Another film that went and made me sad. Wish there was more focus on calling out some of the awful people that pushed someone so fantastic to this point. It feels a bit scared to bring itself to point the finger.

This film made me really sad for multiple reasons. It's really good though and I think that most people should watch it at least once.

This film is touching, sad, frustrating and uplifting in all the right places. The best film that Apple TV+ as to offer.

War Machine5

So, this definitely isn't a comedy... If it's truly meant to be then it's one of the most confusing and weird comedies I've ever seen. That's probably why this film misses it's potential, because it doesn't know what it wants to be. There's a couple nice performances but Brad Pitt isn't at his best here. Honestly, he's about an olympic sized swimming pool away from it. A couple of scenes do really pull you in and got me interested but then it was just kinda... over?

Spider-Man: Far from Home7
Apr 25, 2020
There are a couple of funny moments that are too often followed up by cringe-worthy moments. This is very much a teen, coming-of-age movie. I'm a big Spiderman fan, and I'm sure there are some things that went over my head due to the fact I've not really any interest in the Avengers movies. However, there are some really enjoyable scenes here as well as a decent Spiderman and some brilliant visual moments led by Mysterio. The pacing is quite good too, so it doesn't feel like it drags.

Knives Out8

Great film that subverts the idea of the mystery thriller by giving you the answers first and then drip feeding you drama throughout. Brilliant acting and characters as well as looking really good visually.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse8

A beautifully and creatively animated film that has something for all ages. A brilliant cast of characters bring the story to life and are lifted even higher by the fantastic soundtrack. I want a sequel.

Good film that has plenty of gore and some great performances from Shia and Tom Hardy. It's also got a villain that you really hate, which is always good. Romantic moments seemed a bit forced and pointless, but ultimately a good film in a setting that I really love.

Uncut Gems8

A great film that drags the viewer along without stopping for almost a single minute for the length of its runtime. Adam Sandler puts in a surprisingly fantastic performance which is one of, if not the best role I've seen him in. His character is simultaneously such a likeable underdog but also a rude, arrogant fool. You're left facepalming after every time he catches a break only to then ruin it with stupid decisions. There are points where you need to suspend your disbelief in order to really give the film a chance to give you some payoff however, which can definitely break your immersion. The ending was brilliant, shocking and came completely out of the blue to drive home the films' message.

The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot6
Apr 6, 2020
Like many other people, I was drawn to this film because of the title. I've been meaning to watch it for quite a while now and finally got round to it. In general, the film is really quite enjoyable and I like the portrayal of the Bigfoot a lot as they've gone in a direction quite different to the 'conventional' portrayal. The premise of the story is pretty crazy, but kept me intrigued. The themes of finding belonging, loneliness and comfort in old age are really the strongest parts of the film and where a great performance from the lead actor can be found. However, this is marred by some strange editing choices as well as a romance story that feels like it's been wedged in for the sake of ticking a box. The film would be much stronger without it.
However, I think this is worth your time for the premise and the strong moments alone.

The Platform6
Apr 4, 2020
The Platform is basically a midnight gore film like 'The Cube' if it was merged with a metaphorical movie. The brutalist design is brilliant and effective to push the principles of the feature, but it tends to feel quite shallow by the time that you make it to the the lacklustre ending. Also, if you do intend to watch this film, then go for the Spanish version with subtitles as the English dub is absolutely awful.

Midsommar8
Apr 3, 2020
Midsommar is the definition of a slow burn. I was tentatively pulled along for the ride from start to finish and whenever I felt like I was about to write it off and get off the train, something **** crazy would reel me back in. The characters are the weakest part of the movie by far, although this is not for a lack of decent acting, but instead lacklustre writing in my opinion. The highlight of the film for me was the fantastic visuals and the brilliant soundtrack, rising and falling along with the beats of the story. What story it does tell is done very well through a lack of dialogue for the most part, especially in the last 30 minutes where everything coalesces and the pieces fall into place finally. A great film that will definitely not be for everybody, but if you're looking for something outside of your comfort zone, this may be for you as the atmosphere, cinematography and music are all stellar and accompanied by a story that gives you 'erm, what?' moments every 15 minutes.

In the Tall Grass5
Apr 3, 2020
There are probably some people out there who will really really love this movie. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. A premise that started out really intriguing is bogged down after 30 minutes by strange unexplainable moments and a lacklustre 'villain' if you could even call him that. The story didn't capture my attention enough to even want to try to figure out what was going on by the end.

The Peanut Butter Falcon8
Mar 29, 2020
Peanut Butter Falcon is a film with a lovely spirit that pulls you in and takes you along for the ride. The characters are brilliant with the exception of one or two that feel slightly underdeveloped. Shia does an outstanding performance that really ties everything together. There are some nice cameos towards the end of the film too. My biggest gripe being that the ending felt very rushed and really left me wanting another 10-15 mins to really tie it all together. But as a whole, great film that is worth a watch for sure.

The Invisible Man7

Pretty great movie that I was looking forward to seeing. It keeps a tense atmosphere throughout and definitely had some moments that I didn't expect. The story and characters weren't amazing, but the premise and atmosphere carry them for the duration of the film.
