It acts fast but substitutes speed for intelligence and as much as it would like to be the new Titanfall, it doesn’t quite have the moves.
Throughout my time in Metal Eden, I couldn’t help but imagine just how good a sequel I hope Reikon makes could be. This is a great start in the FPS genre for the team; its ideas are strong, and with refinement, Aska’s next mission could be as excellent as the Ghostrunner and Doom Eternal adventures it’s clearly inspired by. Though the star of the show – its first-person shooting and movement – is sometimes weighed down by an overreaching narrative and boring morph ball sections, when Metal Eden shines, it’s as bright as the sun that sheds light on Moebius’ dark underbelly.
Metal Eden isn't shy about flaunting its inspiration from the Doom franchise. Its combat and style shine through in limited environments with no rewards for exploring them. Even so, if you're a fan of old-school FPS games, the title will satisfy you with all the frenzy and brutality, even without any innovations within the genre.

It’s a really fun AA first person shooter game .. gameplay is real fun .. story isn’t that good .. but enjoyable nonetheless. It’s linear .. doesn’t overstay its welcome.. took me 5-6 hours to beat it.

Metal Eden is a great AA boomer shooter clearly inspired by the likes of modern DOOM and Metroid Prime. The gameplay is fluid and the shooting of each weapon feels distinct and weighty. Weapon swapping is a treat as is the loop of melee/shoot/rip/boost while constantly moving. The soundtrack is top notch electronica (still waiting for the OST to actually release for purchase at time of typing). So why a 7? Because there are places where performance definitely takes a massive hit, especially in the later chapters, the story is borderline nonsensical, and the game is painfully short. On Normal difficulty, I was able to complete the game with all trophies (except the two difficulty ones) unlocked in approximately 6 hours -- and that was with spending about 20-25 minutes grinding the rest of the 40K zipline traversal trophy. Overall it's a fantastic game, just short of great, but had I paid full price for it rather than the recent sale price I might have felt somewhat ripped off.

It’s adept enough to transcend a modernized version of the “DOOM clone” label and rip and tear its own spot in the genre’s hierarchy.

Metal Eden is the most ambitious project from Polish developer Reikon Games, who previously created the small top-down isometric cyberpunk shooter Ruiner. They've done a pretty good job here, but there's definitely room for improvement on the technical side. However, if you can overlook the occasionally uneven graphics, Metal Eden is a good, solid sci-fi action experience.

Loot Level Chill
It's not particularly big or clever, but Metal Eden is a beautiful, bombastic blaster that entertains while it lasts.

Finger Guns
Metal Eden’s hyperkinetic and challenging gameplay that tested age-old strategies was appreciated, even if it’s science fiction city and story was too safe and generic to be memorable. It is not Metroid however much it might want to look like it on the shiny spherical surface.

Critical Hits
Metal Eden is a game that started off very strong but quickly wore me out. The repetition becomes excessive within the stages, with you going through practically the same encounter 15 to 25 times per level and having little to do between fights, which turns what seemed like a promising game at first into a rather tiresome experience.

Ultimately, Metal Eden is a close to a great game, but falls flat. It’s short, repetitive, and gets in its own way when it comes to a core combat loop.

Another gem from Reikon Games! Metal Eden impresses with fluid movement, top–notch gunplay, and a difficulty level that makes every fight a real challenge [completed the game on brutal]. Add to that stunning visuals, well–designed levels, and an outstanding soundtrack that nails the atmosphere. And the best part? The game runs buttery smooth – no FPS drops at all!
