While an interesting experiment (similar to the "7 Up" series), this film is unsuccessful in telling an engrossing story. Does the viewer really care how this kid is going to turn out?
As I was leaving the cinema I overheard two women describing this movie as "Lord of the Flies with fashion models". A more apt comparison might be with "The Admirable Crichton". This is a long movie and may not reward all viewers but there was enough pointed satire and broad comedy for me.
Where did America go wrong? Something strange happened in the 1970s. A country that "won" the space race using the power of science took a U-turn. Facts were passe. Myths became fashionable. Maybe man didn't walk on the Moon. Can you hear the black helicopters circling above? Forget the Kool-Aid - taste the chemtrails baby.
This supernatural horror movie will remind you of similar movies (in particular Silence of the Lambs and Saw) but it is so well acted and directed that you should definitely check it out
Very well directed and acted but I think without an understanding of English folk tales about the Green Man this movie will be very confusing to mainstream audiences
Great cast and visuals wasted on a painfully stupid plot. Restarting the sun with a nuclear bomb is about as possible as making the sea taste sweet with a spoonful of sugar
I didn't watch this in the cinema when it came out. I thought it sounded silly. On my first watch, I ejected the DVD after ten minutes because of the historical inaccuracies. However, a lot of people *love* this movie so I thought I should give it a second go. It's... OK. I think a lot of fans give it high ratings because of the fight scenes but I found them underwhelming because of the overuse of CGI and fast cuts. On the plus side, the acting is top-notch. It was good to see Richard Harris and Oliver Reed in another historical drama.
The story was good if a little implausible in places. How is it a tall, attractive young doctor is still unattached? I liked the performances but the direction was heavy-handed.
This film has amazing cinematography and is well-acted but the direction does not reveal the frankly mystifying motivations of, and actions taken by, the central characters
It's hard to believe that this overlong, meandering and rather dull family "drama" got nominated for Best Picture. Why Adam Driver wants custody of his annoying brat of a son is frankly unbelievable. The less said about the bizarre musical numbers at the end the better. Avoid
While the (almost) one shot technique is clever, this movie sometimes felt like a first person shooter video game. I was never really invested in the characters. The score was also overblown in places taking me out of the scene. For a truly memorable film about WWI, watch "Gallipoli" instead.
Typical body horror flick from Cronenberg but the game design/console theme gives it a fresh twist. The "what is real" concept predates the movie "Inception" by a decade.
