Microsoft has done phenomenal work reviving and revitalizing the Age of Empires franchise and it is an absolutely blessed time for the strategy genre, especially if you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber who is looking for a new experience. Microsoft has done phenomenal work reviving and revitalizing the Age of Empires franchise. I can’t put the Xbox edition of Age of Empire IV down; I am truly absorbed by the new way to play.

Ultimately, I am completely satisfied with the Xbox implementation of Age of Empires 4. What already worked well in part two continues seamlessly here. The title is perfectly playable with the controller, and those who don't feel like 'sticking' it out can also use the mouse and keyboard.

The mission to bring Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition from PC to Xbox is a successful one. Age of Empires IV may not make history buffs out of the uninitiated, but it is a compelling enough entry for those who are interested in the genre or the subject matter.

I really want to like the game, but the game is just too empty compared to actual acclaimed strat games like Civilization and others. There is a severe lack of civilizations, this makes every non campaign game, which is realistically what you are playing, filled with the same civs. Especially in multiplayer as the "tier lists" make a striking difference of what is good and bad. But the worst problem of the game is just the over simplified base mechanics. This creates very repetitive and predictable gameplay. And you are pretty much doing that the whole game, and every single game. Unlike other strat map games where there is real randomness and strategy, causing much more replayability, the only difference here you get is the color of the **** thats it. Just a pure art quality, no gameplay **** game shows different ways for you to attack like splitting units and creating ambushes but at the end of the day 99% of players do not do that because with the real time strategy game the game is, and with way too much to handle at once, it is only efficient to basically go straight forward and not have elaborate traps. Even when you set those up they dont really make any real gameplay difference. The balancing between different unit types is also a mess. The more advanced units which should counter what they are suppossed to counter often end up losing and being weaker than their primitive versions which properly counter other units and do more damage...............I've never played the other Age of Empires games, so I dont know if its specialized to Aoe4, but they need to restart from the drawing board, and make a fix to their messy flawed game design, as the game is flawed fundamentally to its core. Though most of the strat games I play are turn based, I rather play other strat games, as they are much more better designed and have much much much more replayability. Replaying this game is literally rereading the same chapter of a book every single **** campagin missions also were pretty ****, and they were very time consuming. The cutscenes on the other hand were pretty cool but I couldnt finish the campaign due to having unfun campagin with lots of waiting time.

Great addition to AOE Games
PC performance is pretty good.
Graphics look's great.
It definitely feels like a AOE game.
It just needs more Content and Civs

It’s a perfect port.
I’ve played hours of multiplayer and I’m yet to run into any technical issues.
It very much feels like age of empires 2 to me, with improvements made. Which is exactly what I wanted.

With menus and controls specific to controllers, Age of Empires 4 on Xbox works beautifully and provides fun strategic gameplay for up to eight players. There are plenty of different ways to enjoy the game from historic solo campaigns to skirmishes against other players (or the computer), but it might be a little harder for newcomers to the Age series to learn how to play. Still, the quality-of-life improvements for Xbox all work together to create a fantastic RTS experience on console with different features than what's available on PC. Plus, you can play with keyboard and mouse on Xbox if you want.

It's hard to believe but Age of Empires 4 works perfectly on Xbox consoles. A great port with all the contents and features to one of the best RTS of recent years. [Recommended]

I’m always skeptical when it comes to RTS on the console. There have been attempts over the years, and while many were great on the PC, the controls on the console were meh at best. I’m glad to say that Age IV breaks the mold. The controls are super easy to use, doesn’t delay or feel sticky. It plays perfectly. The tutorial was great too. Thought I’d get bored, but instead a fun lesson in history while learning to play. Major props to the developers for nailing it.

Initially captivating, but the transition to console design compromises the experience. While efforts are made to adapt it for consoles, the RTS genre may not fully translate to this platform, leaving it somewhat in limbo.
