It’s incredibly tough to inject freshness into stories so frequently retold. But The Other Bennet Sister provides the ideal hit, combining all the comfort-watching pleasure of a beloved classic with the anticipation of following a previously little-known character on a brand new journey of self-discovery.

Victoria herself is not unlikeable, if a little stiff; she cracks jokes, she does a dance routine with daughter Harper. As with similar documentaries, though, there’s a painstakingly curated, glossy version of “authenticity” – the watered-down version of “warts and all” – that frustratingly never digs into anything too gnarly.

The concept is genuinely well executed, with characters who hold their own and enough well-timed twists to keep viewers hooked.

The show's purpose doesn't seem to be to demonstrate how one might pull off these ridiculous feats. Recipes are only half explained; specifics of paints and craft materials aren't actually shared. It's as if they already know that no one in their right mind is going to attempt this stuff.

The trouble is, beneath the series' slick exterior lies a slightly wonky storyline – one that ranges from the shrug-worthy to the downright jump-the-shark.

I’m only on episode two of BBC One’s gorgeous new high-production nature series, Parenthood, and already I’ve been radicalised. The five-part programme, combining the exquisite narration from Sir David Attenborough and sublime visual storytelling we’ve come to expect from this kind of affair.
