Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons3
May 22, 2024
I'd say that game is okay. Some decent graphics, interesting ideas and plenty of unlockables. However, gameplay mechanics aren't so great. Slow paced tiny character interactions make for a real chore of an experience. You'll most likely play it once or twice and never think of booting it up again. Come to think of it, is there any Double Dragon game out there that is worth playing? They've all either aged so poorly or weren't even good to begin with. This seems to be the franchise that, apart from nostalgia, definitely has absolutely no merit anymore. Exception could be made for Rage of the Dragons, but that is an unofficial title, so...

The Cave (2017)8
Aug 1, 2022
I feel that this game was given an average reviews only because everyone expected some kind of Monkey Island continuation from Gilbert. However, after giving it a shot, I can safely say it is a real gem. Gilbert's storytelling oozes from every aspect of the gameplay and, personally, I think this was the peak of his creative output. Had he had a bigger budget at his disposal, I'm certain that The Cave would be an authentic platform-adventure masterpiece. Still an awesome experience, though. I came to appreciate The Cave more after going through rather mediocre Thimbleweed Park where Ron indulged in his dorky programming nostalgia to give us one of the most ridiculous and disappointing endings in the history of point-and-click genre. I recall him not receiving the critique all that well... In fact, he got all offended, kind of like a spoiled brat, i guess because his salad days of a programmer aren't quite a material for an adventure game and thus didn't sit well with the common people. Oh, well... Too bad for you, Ronny. Hope you've learned something from that. However, as I am writing this, Return to the Monkey Island is announced. Ron is at the helm and he is once again showing the traits of an angry child faced with (justified) criticism of the appalling artstyle direction he took. That, and the ever growing suspicion that the game will be woke (Disney owns the IP, after all). Anyway, back to the Cave... Like I said, the plot is outright great, graphics are nice and the puzzles are just hard enough. The humor as well as the morbid parts have Ron's signature all over them and it's Ron at his best. You can tell that this game was developed just before woke culture began destroying the entertainment industry. There's little to no chance that the dark comedy project like The Cave would see its release in these times. But, it's my cup of tea and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. Wholehearted recommendation.

This is more of a semi-interactive cartoon than an adventure game. There's nothing to solve, the texts go on forever, dialogs are more often than not just boring and/or plain absurd and the story is apparently envisioned as a Twin Peaks meets Inside but falls far short of both aforementioned franchises respectively. What is it about? Everything and nothing. There's no real plot. It's just as if the creators had no real script and were making it all up as they went along. Or better: as if they put their weird dreams on the paper and turned that confusion and nonsense into a motion picture which they then improperly christened as "the game". The execution of such surreal ideas really puts developers' immaturity into perspective. The product is nice-looking, the atmosphere is captivating but is wasted on the very basic interaction with it and , for most of the time, lines and lines of pointless and off-putting text. I suppose the game works better if you're high. In other case, however, I cannot recommend it.

Beautiful looking game but, unfortunately, as someone mentioned, virtually unplayable due to the god-awful controls. There's like trillion inputs, both keyboard and mouse, for what is supposed to be a plain straightforward run-and-gun. The game won't recognize my joystick and it wouldn't do me any good if it did since I "only" have 10 buttons at my disposal and the app requires, like, 30. Devs should have stuck with the good old formula "the less is more". Instead, we got a game where one must use mouse cursor just to make the character face the other way (?!?!). Long story short, control inputs have ruined what might have been a great game. Since it can't even be played properly, the score of zero would be more appropriate but I'll reward it with one solely on account of nice art-style and the fact I loved the first game.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition6
Jan 20, 2018
Just another update to SFV unworthy of being a standalone title , but there it is... A damage control by Capcom. An attempt at re-branding poorly received SFV. So what's new? Intro, new color scheme of menus (prettier, but overall the same. Options are still all over the place so to speak), redesigned battle intro, one new character, one new stage and, of course, an arcade mode. A bit soulless arcade mode, if you ask me. Endings are just one cheap comic book panel and there's still no character specific intros. Gallery is ridiculous. Every single piece of "art" was on the internet way before the game's release. Oh, and there's an uninspiring Bonus Stage... And that about covers it. The biggest addition to the Arcade Edition are the new V-Triggers. They'll further balance the game though my complaint is that the character development suffers from the eternal need for everything to be so tightly balanced. Special moves design is hampered by this balancing issue and therefore we get so many non-appealing new characters. Now, for some PC port specific issues: Netcode **** big time, so no change there. I don't consider this to be a serious flaw since I prefer not losing my nerves by being torn apart in the laggy online matches. I'm no pro and I don't have a slightest intention of trying to become one and waste my life by learning a fighting game up to six hours a day. Still no option for player two to use keyboard which is just unacceptable. Graphic requirements are still ridiculously high bearing in mind how sloppy certain models are (new intro takes about 50% of CPU resources! WTF?!). Capcom tried to justify abnormal size of some of their chars' fists and feet by saying that's done deliberately and has something to do with hitboxes/hurtboxes... Another corporal lie. After facing heavy criticism, they made sure not to repeat the same mistake with the newcomers. Sakura is, for example, pretty much proportional compared to earlier bizarre female models. All in all, SFVAE is a decent fighter, which is a huge step forward from the disgrace that was the original release of SFV. However, it cannot lift a finger to Ultra Street Fighter IV which to this day remains the best fighting game, not only in the series, but in the world. I'd give it a 7 but I just can't make myself overlook a poor PC optimization regarding controls. :/

Installed the game. Liked the design and aesthetics, but the control scheme is just unforgivable! There's just no excuse for a game made in the second decade of the 21st century not to have a customizable inputs! God forbid if you happen to have an inadequate controller plugged in when launching the game. Some commands become plain non-existent and the game, of course, non-playable. After an extensive digging on the Internet I found out that the catch is to unplug the controller before attempting to play the game, and then you may actually use keyboard and mouse and have all of the inputs at hand (although some of them don't make a lot of sense). Well, I, for one, don't wan't to have to unplug my controller in order to play anything. I want to be able to choose whether I wish to use keyboard & mouse or joystick and I want to be able to remap whatever **** of the input setup devs figured would do the trick. And I want it ON SPOT! No third party program, no searching the forums, no waiting for the fixes... These are the controls for the game, for Christ's sake! Waiting for patches and **** Are you kidding me?! The non-functioning game is in the market and it's getting a decent reviews?! Beyond idiotic! All paid critics! I don't give a **** that this is a small company and yadda, yadda, yadda... If you're gonna make the game, do it right or don't do it at all. This non-customizable crap with XBox control layout is just not acceptable anymore (if it ever was, in the first place)! Zero! Move on.

Ultra Street Fighter IV9
Sep 8, 2014
The final iteration (allegedly) of Street Fighter 4 is here! Ultra has certain issues with online play, but that will undoubtedly be addressed by Capcom in no-time. Other than that, everything that makes this franchise great is here plus the new chars & stages (although copy-pasted from SFxT), new mechanics and new tweaks. Played it for a few weeks now and the overall impression is most positive. Still the best fighting game out there by far!

Pac-Man Museum4

Namco have been rehashing their original Pac-Man game for decades now and although every time they re-release it the overused word in the advertisement is 'arcade accurate' it is unfortunately never ever so. This latest installment is not an exception. All of the games suffer from certain lag and if you have intended to play them on a professional level (aim at the high-score) you will be gravely disappointed. The only reason to give this collection of games grade 4 and not less is the inclusion of Championship Edition and Battle Royale. They are a great addition, but laggy controls are issue in these as well. Key mapping is non-existent and operating the menus can be quite confusing at times. All in all, a major let-down and by all means a forgettable entry in Pac-Man series.

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition5
Jan 6, 2014
MK is back with the vengeance! Or is it? Although this one is universally hailed as the game that revived the franchise, it's still light years behind its bitter rival Street Fighter. As it was the case with Midway before, NRS follows the same principle of slacking off. Let's break it down... First of all, the graphics: Seem outdated. I noticed everyone praising the smoothness of the gameplay... Well no wonder! With gfx like these, the game should run flawlessly even on older machines! Furthermore, the models are extremely poorly executed, often anatomically incorrect, and I'm not talking about some minor flaws (for reference examine Liu Kang). It's also worth noting that all of the female model templates are exactly the same, a trait shared with at least 10+ male model templates. On the bright side, the backgrounds are really nice. Second online play: to summarize in one word garbage! Moving on... Third gameplay mechanics: What becomes obvious to anyone who played previous entries in the series is that, despite everything what developers say, the game engine is nothing new. It is polished, reworked so that the fights take place in 2D plane, but, in fact, it dates way back... Perhaps even all the way to Deadly Alliance. Fourth: there seems to be a serious balance issue, but this is not Street Fighter and it never was, so who cares? Fifth the story: IMO horrible! Back to the future knock off with plenty of plot holes and a truckload of inconsistencies regarding the original timeline. Frankly, I think that the dream match would be a far better solution. All in all, strip fatalities from the experience and you're left with a mediocre fighting game that has already paved its way to the oblivion. Fun to play with a friend for a couple of days, perform finishing moves but that's about it.

Worms Revolution3
Oct 16, 2012
Ever since Armageddon/World Party worms series seem to go more and more downhill. After a disastrous Reloaded, we now get Revolution which is a shy step forward but, overall, a needless entry in the long line of Worms games that don't live up to their 10 years old predecessors. So what's wrong with Revolution? Well, once you get over the shiny new graphics, it gets down to pretty much everything! Before I start listing, let's get one thing straight: this game DOES NOT feature a brand new game engine as developers want you to believe! Instead, it's just heavily modified Reloaded. With that said, let's get down to business... Once again, you can have only 4 worms per team and the customization is rather obscure (terrain editor, for one, is BY FAR inferior to the one in Armageddon/WP). Once you're through with the boring (and occasionally confusing) menus and start the game, you'll get overwhelmed by unresponsive and laggy controls and a frame-rate to match. Although some weapon physics are improved over Reloaded, there are certain essential items which appear unruly and glitchy. Ninja rope is nowhere near as useful as it was in Armageddon/WP and, most of the time, it just deactivates for no reason. This, along with a nerfed jet pack, makes traveling the distance a true mission: impossible - a feat faithfully carried over from Reloaded. There are some innovations such as troops customization (you can have a fat worm, slow but strong, a little guy, fast but weak, a brainiac...) but it doesn't matter since these come in a form of a modern gaming plague that some people refer to as DLC. However, since it's pretty clear that a real worms fan won't even dignify this game with a second look, the DLC might as well be non-existent (hee, hee, hee). To make a long story short, this is a game for those under the age of 9 and the ones who can't play proper worms (and by 'proper' I mean the 'bonus' content which is Worms: Armageddon, by all means superior version to this pathetic latest installment). Of course, 10s are awarded by the ones who are paid to do so and imbeciles, whose opinion is ,therefore, irrelevant.

Street Fighter X Tekken4
Jun 7, 2012
Street Fighter for those who can't play Street Fighter! Bunch of needless technical baggage that was probably supposed to bring the experience on a whole new level but, unfortunately, did exactly the opposite. Personally, I never found this 'tag team' **** entertaining, but I decided to give the game a try anyway. It annoys me that, when playing single player campaign, if I wish to see the proper ending, I must choose my favorite fighter and his/her corresponding partner. I, for example, dig Bison but absolutely hate playing Juri. However, I have to select the **** in order to view the ending cinematic. Okay, there are other decent features in the game, arcade mode is not my only option, right? Weeeeell, not exactly. The more I played it, the more it felt like Street Fighter 4. Now, imagine SF4 with gameplay mechanics adjusted for a 5 YO kid, and you'll get the right idea of what SFxT actually is. Tekken portion of the roster doesn't seem competitive with its SF counterpart. Maybe it's because I never played Tekken, but I see that the most of the community came to a same conclusion. There's the thing with the crappy DLC, the one that makes you clearly see the true, greedy face of Capcom. Online seems to be horribly laggy, but I that's just what I heard and read. I was smart enough to play the pirate version first and, after the lowdown, I certainly won't be buying the real deal. Definitively not worthy of the ridiculous price!

Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection1
Feb 13, 2012
This release is as awful as it gets! Aside the fact that the games included in the collection are seriously dated, there are other major issues that just cannot be ignored. Controls can't be properly configured and require player to use only arrow keys. I'm not certain about joystick input since the game just won't detect any of my pads! Needless to say that this automatically makes vs mode inaccessible. Online is unbearably laggy and that's just something I can't understand! I mean, these games are, like, million years old! How hard can it possibly be to make them work properly online? Other flaws include lack of ANY bonus content and a very little number of achievements. The game was originally planned to be in HD but sloppy Netherrealm dudes decided that they don't give a damn to strain themselves. Bearing this in mind, it doesn't surprise that the final product is the way it is - quickly scrapped piece of amateurish junk thrown in the market just to milk a few extra bucks on account of recently released MK9. This 'collection' is a slap in the face to all MK fans worldwide and I don't believe that anyone in the right mind (apart from the Netherrealm employees) would reward this trash - and that's an overestimate - with a favorable review. If you own a MAME roms of MK one through Ultimate, play those and don't even think about wasting your money on this abomination. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why I even rated this game 1... 0 seems more objective. Unforgivable crap.

I'm a long time SF fan. When this game came out, I just had to have it. I didn't expect it to be anything special. In fact, I was very skeptic about transfer to 3D. It turned out that I was worried for no reason. Unique 2D SF gameplay is perfectly executed in 3D graphics. CAPCOM used the very best mixture of fighting mechanics from previous SF titles (with main focus on SSF2T and SF3:Third Strike) and implemented them perfectly into SF4. Excellent for both old time fans and newbies to the series. The game appealed to me from the very start but only after playing it for month or two have I realized how great it really is. Once I mastered the Focus Attack (new universal technique) the game's true potential was finally revealed and I was very positively surprised to realize such ingame depth. Well done, CAPCOM. The gameplay is simple but offers wide variety of possibilities. Technically, this game deserves 10 but lack of more appealing new chars made me lower the grade. I believe that there's no need for so many Shotokan fighters (once you think about it, Sakura, Akuma and especially Dan are rather pointless addition to the roster. New chars could have taken their places). Gen has too complex fighting style to be useful, C. Viper has interesting design but that's all... Rufus, on the other hand, is pretty decent fighter but lacks appeal (which is probably why people don't select him so often) while Abel and Gouken are too slow and could use at least one more useful special move. Even with release of SSF4, CAPCOM has once again let me down regarding the new chars. On the plus side, characters are pretty balanced.

Game mechanics resemble more the original Worms (1995) than intended Armageddon. No back jump, no upward jump... WTF? Weapon inventory lacks some of the essential items (Worm selector, bungee, cows...). Most of the new weapons are pointless addition or merely lousy variation of old ones that didn't make their way into this game. Usage of Ninja Rope appeas unruly. Usefulness of Girders is greatly reduced. Physics **** big time and graphics are, by all means, no better than in previous installments (In fact, they seem even worse). 3D fires and explosions are rather confusing, screen is annoyingly shaky during booms and everything appears to be so small! Whole game is nothing but big S..T wrapped in a shiny paper and it's not even worth a try. A major step back in a Worms franchise. No patch will ever fi that
