It's so pervasively dull. Where other prominent throwbacks have recaptured the beating heart of the games that inspired them, Mighty No. 9’s familiar pieces are thrown together without a driving vision. Hopefully the super fighting robot’s next successor is more worthy.

Here’s an idea: let’s just try to forget this ever happened. [09/2016, p.60]

This is very much Inafune by numbers, a Mega Man game in all but name, and not a particularly good one. [Issue#296, p.118]

Does it ****? Yeah, it ****, alright. This game is nothing more than a crappy, poorly optimized, terrible-looking Mega Man. But while they copied a ton from Mega Man, they still ruined his **** you like this game, I feel bad for you. Trust me, if you like this game, go play more 2D platformers. I'm telling you this is one of the worst platformers I have ever played. It's not bland or boring; it's just **** illustrate this, let me name a bunch of the big-name 2D platformers that came out before Mighty No. 9 (It's also a really stupid **** 2014, we saw DK Tropical Freeze and Shovel Knight, 2015 gave us Ori and the Blind Forest and Downwell, and 2016 gave us Inside, Owlboy, and Unravel. Out of these games, Mighty No. 9 is nothing by comparison. But even compared to eh 2D platformers, Mighty No. 9 Stands alone as one of the most incompetent and poorly created games I've played up to this **** goes on sale often for 2.99, it's not even worth that.

.While not as bad as Some say, the game is seriously flawed, for staters special weapons are no useful in most escenarios, (except for the sword, it is overpowered) you will be using only the basic attack, then there is the level design, it is simplistic, predictable, mainly because stages were designed for the dash mechanic, which doesn't work too well, manly because Beck can't walljump and here are many insta-deaths in the stages
There are far better megaman spiritual succesors out there.
5
Overall a mixed bag that isn't as terrible as it may seem but also doesn't succeed in any outstanding ways and ultimately falls short of the hype built up by its Kickstarter campaign. Starting with the positives, Beck controls fairly responsively, his ledge grab is a welcome addition and most importantly his dash can feel incredibly exhilarating to use. Keeping a quick pace darting through levels while absorbing enemies with your dash and managing to stack up buffs can be rewarding and cathartic, but only when the level design allows it to be. Plenty of stages simply aren't properly designed around the dash, with it either breaking stages such as No 2.'s stage where the infinite dashes can skip entire underwater segments, or stages just being impossible to run through quickly such as No 7's where your own pace is reliant on the level's own pace of providing you new cars as platforms. Enemy design is often uninspired and forced gauntlets of enemies in stages, while brief, hurt the pacing of the game even more. Some special weapons are really useful while others only serve as boss fodder. In terms of presentation, the soundtrack is alright but mostly forgettable with some standout tunes, and graphics can be really bad, especially during story cutscenes which lack any mouth movements, and fall short of some of the really promising concept art released for this game. Ultimately I'd describe this game as just mediocre; if you were to compare this against other classic or X series Mega Man games, its far from the best but also still not the worst. But when you consider all the hype and money that went into this project and all it was built up to be, its hard not to feel underwhelmed with how this game feels ultimately just lukewarm.

Mighty No. 9 isn’t perfect, but it is something that anyone who grew up loving any kind of Mega Man game should check out.

Mighty No. 9 is the spiritual successor for Mega Man, but has its own identity. This is not always a good thing however. The game contains a few way-too-childish elements, but the gameplay should keep you satisfied for hours.

I'll be really honest. I love this game so damn much. I know it's really hated and stuff but I like it anyway, I had more good memories with this "chEAp cOPy" than I had with any Mega Man game by FAR. Sure it's got similar gameplay styles to MM, some bugs and had a horrible Kickstarter, but it's still extremely fun nonetheless, and at the end, that's what matters! God I wish they made a sequel or continued with the animated series..

You wanted Mega Man and got it. The only issue? YOU forgot that Mega Man can have, and is mostly made of, **** entries. This happened to be the case this time. ... Or so keep saying, most likely because it isn't what's familiar to them. However, I agree that the game did some things quite right! Dashing was fun, absorption was not. Some of the powers were useful instead of 1 or none throughout the game so don't believe the myth that only 3 were useful because there was so many more, weapon energy has recovery and isn't hard to lose to encourage actually using it. Enemies are decently varied and entertaining to go up against, spawning directly on top of MN9 was not. Ducking is automatic in hazardous areas, except one? A mixed bag, but absolutely leaning on positive!

If you Kickstarted this game, you’ll likely be fairly satisfied with how Mighty No. 9 turned out. However, it’s far from ground breaking in terms of its visual style, has some rather rage inducing sections of the level design, and the dash is imprecise. That said, the majority of the game is fairly fun to play and it certainly captures the spirit of Kenji Inafune’s Mega Man franchise, it just lacks a certain amount of polish.

It was certainly compelling enough for me to want to finish the game. There are also plenty of challenges to help hone platforming skills which ultimately do help in finishing the regular levels. As a game that is clearly supposed to appease Mega Man fans who will likely never get a new game in the series ever again, it falls spectacularly short of their expectations, particularly those that assisted in the crowdfunding campaign.

While fans will find something to love in its hardcore gameplay and old-school character design, non-fans should steer well clear.

If Keiji Inafune wants Mighty No. 9 to become as beloved as his blue-and-cyan predecessor, he and his team would do well to think deeply about modern updates to his classic formula to figure out what it is that makes them work so well. As is, Mighty No. 9 is a mighty, mighty failure.

Good Lord, so far I think this was my Tony Hawk of 2016 despite me being slightly more generous.

This is a spiritual successor to Mega Man, not a rip-off because it was made by the creator of Mega Man Keiji Inafune.

This game isn't so bad. The gameplay is solid and the music very cool .The problems essenciallyare 3: bad graphic (ps2), level design usually boring (with some exception) and a story that isn't so cool. You'll appreciate it if you came from old school gaming or your like megaman. The others should try it before buy.

Mighty No. 9 is a very fast paced spin-off of the Mega Man games. It's really fun and exciting when the assimilation mechanic becomes second nature. There are, of course, the frustrating aspects. The level design, hit-boxes, and final boss battle are all major contenders to being the worst I've experienced this year so far. The game is difficult not in challenge, but the design of the levels. The bosses and enemies' attacks do very little to telegraph their moves and give you a fair chance to react. Trial and error design can be rewarding, but Mighty No. 9's core game mechanics, stage checkpoints, and instant death segments hinder this experience, and in some cases make the game semi-unplayable. The music is fantastic and I love the ability to switch to 8-bit renditions of the soundtrack. The graphic design is really neat, even if most people tend to disagree - graphics don't make a game great, the game itself does. It's fun, but challenging. Veteran Mega Man players and hardcore action platformers won't see this as a huge problem, but for new players this game can and will be extremely frustrating. Play with moderately low expectations, and you'll have a lot of fun.

What breaks the heart is seeing just how unimaginative and mundane this game is.
SummaryMighty No. 9 is an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game that takes the best aspects of the 8- and 16-bit era classics you know and love, and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh. You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious co... Read More
