Once again another disappointing game from Ubisoft, another title which simply does not live up to its hype (although I had a feeling this might be the case after experiencing the beta). Put simply the game is just repetitive. Every mission just consists of shooting waves of enemies, it's the same thing every time, kill a few weak enemies and then take out some bosses. There's no variety to the game, nothing which makes you want to play it more than 20 hours or so. Despite the large map it just feels dead, everywhere you go looks and feels the same, and NPCs are just the same copied and pasted people everywhere. It seems like there's so much area to explore, yet there's nothing to actually obtain from exploring. Unless you have friends to play the game with it's an incredibly lonesome experience, and even with friends after about 10 missions you'll be bored of shooting thugs in hoodies. Performance on PC also isn't great. Whilst I've had no technical issues so to speak the requirements to run the game are ridiculous. I'm using a GTX 980Ti and have to put everything on low/medium just to stay above 60fps, for those of you with 100+Hz monitors this game is practically impossible to run at that refresh rate without a crazy SLI setup. Overall the game is alright, just nothing worthy of the hype surrounding its release. I'd recommend only getting this game if it's on sale, or if you genuinely enjoy just shooting waves of enemies endlessly.

It's unfortunate that people give the game a 0/10 rating simply based on launch day impressions or a few minor bugs they've experienced, I feel the overall rating here is very prejudice. Overall Fallout 4 is like a reskin of the older games. Mechanics, user interface, mission styles, environment, they're all very familiar if you've played the previous titles. For some this might be a good thing but to me personally it shows a lack of innovation. Whilst I am enjoying the game it just doesn't feel 'next gen', I was hoping for more fluid animations, 2015 graphics, or at least a more friendly UI especially for us PC users. Fallout 4 is nothing more than a recycle with a new story. PC performance hasn't been too good either. I'm running the game on a GTX 980Ti and considering the underwhelming graphics (not that Fallout 4 is entirely about graphics anyway) the requirements are stupidly high. Indoors frame rate is fine, but once outdoors it drops, the fluctuation can be somewhat frustrating. There's also no ability to adjust graphics in-game, this is 2015 Bethesda... come on. It's very obvious this is a PC port too. Menus are awkward, the cursor lags, there's no field of view options (had to manually adjust it in .INI files), and there is a real lack of customisation for PC. There are also numerous bugs in the game. I often get stuck when accessing terminals and have to reload the game, dogmeat also seems all over the place whilst following you, such as getting stuck behind walls or just getting in the way in general. I can't say too much else as I'm still playing the game, but overall I'd say it's a good game but nothing worthy of game of the year, Witcher 3 was a million times better than this. Bethesda have really done little to make the game feel modern and it's unfortunate given the sheer hype this game has had.

It's almost a wonder why you're reading this review, because put simply, you must play this game if you have not already, the ratings speak for themselves. After 52 hours of gameplay I've just completed the main story as well as at least 15 side quests, and I'm absolutely blown away and even saddened that the main story came to an end. I personally had played the Witcher 1 and 2 so my view of the game may differ slightly to those who have not, for me there was a great deal of attachment to the characters having spent so many hours with them before, so this only increased my enjoyment of the game. To begin with, the world is simply gorgeous. Whilst everyone else cried out about downgrades prior to release I still felt the game would look amazing, and it really does. On PC I have to admit the requirements are a bit steep and to truly experience the world you do have to spend a bit of money on your PC, but it's well worth it in the end. For spoilers sake I won't say anything about the main story other than the fact that it was epic, and takes you to all corners of the world (which is incredibly enormous). The balance of quests is perfect, and your experience with each main character is a pleasure. There's humor, darkness, surprise, and even sad moments in the game, it has it all. In terms of the combat system I felt it's definitely the most polished to date in the series, which would make sense considering it's a new game. Witcher 2 had combat which in my eyes was too easy at times and you could spam the attack key endlessly to kill enemies. Witcher 3 has a really good balance with enemies. You can't just spam the attack key without eventually being knocked back, and blocked hits result in loss of durability, so you're forced to take strikes carefully. The leveling system also works extremely well and gives you a chance to shape the way you play as Geralt. Want to use potions a lot? Invest in alchemy. Want to be a sword master? Invest in sword skills, etc. I also felt a great sense of pride when killing boss enemies, especially through Witcher contracts. Bosses are challenging and often quite scary to confront. You spend time hunting them and it's good fun to prepare yourself for such a fight, and of course the rewards are awesome. For me the one aspect of the game which amazed me most was the attention to detail. The game was just so polished, beyond anything I've ever played. An example would be a dungeon I entered mid way through the game where I killed a few bandits. I had to return there later in the game and found the very same bandit bodies on the floor, in the same positions, and with rotting flesh. It's a small thing, but it just makes you appreciate the impact you have in the world and how non-linear it is. The side quests are just as amazing too. For the first time in a game I feel like the side quests are just as good (if not sometimes better) than main quests. Thanks to the great voice acting you can become attached even to measly peasants asking for help, and every side quest has an interesting and unique little story to uncover with worthy rewards. I hate to blab on too much else you'll get bored. All I can say is, play the game. Just do it. It's a wonderful achievement in modern RPG games and it'd take one heck **** to reach the same scale as this one.

Battlefield Hardline

May 11, 2015
I've decided to write a second review of the game after owning it for a couple of months now, namely touching on the multiplayer aspects and how I've been getting on with the game thus far. Unfortunately after about three weeks of playing I've grown extremely bored of the game and don't feel there's much else it can offer except mediocre DLC's in the future, which of course will only cost more money and likely become just as boring as the vanilla maps. With Hardline I just cannot find a particular game mode I love. Unlike Battlefield 4 where I would play rush hour after hour, experiencing a different battle each time and having good fun, Hardline is extremely linear and combat is on such a small scale that it's repetitive every game. Gameplay feels unbalanced and I've yet to use many guns other than the M416 and M16A3, simply because they're overpowered and the majority of other players use them. Killing enemies has become too quick of a process giving you no chance to retaliate when fired at first, and destruction without the access to military vehicles is minimal and underwhelming. My biggest disappointment is simply the lack of decent game modes, other than maybe conquest, being a classic favourite for many Battlefield fans. Rushing to grab cash 24/7 is tedious, whereas destroying an entire enemy base in Battlefield 4 was an objective far more appealing and more reliant on a team effort. It really does feel like I'm playing a crossover of Call of Duty and Battlefield mechanics, and you can tell Dice are trying to enter the whole 'esports' game with the new game modes like rescue and crosshair which follow in Counter Strike's footsteps. Put simply, this to me is not Battlefield. Battlefield needs tanks, jets, huge maps, classic game modes, balanced classes, and of course large scale team work. Battlefield Hardline is a major disappointment for me and as I write this I am reinstalling Battlefield 4. Unless you enjoy small scale combat this is not the game for you, stick with Battlefield 4 until they release the next true Battlefield game.

+ Graphics are some of the best of any MMO, even with it being almost 3 years old now. + Combat and mechanics are very friendly towards new players and not overly complex (a personal preference) + There is a lot of diversity in the world, exploring new locations is a genuine pleasure. + World events are a huge amount of fun. Teaming up with 50+ other players to battle a boss is extremely satisfying, and worth the rewards. + WvW is a lot of fun and works very well, once you get the hang of it you can waste away many hours fighting other servers. I have not played PvP yet so I cannot comment for this right now. + The user interface is very intuitive and easy to navigate, much like the combat it's not overly complex, which is something I prefer over MMO's that have so many items on screen you feel lost. - The optimisation isn't very good. With SLI I get 40% usage for each GPU. When entering city zones and large events with lots of players the frame rate drops massively. Even with a top of the range PC like mine I get 30fps in world events and areas of WvW. The game is extremely CPU intensive. However, in 'calmer' areas of the world you can easily get 60+fps the majority of the time. - The main story quests can seem a little bit childish. They're not particularly geared towards adults and seem a bit silly and pathetic at times, but this is only a minor complaint. - Whilst I like the easy to learn combat, it can result in the game becoming a little too easy as you progress into the later stages of the game. Rarely have I really felt challenged in PvE.

After seeing the game with such a high user review I went into the game with high expectations. Unfortunately however I felt Mass Effect 1 was more enjoyable and this was more of a 'I just want to cut to the chase and see the ending' type game. The first 7 hours or so were quite tedious as you go around finding new crew members and then carrying out their tasks. It wasn't until the last few missions that I felt the game started to shine as the tasks became evermore difficult, action packed, and full of decisions that actually made you take a moment to think. Overall the game wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything incredible. I look forward to playing Mass Effect 3 next though.

I'm very surprised to see this game with as little as ~6/10 user rating. After 28 hours of an enjoyable and epic quest I have just completed the main story for DA:I and can easily say it's one of the best RPG's I've played. Unfortunately this was my first Dragon Age game so I can't compare it to the predecessors, but in itself it was very polished and kept me captivated for the entirety of its length. The story has you venture a huge world and there are plenty of different regions to explore with all sorts of climates. Unlike other RPG's I felt the side quests were also interesting and not too dull, usually side quests are more of a chore than anything. Voice acting was fantastic, you grew attached to characters, and the freedom of choice during conversations gives you a sense of power. My biggest gripe with the game was probably the requirement to grind. A few times in the game I was below the recommended level requirement to continue the main story, so I'd have to spend a couple of hours just doing side quests to level up adequately. This seemed to slow things down a bit and I'm not a fan when games do this. PC performance was also a little bit of an issue. I run two GTX 970's so I was good to go, but the FPS on single GPU's isn't ideal, and of course many people run a single GPU. Having said this, the engine was solid. I had absolutely no screen tearing issues, graphical bugs, just nothing. The world looked beautiful at all times and I give a thumbs up to the overall graphics.

The game is okay, but fairly boring and didn't really expand too much on the series' storyline. I play Assassin's Creed mainly for the interesting concept of 'the ones who came before', or the pre-human God people as others might put it. This game lacks any interesting content in regards to this, and so it's literally just an entire game of combat and no innovation to the unique story previous games carried. Combat was satisfying but nothing new. Last year we were introduced to naval combat and an entirely new atmosphere which was a delight. This year however I feel they've taken a step backwards, nothing in the game makes you say "wow". Of course you've probably seen all the commotion with the game's performance. Firstly, bear in mind that all the other reviews giving it 0/10 are completely prejudice and these people did not give the game time before stating their rating/opinion. Yes, the game was poor on day 1. However, a few days later after two patches I haven't really had any problems. Admittedly I have two GTX 970's, but still, I'm getting around 20fps more than I was on day 1 and haven't had nearly as many problems. The game is definitely playable. The one great thing about this game was the NPC atmosphere. Everywhere you go there are just hundreds of people everywhere, it really brings Paris to life. On the other hand this is probably what causes so much game lag, so it'd be nice to have options to reduce crowd numbers.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

The game is neither amazing or poor, it's somewhere in between. The good news is that Advanced Warfare is far better on PC than Ghosts ever was and at least it's playable this time. The main story is interesting but nowhere near as good as campaigns from the likes of Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 in my opinion. You'll enjoy singleplayer, but you won't be itching to replay it over and over again in the future. PC performance is okay. There's been a lot of issues with mouse sensitivity problems and frame stutter, each of which have their solutions but can't be entirely eliminated. Hopefully this will be patched soon, the game is only 2 days old as of this review. Unfortunately with a GTX 780 I'm forced to play on low settings with shadows turned off just to sustain the 91fps cap in multiplayer (something which is also very annoying for people with high Hz monitors like me), also bear in mind I'm running in 1440p. Multiplayer itself is... well, it's Titanfall. It is so blatantly obvious they've copied Titanfall's approach, which doesn't necessarily bother me too much as it's still enjoyable, but does show a lack of innovation. Multiplayer is satisfying but nothing new. It's still Call of Duty and feels like any other game in the franchise, just with more verticality due to the Exo suits. One big problem I have though is the pace of games. On console the controllers restrict turning movement and is much slower, making games more controlled and less chaotic. On PC people are running around like mad men with their mice sensitivities allowing for much faster reactions compared to console. I find the games are overwhelmingly fast and you don't have much time to think. It's literally an iteration of spawn > 1 kill > die > spawn > 1 kill > die... etc.

Alien: Isolation

User ScorexTobyMc
Oct 22, 2014
For me this game was a 50/50, there was a lot I liked about the game, but also a lot I disliked. Firstly, the atmosphere is amazing. Playing on PC in max settings, which the game is very well optimised for, the feeling of isolation really is apparent. Quite a few times I jumped like a little girl when the alien found me and there are plenty of jump-scares throughout. I also like the fluidity of animation and the real emphasis on stealth and movement tactics. I often found myself pausing to think about my next move and the game does a nice job of guiding you, but not making it too linear. Lastly, the game also follows the story very well and those who have seen the films will feel the nostalgia. In terms of the game's negatives, for me the biggest one was story length. The game took me 17 hours to complete and felt (surprisingly) too long. I feel like the developers have tried too hard to extend the game length by adding in more and more and more and more inconveniences forcing you to do missions which seems pointless. For example, you'd be told to open a door, only to find the door has no power. The game will then send you back the entire route you've just travelled to activate the power. Upon returning to the door, you require a keycard or pin code... everything in the game was like this. It was just fetch mission after fetch mission, and something would ironically always go wrong the moment you got close to completing an objective. The alien also gets extremely annoying. At first I was scared of it, but after 7 hours or so I was just fed up of it. I was constantly having to stop and just wait for the alien to walk around the scripted route it was given before it went back into the vents, making it safe to move. I also find it silly how the alien follows you EVERYWHERE, despite going up and down elevators, across rail networks and keeping almost silent compared to other noises on the ship. Of course I understand the point of the game is to hide from it, but the realism of it just following YOU everywhere is frustrating. Overall the game is worth the buy if you've got 15-20 hours spare, but personally I think the game is far too stretched, it would have been ideal to me as a ~12 hour game instead.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

User ScorexTobyMc
Oct 3, 2014
This is definitely one of the best games of 2014, and I can safely say the entire experience was enjoyable. As a big Lord of the Rings fan, Shadow of Mordor really hit the nail on the head in terms of storyline, atmosphere and combat. Combat was extremely satisfying in this game, and the consistent executions of enemies alongside their death animations really made me want to just keep killing everything, it never got old. The nemesis system also works great, with enemies feeling like they have greater personality as they attempt to move up through their rankings, as well as their own unique (and sometimes funny) personalities. My one gripe with combat and gameplay in general would be the controls on PC. As an example, using the button LCtrl was a major part of the game, and it did take a while to get fully accustomed to its awkwardness. The combat also seemed a bit too easy at times, especially near the end of the game. The story was very well adapted to suit the 'Lord of the Rings' type feel. Admittedly when watching trailers for this game I felt it looked nothing like Lord of the Rings, but after completing the game I can definitely assure you it links very well. The in-game music also sounds like the same composer from the films, you won't be disappointed. PC performance is top notch too. Using a single GTX 780 I was getting 70-80fps in 1440p, using high settings. I did also try out the optional texture pack with the recommendation of 6GB of VRAM, and despite having a 3GB GPU, I still got 60fps, although with a few frame spikes. My last annoyance with the game on PC would also be the field of view. There is no option to change it, and at the time of writing this review there is no manual way of changing it. The default FoV is horrible, but I managed to get somewhat used to it after a few hours.

Really surprised with this game, I downloaded it for free on Steam out of sheer boredom and it's turned out to be one of, if not the best modern MMO I've played. The game runs smoothly, the map is enormous, gun combat works really well and jet packing around the map is super fun. I've been doing various quests with a friend of mine and been having a pretty good time. The in-game support from players is also amazing. If ever I have a noob question to ask, I just type it in the chat box and receive immediate replies. Only downside of the game is the micro transactions. As expected with a free-to-play game, there's a heavy emphasis on buying additional items for your character using their beans credits. It is kind of annoying as nearly every screen I go on has some option to 'buy this with beans'. However, it's still perfectly playable without having to pay a penny!

User ScorexTobyMc
Sep 26, 2014
FIFA 15 is definitely an upgrade to FIFA 14 for PC users, with the developers finally giving us the Ignite engine, something we should have received when FIFA 14 was out. With the Ignite engine's new physics and animations, the game definitely feels a lot more realistic in terms of the players looking like real people and showing emotion, as well as the expanded techniques for shooting, making saves, etc. However, despite the new engine, the game doesn't feel hugely different, as you'd expect with this type of game that's simply recycled annually. There are still so many bugs in-game too, and considering the game doesn't expand beyond the stadium, I'd expect them to iron out all glitches and bugs by now. If MMO's can be bug free on release, surely this game should. I've already experienced moments where the ref is giving my player a yellow card, and the screen just gets stuck looking at the ref, I had to wait about a minute for it to return to the game. PC performance is also poor. When the game runs normally, I get well over 100fps on max settings and everything is fine. However, for some stupid reason, when going into replay animations or taking a goal kick, the FPS drops to 30, it's extremely annoying (I have turned off Vsync for those that may wonder). I also cannot Alt+TAB out of the game, because when returning to FIFA, it enters windowed mode with a letterbox view which is unchangeable unless I restart the game. Players still act like idiots as well. Goalkeepers still make saves and take about 5 seconds to stand up again, meanwhile the opponent has tapped in a rebound shot. Players go flying to the floor (due to the physics engine) from the smallest of contact. Players go to control the ball and somehow it deflects off their shin about 6 metres ahead of them, despite the pass being extremely low powered. etc, etc, etc, the list goes on. Oh, and Ultimate Team FIFA points are far too expensive as always.

An absolutely captivating game, and the first game to ever make me shed a tear (yes, I'm a man). I've always been somebody who respects a good storyline above anything else and this game just hits the nail on the head. Whilst the gameplay and graphics might not be anything special, the use of character scripts and attention to personalities is really what makes the game incredible. Not only that, but the soundtrack is one of the best I've experienced in a game (considering this is an Indie game I was blown away). There are many twists and turns in the story, and the developers have clearly written it very well. It's both entertaining and very emotional, and emotion is something few games can provoke nowadays in my opinion. You won't be experiencing revolutionary gameplay with this game, but you sure as hell are in for an emotional roller coaster. This game deserves far more fame.

The game is okay, but the poor optimisation has ruined it for so many people. Running a GTX 780 the game barely keeps a stable frame rate on the lowest settings. There's also frame stutter at all times when driving and the game keeps crashing. In fact, I'm about 10 hours into the game and I can't continue the main storyline because it crashes every time. I'm thoroughly disappointed with Watch Dogs as it was looking to be one of the best games of the year. The game isn't even that exciting either. The story gets fairly boring, enemies are extremely weak, whilst the police are ridiculously hard to get away from. The whole idea of hacking everything around you isn't that much fun either. I'll be honest, I'm not even that annoyed that the game crashes so much that I can't play it any more. I'd probably stop playing it anyway, it doesn't excite me at all. I look forward to GTA V coming to PC, it will be much better than this for the genre.

A great first-person shooter with which brings back the classic style of gameplay - running around, spraying the hell out of **** and collecting ammo, health and armour along the way. The thing I like so much about Wolfenstein is that they don't overcomplicate things. I see so many FPS's these days with complex upgrade/levelling systems which are just not necessary. Wolfenstein is simplistic, yet a lot of fun. The story was captivating, but not something that had me clinging to my keyboard and mouse desperate to see what happens next. The use of cut scenes and attention to detail when it came to Blazkowicz's personal life did create an emotional side to the game, and added some level of realism. Overall I am satisfied with the story, but I have seen better. My biggest gripe with the game was the AI enemies and the difficulty. AI seemed to act really stupidly in the game, and often I found exploits which made levels extremely easy. For example, at one point I was sat in a small pipe and the enemies were just bundling up in front of the pipe entrance, unable to crouch down and enter the pipe, whilst I just shot their legs and cleared an entire room without being shot at once. I was also playing on the second to hardest difficulty, and I died around 5 times throughout the entire game, which is too few in my opinion. For a game which defines the FPS genre, I felt the AI were fairly poor. Furthermore, optimisation for the game wasn't great. With a GTX 780 I should be getting at least 100fps with a game like this, considering the visuals and lighting weren't exactly Metro: Last Light standard. The game, despite vsync being turned off, was locked at 60fps, meanwhile I use a 110Hz monitor (overclocked) and could not go above 60fps. The depth of field was also extremely annoying, although you can turn it off manually in the game's notepad settings.

The game is great, but I just feel the price to play the game and repetition of gameplay isn't worth my time anymore. I've been playing the game since beta and from initial release, but exactly one month later I'm quite frankly bored of the game. The look and feel of Elder Scrolls is definitely there, but it lacks the interesting NPC's and everything feels too non-interactive and unrealistic. For example, characters show no facial expression and the quests they give you aren't interesting at all. It quite literally consists of speaking to someone, walking somewhere, collecting some stuff, killing a few people, then going back to the person you talked to. This is all the PvE seems to offer, over and over again. Personally I'm not a WvW or PvP fan either, so that doesn't interest me anyway. I'm also a solo gamer, and this game is definitely tedious if you don't have friends to play it with. I'm not going to slate the game and give it 1/10 just because I don't get along with it, because I know that many people will enjoy this game and I'm sure in a few years it'll be a very solid game. However, I would rather not be paying the subscription fee for what it's worth. If it was like Guild Wars 2 without subscription fees, I'd definitely reconsider playing it. I think I'll probably leave the game for a good few months and perhaps see how it progresses over time, perhaps they'll reduce/eliminate fees or make vast changes to the game.

Things I like about the game: Graphically on PC the game looks and feels great. I run my games at 2560x1440 resolution and I was slightly worried frame rate might be an issue in a game like this, however, the game was very well optimised and had good FPS throughout. The soundtracks and typical Tomb Raider theme was very noticeable and it's good to see that they haven't lost the classic gameplay that previous Tomb Raider games had. I also enjoyed the choice of weaponry (especially the bow) and overall the storyline was pretty good. Things I dislike about the game: Firstly, the AI are completely stupid. Throughout the game you are completely bombarded by waves of enemies which come in groups of around 7-15 people at a time. The fact that Lara Croft doesn't get killed by the obviously overwhelming number of enemies is beyond me. All the AI seem to do is run at you, whilst a few archers sit back and pop in and out of cover. Enemies are predictable and far too easy to kill. I would have preferred less enemies with harder difficulties. It also seems stupid how enemies without armour require multiple bullets to die, the damage settings in this game seem completely wrong. The next thing I dislike is the voice acting. Lara Croft sounded somewhat awkward throughout the game. I'm British myself and so I understand the British accent very well. There was something about Lara that was almost cheesy in a way. For example, she would often talk to herself to give you clues as to what to do next, something nobody would do. In addition, she seems a bit too confident when in combat. Shouting things like "You won't get me this time!" sounds really corny and any human alive (after what she's been through) would be exhausted and probably a lot more afraid of countless enemies with fire grenades and guns/bows running at you. I also found the game in general to be extremely repetitive. I was rushing through the story avoiding hidden loots and in-game secrets just so I could get the game done and dusted. After a few hours I was bored of the linear temples and climbing obstacles, it just seemed that every time Lara got near an exit, the exit would stupidly explode or something meaning you have to take an alternative route which is another 10 minutes of puzzles and rope climbing... The game was fun at times, but unfortunately not my cup of tea.

After purchasing Metro: 2033 almost a year ago and never actually completing the game due to its poor optimisation and constant frame rate problems, I was sceptical about buying Last Light. However, I can safely say after completing the game just minutes ago, Metro: Last Light is well worth your money and one of the best titles I've played this year. I'll start off by saying that this game is probably at the peak of any list for 'most atmospheric' games, and I genuinely felt like I was in the Metro tunnels myself when playing it. With the gorgeous textures, lighting, animation and sound effects, it feels like a horror movie at times, you cannot beat the theme of this game. Although I was forced to play with PhysX off, 'normal' textures and low anti aliasing (even using a GTX 780), the game was still amazing in terms of visuals. Compared to Metro: 2033, the optimisation seems much improved, although there were times I had major frame rate drops and I did have to follow some YouTube tutorials to fix things like field of view and switch the game to DX9 for better performance. Inside tunnels and 'smaller' areas I was getting around 60-100fps, but outside in the stormy weather conditions it could drop to around 30-40fps, still playable however. In terms of the storyline, this was also surprisingly captivating and beat my expectations. The game does follow directly from Metro: 2033, so it's worth either playing that game or at least reading up/watching gameplay for what happened at the end of it. I won't spoil anything, but I can at least say the game captured me emotionally and I ended up playing Metro: Last Light through the night, that's how eager I was to find out what happens with the story. There are many storylines for FPS games that are often repetitive and tedious, but this game with its creepy atmosphere and incredible immersiveness will not leave you bored. The game also offers multiple ways to approach each mission, whether you go in all guns blazing or use stealth. I'd highly recommend taking the stealth route though, you'll save on ammo. As far as negatives go, there are a few issues with the game. As I mentioned earlier, the game does cause frame rate drops and will definitely eat up your GPU if you're playing on PC. I own a GTX 780 myself which is a very expensive GPU, and even I struggled at times to run this, so I feel sorry for anyone using a lower end GPU. The game also felt at times like it was too easy. I played the game on 'normal' difficulty so I wasn't expecting it to be impossible. However, at times I was standing right in front of an AI enemy and apparently I was completely hidden from sight. There was also an abundance of ammo laying around as well as gas mask filters... not once did I run out of equipment or ammo. Last of all, I would have also liked to see some additional settings in the options menu. For such a highly graphical game on PC, it stupidly lacks things like a FOV slider, or a button to turn off motion blur... in general the settings lacked so much depth. Overall the game is a definite buy if you're an FPS fan or just want something to immerse yourself in for around 10 hours. I definitely look forward to another game in this series, hopefully with better optimisation next time!

Pros: The game is fast paced and very solid with the source engine it's using, latency doesn't appear to be an issue at all in this game. Visually it looks very nice on PC too, and optimisation means that many people will be able to max out the graphical settings and still get a good FPS reading. The use of Titans is also very fun and I definitely look forward to jumping into my big robotic suit and shooting the hell out of everyone and everything. Cons: The game is just so damn repetitive. After about 5 games you've pretty much experienced the entirety of the game, and with no singleplayer there's nothing else to do aside from multiplayer. I've had the game for little over a day now and I'm already bored of it if I'm completely honest. The final game feels nothing new compared to the beta and it really is becoming tedious to play. The only reason I'm writing this review was because I just left the game out of sheer boredom and felt like writing a review instead of playing a brand new game I just spent £30 on, that's how 'exciting' this release is to me. There is also a complete lack of weapons and game modes in Titanfall. If Call of Duty ever had any success, it was down to it having so many game modes to choose from and a rich variety of weapons to unlock. Titanfall has something like 5 game modes and barely enough weapons to keep the game fresh and make you look forward to unlocking stuff. An okay game to buy/play if it's on sale for £10 in the future, but don't waste your time paying full price for a game you'll enjoy for maybe a week before never touching again. I'm also a big FPS player, and this is very disappointing for me.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Once again Ubisoft have produced an outstanding game, one which I thoroughly enjoyed and can easily put on my top games list for 2013. I myself am a huge fan of the Assassin's Creed series, not necessarily for its combat and action packed world, but for the unique and mysterious storyline regarding Desmond Miles and the 'people who came before'. Throughout every Assassin's Creed game I find myself really wanting to know about the history of the first civilisation within the game, it truly is the one set of games I am completely fixated on. Assassin's Creed Black Flag was a nice addition to the series with its enormous and interactive world, with huge emphasis on being a pirate and sailing the seas with your new ship, the Jackdaw. As a personal note, I was not overly impressed with the naval combat, and neither was I in previous games. I found the naval side of this game to be slightly too much for my liking. For example, there's a few missions where you HAVE to upgrade your ship in order to proceed with the mission which includes taking down ships. I was forced to spend a few hours just roaming the seas outside of the main storyline just so I could find resources and attack other ships in order to upgrade my own and proceed with the main storyline. Upgrading your ship is a hassling and tedious process, one which I hope they don't include in future games. Aside from this problem though, the rest of the game was fantastic. I recently got a new GTX 780 graphics card, meaning I was able to max the settings out for this game on PC, and it truly does look phenomenal. I also found the game to be very long, which is a good thing. With previous AC games I have completed the main story within 2-3 days (yes, I like to play them pretty solidly!), but with this game, it took me around 4-5 days, mainly due to having to upgrade my ship all the time. As far as combat goes, there's no real change. The weapon system is still very much the same and there aren't any 'mind-blowing' additions. If you've played AC before, you'll fit right into the game without any issues. One thing I wish they'd do is bring more unique weaponry to the game, like they did in Assassin's Creed 2 (my favourite AC game). One thing I also loved about this game was the personality connection you gained with other characters. Black Flag really shows off a personal side to Edward (your character), and you develop strong relationships with other people throughout the game. This is by far the best way to captivate a gamer into a game, and with the great voice acting and facial animation, I felt very much like I was in the story myself. Overall I loved it, despite the few issues it has. QUICK NOTE: There is a small sequence after the credits, so don't quit the game before the credits end!

One of the best games I've played this year, aside from BioShock Infinite. The PC remaster of this game really plays out well, and with the graphical settings on ultra, this game looks and feels phenomenal. The entire atmosphere works perfectly, and you really do cling on to your torch hastily when roaming the dark forests alone. In addition, the storyline was amazing, with such complexity and curiosity which left me wanting to continue with the game. However, despite the greatness of the game I can only give it a 9/10. I found at times the amount of enemies was overwhelming and it felt a bit repetitive after 6+ hours of simply walking through the dark shooting enemies constantly. I also felt like the AI (whenever you had somebody accompanying you) were awful at shooting enemies. Despite having partners helping you, the enemies ONLY attack you, and your partners actually kill perhaps 1/10 enemies. Overall an amazing game and well worth the play-through! I also picked it up for £2.70 with 90% off on Steam this weekend which was a bargain!

Wow. I finished playing this game last night and I am completely perplexed with the ending and how great the game was. I am somebody who has never played the past Bioshock games, and after seeing so many people hyped for this game, I thought I might as well give it a go. Playing the game of PC if you can is by far the best choice. This is one of the best visual games I have seen in a long time since Battlefield 3, and the textures and lighting effects on Ultra settings are beyond incredible. The whole setting of the game is magnificent, and I have yet to play any other game based in the beauty of the sky. The story itself was the best part (quite obviously) and the characters are gripping throughout. Elizabeth (the girl you are retrieving throughout the entire game) becomes someone you actually care about and want to help, and not just a dull AI character like many other games present. The combat system is great too, very comparable to Dishonored which I played a few days previously, and very easy to pick up for any noob. By far the best aspect of the game is the storyline towards the end. Obviously I won't give away any spoilers, but just be warned that you will go through some major plot twists and the ending with leave you speechless. I actually had to read up on the internet afterwards just to fully understand what I had just seen! The only negative aspect of the game is the length of the middle section of the story. This was also mentioned in IGN's review too, where the middle section of the game is very 'stretched' and seems to take way too long to complete. It's only towards the end where truth is revealed that the game gets really exhilarating. Lastly, the frame rate was also an issue with this game. 80% of the time I had perfect 60+ fps, but in a lot of locations for some reason the frame rate fell to 30, despite the area of the map being a small room which doesn't require a whole lot of processing. Many people also experienced this, and I believe they are working on a patch for it very soon. Overall a must-play game. If you are reading this and haven't played it... PLEASE just buy it, you will not regret it at all.

This is by far one of the best titles I have played this year, although it did have its downsides which is why I give it a 7/10. Dishonored serves as something 'different' for once, and its gameplay type can only really be compared with games such as Bioshock, but even that series is very different. It was nice to play a game where the storyline wasn't typical, and with the magical powers aspect of the game, it made it feel like your character, Corvo, was special compared to those around him. I found much of the game, despite its cartoon style similar to Borderlands, very eery and creepy too. The sound effects often scared the hell out of me and made me quickly check over my shoulder, and the constant solo experience makes you play the game with full attention at all times. Lastly, the ending was very nice, and I particularly liked the style of it (although I won't go into any detail for obvious spoiler reasons). Now for the negatives... The game was very linear. Although it had many collectibles such as runes, bone charms, ammo and paintings, it was a very small world. I often found that searching for collectibles was too easy with the beating heart utility you're given which tells you where all runes and bone charms are. It was also very obvious which paths you were supposed to take to reach your destination, and although you were given a choice between going through sewers, fighting off each enemy or using the rooftops, the level of choice didn't seem overly great. Dishonored was also a very short game considering the price I paid for it. There's no real replay-ability with this game, and without multiplayer too. I felt like the game should have been £15 instead of £25+ at the time for what it's worth. One thing to note however is that I rushed this game, not collecting all the items that I could of, and pretty much just running into combat rather than stealth every time. The last negative was the auto-save feature. I have read online about this and many people agree. The auto-save wasn't the best, and you often found that when you reloaded a checkpoint after dying your were put back to a spot you were on about 10 minutes ago, and it took ages for you to get back to where you actually died. You have to manually save your game after every situation you go through in order to avoid this. Overall a great game, just needs a lot of tweaking if they make a sequel.
