, and has more of a top-down view, similar to old Pokemon games, but it does look nice, especially seeing some of the more important monsters. One of the game's strongest parts is the writing, as the lines are all delivered and crafty in a pretty good manner. Overall, as mentioned, the story is the biggest reason to try this game.

I hope Nexomon continues to perform well and grow from here. The developers really do have an opportunity to take what they've done across the first two titles and build it into "the alternative Pokémon", especially considering that both Yokai Watch and Dragon Quest Monsters seem to be on the wane. Nexomon isn't quite the game that its (console) predecessor is, but it's still a warm, comfortable, and amusing experience, and while it can be frustrating at times to try and catch all 300+ monsters on offer, they're so ultra-cute that you'll do it - and love it - anyway.

Great game, many would say it's a Pokemon based game but it really isn't, everything is different, game is funny and entertaining.

Overall Nexomon on Switch is much better served in the sequel Nexomon:Extinction, than in this version. Whilst having its moments of fun and slightly addictive gameplay, it is still at its core a mobile game that’s really best enjoyed in smaller 5-10 increments rather than a proper hour or two of normal playtime. It was disappointing to see that no effort was made to update the game from the mobile with the exception of the removal of micro transactions. At £9.99 it is not the most expensive game and would be good for those of you who want to scratch that monster catching itch before the new Pokemon games come out.

Overall, Nexomon is just a good, solid monster-collecting RPG very reminiscent of many turn-of-century titles. It pays homage to the inception of the genre, though sometimes it clings a little too heavily to those roots. Players looking for a short romp that doesn’t overstay its welcome will want to pick up this title before tackling the sequel, which has many gameplay improvements that would be sorely missed when returning to the original.

NEXOMON A Great Hidden Gem Nexomon isa 15 hour long monster ctaching game where obviously you gotta set out and capture monsters to restore balance to the world.. I loved Nexomon Extinction so I had to check out the original, and I think I ihgt actually like the original the most.. Here you get a variety of starters to choose from and then youre off.. walk through grass to find more, battle other nexomon trainers, build up a party of 6.. you know how these things go.. and what I love so much about the original nexomon is that its so simple, you always know what you have to do, where to go because charcters will tell you, he go east, or north, or south of the map to go get the thing you need.. so all you really have to worry about ismaking sure your team is strong and balanced.. leveling them up for the area youre in, usually introducing a new nexomon type, all with a variety of rarities, and youll weaken them to be able to catch them.. and quite simply, I love it.. I love how straightforward it is.. cusing these 15 hours to fly by, I was surprised I played that long, and such a perfect length as well.. not too long overstaying its welcome… The owlrd of nexomon is not as magical as the world of pokemon, but this is still a greatly paced monster collector worth checking out.. I give Nexomon an 8/10

It's not so good as "Nexomon Extinction", but this fact is a proof that the team have made a lot of improvements since this first game. But it's a good Catch Monster RPG game, and doesn't cost much money, so, totally woth it.

Series like Nexomon have always had a bit of a Herculean task before them, trying to tap into the market that the Pokemon series helped build and define without being accused of simply being a clone. Last year’s Nexomon: Extinction I thought did a reasonably good job of walking that tightrope, having a style and tone of its own while obviously avoiding getting too far away from a successful formula. Having never played the original to check it out now, after already having seen Extinction, makes this original iteration harder to appreciate. While it obviously has different monsters and story beats (but only to a degree) this version makes it much harder to draw a clear dividing line between it and the series that inspired it. I have no doubt that people who played the original should appreciate a chance to revisit it, but for people who are more familiar with the more recent incarnations of any of the monster hunting series, who don’t have nostalgia for this original, it’s probably better to give it a pass. ****/2021/09/mini-reviews-september-23rd-edition.html
