Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order10
Aug 22, 2025
A thoroughly enjoyable single-player experience, Fallen Order builds upon the original Star Wars trilogy. The story is interesting enough to keep you going, the combat is varied, responsive and most importantly, fun experience. It is great that the creators added so many difficulty levels, allowing players to engage with the game at a challenge level that fits them

Until gamers learn that the only way to punish publishers for forcing them to create accounts just to play their games is to not buy the games, they will continue with this horrible practice. (And then eventually get hacked and leak all your data, obviously.) I bought the game, saw I needed an account, deleted it, got my money back from Sony. F*** you, Ubisoft, forever.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 332

I firmly believe that "quicktime events" are lazy game design. They are very easy to implement and introduce a sort of difficulty to the game that is very easy to fine tune. (You can make the event window as narrow as you like, it's really just a number you put into your game code.) Masochists and quick-fingered players will praise the game for the challenge. I'm neither, and I only bought the game because I read that you can disable QTE in the accessibility menu. If you are like me, DO NOT FALL FOR THIS. The menu will only disable QTE on your attacks, but not when evading or blocking enemies. The fake difficulty is still there in full effect, and it ruins an otherwise beautiful game for us non-hardcores.

The game requires a "Bethesda account" even if you only ever want to play single player. I already have a playstation account, thank you very much. I will never register with your shady business.

Enter the Gungeon10
Oct 10, 2019
Enter the Gungeon is one of those highly polished roguelikes that present you with a different gameplay each time. Thanks to a wide diversity of guns and items and the way these various elements can interact, each playthrough feels fresh and no two runs are alike. The game is difficult but not impossible to master, and rewards its players with plenty of humor, hidden references, secrets and a gorgeous visual style. Highly recommended!

This is not really a "review", more like a warning label. Please regard it as such. For anyone downloading this game and expecting to play: don't. I did, and was rewarded by having to sit on a carriage for 14 minutes listening to an infodump-style exposition with name after name after name. I was unable to move. Then I was treated to watching an execution. Then I was told to climb some stairs and found that my character could not do that. I'm sure there are those who say that this was a rewarding experience, or that I should wait to earn actually playing. Good for you. For those who are like me and want a game that one can actually play from the start: forget Skyrim. Score ZERO.

VVVVVV8
Sep 25, 2013
VVVVVV brings Commodore 64 "aesthetics", audio and gameplay to the PC, minus the frustration of always starting over from level 1. It is a simple game with good level design and some fresh new mechanics. I rather enjoyed the humor that comes from the little bits of character dialogs and journal entries (like the one complaining about the "insane security measures").

FTL: Faster Than Light3

It is my fault, really, for picking up this game. I guess the "running the spaceship" and "saving the galaxy" part got me confused. Or perhaps the "strategy" and "simulation" categories made me think that the actual gameplay would involve either of these. I must admit, that I missed the "rogue-like" part mentioned in passing on the steam store page. (BTW "saving the galaxy" part is the galaxy is never in peril throughout the game. It's there in all its randomness, and it's feeling just fine.) So please, if you do not have a deep love for the rogue-like genre, do NOT pick up this game. Being at the mercy of the random-number god for scraps (literally) will not be fun for you as it was not fun for me. The game goes out of its way to make running your starship feel static and lifeless. The scenery never changes: there's your ship on the left, there's a smaller enemy ship on the right. You wait for some bars to fill, and occasionally pause to ponder where to shoot next. The interface follows the "hover over icon if you want to understand this" principle. (Except when it doesn't, in case you want to know the systems or weapons of an enemy ship, you have to look for a similar icon on *your* ship. In case of weapons, just forget it.) The soundtrack starts feeling repetitive about 10 minutes in and is basically the same two tunes over and over. Ugh. Gameplay 2/10 (ymmv, more if you enjoy a Random Events Plot) Sound: 5/10 (decent quality, but very repetitive and gets boring quickly) Design: 3/10 (see above) Visuals: 3/20 (very 90's)

Cave Story Plus9
Jan 15, 2013
Cave Story's charm lies in it's polished platforming, great pacing and an ability to connect with the player on an emotional level. You start out a stranger to a world, without instruction or introduction, but before long you will get involved with the world and it's characters a lot more than you'd expect from 2D platformer.

Highly enjoyable puzzle/construction game. The puzzles never stop being interesting and challenging. You'll find yourself thinking about "waldos" and reactors in your sleep. 8/10 for the visuals that are very simple but well designed. The interface is very well laid out, the keyboard shortcuts help quickly implement your designs. Some of the bosses look goofy. 11/10 for the music. The soundtrack is so good I like to just listen to it at work. Can't praise it enough. There is a forgettable excuse plot in the form of pages from a novella that you earn as you progress, but you have no control over.

Rochard9
Dec 19, 2012
Rochard keeps you engaged without getting really hard. The difficulty curve is gentle. The puzzle elements are interesting. The trickiest part is finding the hidden treasure pieces. Playing with gravity, the central part of the game's mechanics, never gets boring. The game looks nice, wit subtle visual effects that help you solve puzzles. I love the creators for not putting in any "filler" to make the game feel longer: each part feels unique and interesting. The Excuse Plot ties the levels together well.

The Binding of Isaac2

If you are hoping to find a 21-century version of nethack, simply move on, there is nothing to see here. Nothing, that is, but ugly, uninspired graphics and badly designed mechanics. Some games are *good* because you are at the mercy of a Random Number God, but it takes good design and atmosphere to make that work.

Dead Island3

I think this game is a huge missed opportunity. They obviously spent a lot of effort on creating a world rich in eye candy. Unfortunately you will spend most of your time traveling to various locations and brawling with the same few types of zombies, running boring errands that you won't care much about anyways. Did I say "repetitive"? I lost count on how many times I had to do the jumpkick / stomp on the head killer combo. It is unfortunate that such a rich environment should inform the player so poorly. An openable door, a breakable door and a piece of wall that just appears like a door all look the same. There are invisible barriers designed to keep you on track that you just can't pass. The "GPS" supposed to help you navigate from point A to B on a boring trek will cheerfully try to lead you through solid walls. After a daring jump you can simply get stuck somewhere and have to restart from a checkpoint. You cannot save. You have the one game progress that is automatically kept for you. Seriously, games in the 90's had saves! And then there are the big and small aggravations. You can carry a hundred medkits and they take up one inventory slot. But 13 knives? No. I won't even go into weapon breakage. Pick up a bottle of alcohol, and it becomes your active weapon. (You don't notice this because you don't see the bottle anymore.) So next time a zombie attacks you and you click attack what happens? Your hero DRINKS IT RIGHT ON THE SPOT and gets drunk in the middle of a fight. God... But all these little faults are irrelevant compared to the fact that the game just fails to connect emotionally. The NPC's are bland, their terror unauthentic, acts and needs out of touch. There's a woman in the middle of the zombie apocalypse NEXT TO A SWIMMING POOL asking you for water. (Gives you 100XP for each bottle, oh yeah, now I'm immersed.) People huddle in shelters with the door wide open. Yeah, now I really believe their fear of inevitable death. Sometimes NPCs attempt to instill a sense of urgency with lines like "We must waste no more time", all the while comfortably standing in one spot, doing nothing. The lines are repetitive (oh only you can help us, thank you so much for your help, our heroes), the voice acting uninspired. In the end I started to think these people deserved the undead brought upon them, which in my mind turned the zombies into the game's protagonists. The "plot", well... worse than a summer blockbuster, except there are no twists. The game just lacks atmosphere and spirit.
