I have played this so many times now from PC to PS4 and now Xbox One. I had collected every achievements/trophies for this game on three separate platforms and I love every minute of it. The story and dialogues is what keep this game a masterpiece and with this remaster it feels like it has every package to it. I first played it on PS4 way back 2018 then played it again on PC on 2020 then 4 years later I finished it with every achievement on Xbox One. This particular game should be played to any gamer atleast once on their life.
Whether you’re a long-time fan wanting to revel in the nostalgia, or somebody who missed it the first time round – pick up Grim Fandango and delight in this prime example of adventure games at their peak. Its got a lot of heart – and it deserves yours.
Like watching a classic old movie, Grim Fandango Remastered feels like a hearkening back to the golden days of gaming, when PC adventure games ruled and games didn’t have difficulty settings so easy that it seems like the game is playing itself. This is as much a history lesson as it is entertainment, lest we forget the roots of great gaming.
Grim Fandango was a fantastic adventure game 17 years ago, and it's still the same today. We just hoped the remaster to be up to it, and it's not totally the case.
Never has a game made me legitimately smile within the first 5 minutes... until I tried this game. (Thanks PS Plus) The characters, dialogue, and story are all well crafted in a way that you won't want this adventure to end. I didn't try the original, but this remaster is certainly great so that more people can experience this wonderful gem.
The Magnum Opus of 90s adventures games remastered and re-released for a new generation. Its expertly written with terrific art direction and amazing voice acting but its hampered by poor game design, dodgy controls and ambiguous, illogical puzzles. I enjoyed my second play through, my last was on PC when I was 17. It wasn't as nostalgic as I would have hoped and I found some parts just plain frustrating. Its a shame there isn't more appreciation for this game, but at the same time I can totally understand why it doesn't appeal to today's market. I'm grateful they are re-releasing these old games, however they need to check their price-point and ask themselves why they are doing it and whether the demand, existent or not, justifies the release. Its a good game, but its horribly dated and without a guide, forget it, you'll never finish it. A bit of fun to be had but be prepared to be frustrated and annoyed if you want to power through without a guide (Ps. some guides online are very, very poor)
I grew up enjoying innovative (for their time) funny, challenging adventure games like the Leisure Suit Larry series, for example. So I'm not a gamer who has no appreciation for older games like Grim Fandango. But after playing this snoozer for several hours I can honestly say I don't see what the fuss is about. The world is far from immersive, with only small clusters of explorable space available at any given time. The animation is okay I suppose but not really my cup of tea. Using skeletons as a model doesn't allow for much variety and it all becomes monotonous visually after a very short while. But my biggest BY FAR is the obtuseness of the puzzles. Some of them are so obscure as to be virtually impossible to figure out logically. But worst of all, there is really no sense of reward when you do. It's just more of the same each time without increasing the fun factor. This would be worthwhile if it was free but it worth paying for at any price in my opinion. Oh - and the remastered version is almost identical to the original - really no reason to buy it again if you bought the original.
Why was this game remastered? Why? Yes the story is good. But nothing that is worth a remastering of. Did not age well at all, remastered or not. Gameplay dry and boring (if you like TellTale games you might like this). No reason to buy this if you have never played the original. And one that missed the original just skip out on this. You will be saving your self a lot of time. This game just feels bad playing it, yes it's and older game from an older gen. But if your going to remaster something this old just do a remake of the game.
