The Hardacres: Season 160
Aug 14, 2025
The Hardacres is too predictable, sanitised and silly to really stir the emotions. Yet its old-fashioned Catherine Cookson stylings feel counterintuitively fresh and fun, both for a costume drama and Channel 5’s schedules.

Passenger: Season 180
Aug 27, 2024
Yes, Passenger does stick the landing, while leaving scope for another flight. Buckle up.

Reacher: Season 280
Dec 13, 2023
While the investigative work is absorbing and the badinage lively enough, it boils down to the ultraviolence, which is relentlessly inventive and overblown. The final episode's set-pieces would slot smoothly into Commando or Raw Deal, and there can be no higher praise than that.

Grace: Season 280
Dec 13, 2023
With complex protagonists, hateful crooks and plausible stooges, Grace may not have been quite amazing, but has earned its coveted spot among ITV’s crime perennials.

Hard Cell: Season 140
Apr 7, 2022
It feels terribly dated, with endless toilet humour (vomit, clay dildos, fart gags and a deeply tiresome running joke about "number twos") and a mock-doc approach that could only be described as Gervaisian.

Sanditon: Season 260
Mar 22, 2022
This second run duly took a while to get going, but when it stopped apologising for what it was not – neither Austen redux nor a postmodern costumer – Sanditon found its voice and occasionally took wing.

Intelligence (2020): Season 240
Jun 8, 2021
Mohammed gave as good socially awkward geek as he always does, while Schwimmer mugged furiously and was game for anything, whether imitating the kissing of a haemorrhoid or miming a nuclear disaster. Other parts remained disappointingly underwritten and character consistency still wasn’t a priority here.
