The whole premise is idiotic. But, if you manage to shut your brain off, it sorta works as a goofier, campier and more plastic-looking version of "Goonies" where characters are adults or adult-like but still behave like children.

A classic (if a little stale today). It's good to know where all the heist movies come from (including the Polish "Vabank"). It's also good to know that this movie reveals how Phoenicians con us into believing all kinds of psyops and how it goes above 99.9% of our collective heads.

I wanted to believe. And yet, it's still your run-of-the-mill programming for ****. White people bad, colored people good, kids having diabetes perfectly normal and so on - that's programming part. The **** part is the plot where mcguffins (kid's insulin, cookie-cutter grandpa) tow it to its conclusion along pretty random and silly happenings and behaviors. Speaking of programming, why do you think they stressed the comet was INTERSTELLAR even though it makes zero sense statistically?

Very realistic, if a bit boring. It also has this problem of having a hard time convincing anybody impervious to after-war propaganda of its main dramatic premise - i.e. seeing helping one totalitarianism (arguably worse) against the other as something heroic.

Moviemaking at its best. The theme is magnificent, the story is great (and made even greater by the fact that life had written it), the casting is top-notch, directing, music, cinematography... you name it. Meticulously slow. Matchingly boring, dreary and gross. Gosh... today's cinema. It has to be **** painful, doesn't it? It's either pointlessly perverse/perversely pointless or pointlessly painful/painfully pointless with those damn people. No other option. And to think it's all coming from the brilliant "In Bruges" creator. There's just no hope for humanity. And yes, I got your little precious donkey gnostic allegory against God, you ****.

Gosh...salesmen. There has to be a special place in Hell reserved just for them. The script is great, spotted with truth bombs, if a bit too talkative (but the stellar cast, nomen omen, sells it). This is more of a theatrical play of a movie, so you have to like this type of cinema to enjoy it.

On the positive side: it's a kind of a man's cinema nobody does any longer. Also, it is indeed very well directed. I especially liked De Niro breaking the fourth wall in a scene with Vicky when he was "showing her his dad'a house". It was done to make anybody watching it uncomfortable, effectively turning them into a peep. On the negative side: it was pretty boring as far as biopics go. I guess "raging" is as definitive as flat and singular a dimension and bulls aren't very interesting animals.

A strange one. I don't really know what this movie wanted to be? A comedy? A farce? A drama? Did it want to say something? Or only entertain? It doesn't really say much and it's more cringe-inducing and over-the-top than entertaining. It's a product of a culture it wants to criticize. It's making fun of it and embracing it at the same time. It's a somewhat coherently and somewhat campy looking mess.

Stealing a line from another reviewer: I liked the parts with airplanes :). Don't get me wrong, the rest was not particularly bad. But, the emotional parts were overly melodramatic (and made it look padded with too much filler), and you better don't engage your rational qualities at some plot points (especially during the last segment) - you won't see much sense there. This movie was totally in tune with it's hero - a dying breed. A proper blockbuster focusing on delivering fun and action.

A Hollywood's fan service to nerds. More an assumption Hollywood has what a nerd would like to see than what an actual nerd would like to see. I give a bigger score than it deserves, because at least they try. They still don't seem to grasp though why GoT (sans the last season) was such a massive success. You have to be serious about fantasy. Not try to wink-wink audience into your belief that it's all utter bollocks so let's better get it on with it.

Villeneuve'a strong suit (esthetics, building up the atmoshpere, sensuality) has found enough room to shine at last. Woke accents are, mercifully, barely noticeable, and if present, they manage to defend themselves. Casting is top-notch as, in such a heavily theatrical movie, has to. There are things to nit-pick but they shan't obscure the big picture and the big picture is glorious.

A tough nut to crack. Great dialogues (and even better monologues!) and acting. Seemingly, it's daringly revealing. Some points it rises hit eerily close to home (esp. during this covid craze). But, it's still programming. And I've a feeling I missed the gist of it (apart from the usual: spreading despair, nihilism, atheism and moral rot). The melodrama arc is not believable and way too meta. The movie's focal point, the Howard Beale character, feels an artificial stooge. Strange one, for sure.

Americans and their pathetic attempts at building a mythology. Apart from the "twist" with the black girl, thanks to the unreliable narrator shtick, nothing resembling any sense whatsoever ever happens in this movie and all this convoluted drama doesn't work on me, at all. And don't think the programming is off here. You see, violence is fun. It will make all of your problems go away. Also, aren't people crazy? Unhappy for no reason. And life is a failed comedian stage. And you're the comedian.

'm not an Indonesian and I found this lacking in substance. It could be easily edited and compressed to like 25 min. War is never nice and domestic ones are the worst. I don't know the country's history enough to judge who was right in this conflict but I've seen enough of this movie to judge it's not even trying to be impartial. And no, stating that communists are godless and immoral is not propaganda. If they were God-fearing, moral people, they weren't communists.

A gangster classic, for sure, but didn't blow me away. The memed scenes with laughing Ray Liotta took me out of it for a moment and I thought overall it glorified crime a little bit too much for my liking. What it was best at was building up emotions. The franticness and craziness of it all. The paranoia that at the end becomes not irrational at all.

If the parasited on family is so lazy and stupid why do they find themselves on the opposite end of the social stick? World is full of smart but lazy and hard-working but stupid people. The meager rest is mostly comprised of both lazy and stupid. If you want to work and are smart to boot believe me society will find a way to appreciate you.

t has a story that sports at least one complete character arc. It has good acting here and there (Sam Rockwell, but he’s always great). The drama is spread too thin (esp. in the first part). Shame it’s underlined with hideous modernist exsistentialism. Just look at the conversation with a priest or, for even better gist of the thing, the monolog with a deer. The world is empty, there’s no God, our sufferings are utterly meaningless. Just despair and thank us for our entertainment.

Great script and some excellent performances, with some of them (e.g. Steve Buscemi's) even exceptionally great. I guess, it works even more for western audiences, because they naturally take it to be exaggerated for the purposes of dark humor. Whilst we, people from behind the Iron Curtain, know that it's not necessarily so (but still can appreciate a good laugh - after all, as Russians say, if you have to either weep or laugh, you laugh).

A both heartwarming and dazzling fairy tale for the masses. Too light on the palate for a real hard SF fan and hard to follow for a westerner due to Chinese-assumed knowledge that feels like plot holes and all the similar faces that you'll have hard time to tell apart.
