Most surprising, refined game I have played in a long time. Do yourself a favor, do not read up on it but let yourself be surprised by the story. Story is top notch, dialogue is well written, plenty of suprising twists. Go and enjoy this jewel!
Good game, gameplay is on par with Hades. Unfortunately all the rest (story, repetition, longevity) is not on that level. In the end, every new stage is the same as the previous one with just buffed versions of the same enemies. And once in hard mode you can do it all again from scratch, I did expect a bit more creativity there. But I did enjoy my run with the game in general
First of all, I never had heard of this game so came in without any expectation at all. And I was pleasantly surprised :). It's a horror/discovery/scifi/myth adventure. Story was great, so I am not going to spoil it. I loved the twists and turns. Gameplay wise, the "combat" isn't the best part of the game but it gets the job done. Level design was fantastic. A lot of horror games like to add in parts where you intentionally lose your way, but I don't find that enjoyable, this game does not make that mistake. I also appreciate they didn't add unnecessary gore just for the shock effect, everything is functional for the general feel of the game. It is a game which isn't overly long, but it doesn't outstay its welcome that way either. I prefer this over being put through a lot of filler content.
This game is downright fantastic in every way, I can highly recommend it to anyone! A very refined experience, technically flawless. Gameplay is fun and never gets dull, new stuff keeps getting introduced every run, dialogue is top notch. I can't think of a way to improve this game :)
Got this game from PS+, never heard of it so not knowing what to expect. And I experienced a pleasant surprise :). Game reminds me of Demon's Souls in diffulty and setup (ie Nexus level type hub), but than with guns. the good: -Graphics are not mind blowing but get the job done. -Shooting mechanics are fantastic! -A nice touch is the semi randomness where the levels are constructed differently on a different playthrough and with (possibly) different bosses, adds a bit of variety which keeps things fresh. Game can be really hard at times, but I don't mind a challenge the bad: - Bosses generally can spawn minions, which can tip the scale for some bosses from hard to unfair - The last boss, really didn't like the concept of that fight Overall, if you don't mind a challenging game, I can highly recommend!
+: it has excellent graphics -: opening level is meh, just brutal to be brutal Liked every MGS game before so I actually wanted to like it and kept playing for 5 hours, but I simply did not have (any) fun
I had my reservations before going into this game begin based on a franchise, but I was very pleasantly surprised, this is a good game! the bad: - First hour feels rather generic and first enemies you encounter have a stupid AI (that improves later on though) the ok: -Graphics won't blow your mind, bud get the job done -There is a skill tree, but very basic the good: - the characters are really deep and have a great backstory. superb job on the dialogue by the voice actors! - End of the hospitality level was a moment in gaming history for me :) - Great pacing in the game. It's also not too short, but doesn't overstay it's welcome either - It's nice they implemented a choice system which has an impact on the game So in short, I can recommend this game!
I love this game and played it since it was announced, the first game that got me unhooked from my Killing Floor 2-addiction :) For the record, I never cared for a battle royal shooter and couldn't imagine playing one for a longer time. I did try the BO4 battle royal and fortnite, but not for me. And than Apex came along ... It has great visuals, runs smoothly, fine gameplay, smart comms systems (pinging of objects) and revive mechanics etc. It receives superb updates too, out of the blue for season 3 a complete new (and very enjoyable) map to play on, was surprised in a very good way. So go try it!
I had read great things about this game and was excited when it was announced for the PSV. So I bought it and was greatly disappointed... The (very!) ugly visuals are really off-putting for me, I don't like the "fighting/dialogue" system and I didn't care for the characters (but in all honesty, I didn't get far, I even restarted the game on a later date to see if I had a different feel about it than and give it a second chance, but no..) But if you like it, the better for you :)
Expected more of this game, it's the same thing that repeats itself each level. It promotes itself as a puzzle, but it's more related to luck or in some instances patience. nice timewaster but not much else.
I loved Final Fantasy Tactics, so was excited when I heard about this game. The good: At first, I was very much in love, it has quite a few quality of life improvements over FFT: you can save during a battle (of which some can last over an hour), you can put your archer/caster back to it's initial position if you moved to a bad position but didn't finish your turn (which was a problem for me with archers/mages in FFT), etc The fact that the story branches based on your decisions is also a plus for replayability. The mediocre: It was also nice to be able to deploy over 10 units, but in the long run it makes battles too long without much added use. Story started also ok, but became less interesting and engaging than in FFT. Same with battle scenario's, there is a lack of unique setups in this game, which is a problem when you have to fight a lot. You are also encouraged to level up by grinding extra areas since you might otherwise be underleveled versus the next boss, which I did but that made my end part way too easy without any challenge or difficulty. The bad: Last number of battles was really a slog, extremely uninspired to have several battles facing an uphill enemy which didn't pose a challenge but took 30 minutes to get through anyway per fight. By the end, I couldn't care anymore, even if the final battle was a bit more unique. In short: Good game, but too drawn out..
Bought this game based on all the positive feedback I read on Metacritic. Initially I liked it: enjoyable combat, great visuals, technically sound. But it quickly grew old, the combat does outstay its welcome and I found myself rushing past enemies after a few hours in. Story is also rather meh. Main problem for me is the by the numbers approach which repeats itself continuously: collect three items, beat a boss, collect again three items, than beat three bosses to advance etc. If combat in between gets stale and the story isn't interesting, you only continue pushing to finish the game because you invested already a lot of time in it. But I still gave up after a new repeated announcement of "go beat three bosses" after I collected again three gems...
Thoroughly enjoyed this game. Good combat, nice graphics, well executed. Overal the difficulty was pretty ok, aside from one bossbattle midgame which was really a spike in the difficulty Only complaint I had: it overstayed it's welcome, a tad shorter with more focus would have upped the quality, but overall enjoyed it. One playthrough is enough for me though
Game looks great, I had a technically flawless experience (which was unfortunately not the case with all my games, "XCOM 2" *AHEM*) and I enjoyed most of the activities in the game. Negative points: there are too much scavenging locations. Even though they varied each one, it does get stale but it's nowhere necessary to go search them all. Of all the activities, the races were also a bit meh, contrary to the free cruising through the world. But these are only minor gripes, in general this game does deserve a lot more praise than it had
It's a bit hard to explain and it might not be for everyone, but I greatly enjoyed this game and I can highly recommend people to at least try this game on the PS Vita. You're basically a border patrol guard who needs to inspect IDs and decide to let people in (or not). The guy who came up with this idea is a genius, and it's been very well implemented with a few surprises in store when playing the story. You will need to be focused and have attention to detail, it can be a stressfull game at times. But I enjoyed it :)
The good: - I enjoyed the story. You are basically playing here as the anti-hero if you think about it :) - Nice graphics - Fluid combat, nice change of pace of the more traditional turn based combat The bad: - A few very sudden difficulty spikes - A few technical issues (which did not stop me from completing the game to be clear). There were two places were a story animation seemed to be stuck. It took 2-3 minutes to finish. Also 2 crashes during my story run, but thanks to the excellent autosave system, no progress was lost. So in short, I can highly recommend it, especially since it's free on PS Plus currently.
My most played game on PS4, so I'm not going to rate it low :) But seriously, this is a fantastic game and the developers really make an effort of doing regular events and adding stuff to the game. Since I started playing (around July 17), two bosses have been added, 8 new maps, a few new weapons and modes. And the gameplay itself is very satisfying and can be tweaked to your liking and level with the difficulty and length filters. So I can highly recommend this game to everyone who likes FPS, a bit of gore and great gameplay:)
Nice expansion of the base game. I like the extra variation in missions and tools. It's good to get some modifiers to start the game with too (though number rather limited compared to Enemy Unknown) As for the titular chosen: they're an OK addition, but not great. 2 of the 3 just stand at the other end of the map spawning extra enemies on top of the regular mission, a bit lame. To defeat them finally, you have to go through a very bulletspongy endrun, that was not enjoyable either. Game also had a runtime which is a bit too long per run for my taste. to the devs: Fix the bug which deletes the ironman save when the game crashes!!! for the rest: great game.
I love Xcom EU, so was happy with more Xcom when this announced :) I enjoy XCOM 2, but less so than EU: - You get WAY too much notifications - Maps are random generated and are ok, but after a while feel also very generic. - Load times are a tad long. I don't think that the game is too hard as some commented (comes from a guy who did 70 runs on I/I in EU, 95% fails). What does tick me off is that you might encounter a bug playing in Ironman (you only have one save) which ERASES your save. Not fun when you're 15 hours in on the highest difficulty. I've had it in EU too, but only twice on 80 games. In XCOM 2, I had it on my third run... That should have been fixed a long time ago (-1 point of for that)
The good: - Xcom on PS Vita, nice to have it portable. And I loved Xcom: Enemy Unknown on PS3 - Includes the Enemy Within expansion, so a lot of content The bad: - Graphics look at times awful, especially when firing rockets or the "special" effects of the aliens when firing - Some (new) gameplay bugs, which is troublesome as the game encourages you to play on Ironman (so with one save (and for me it's also the best way to enjoy the game) and punishes you for your mistakes. So when one of my units is behind cover and tosses a grenade, it shouldn't step out of cover for the rest of the turn as is the case with the Vita version...
Almost did not play this game due to the mostly negative reviews, but very glad I did try it. It had a 7 hour running time and it was very well paced. I far enjoy that over a game with longer running time and 50%+ of the time being filler... I liked the weapons and I loved the setting. The story isn't groundbreaking, but gets the job done. And no, there is no multiplayer and the replayability is limited, but if you take it for what it is (a great single player adventure), you should be quite happy with what you'll get.
Positives: - game looks great Negatives: - Too much reused assets from previous games, major parts of the game feels so déjà vu (although partially intentional by the developers). In general a lack of originality. Going through another lookalike version of Valley of Defilement or catacombs gets old. - Story is too obscure. If there's no or very few info available in the game, you don't bother anymore why you are fighting the next boss or what they're doing there in the first place - Exploration needs to be more rewarding. 90% of the items you'll find you'll never use, so why bother in the end? - NPCs are too hard to find. The game seems to expect you recheck every nook and cranny of each past area each time you've beaten a boss to find them. - Lack **** music score (also a problem with the previous two DAS games). DES had such great music (opening theme, tower knight, etc).
Having gotten this game via PS+ and not knowing anything about it, I had no clue what to expect. But it was a very pleasant surprise. Game works great on Vita and I love the artstyle, music and gameplay. I can highly recommend it to everyone. Only thing that holds me back from giving it a 10 is a technical hickup where hacking multiple drones (option that becomes available later on) renders the game unplayable due to huge drops in performance. But this is only a minor issue, loved the game for the rest and when already multiple times through it.
Got this game via PS+ and didn't really know what to expect, but was very happily surprised. It's a great mix of genres (action/puzzle/platform) with really beautiful graphics. Superb humour too! Good (Dutch) localisation effort in general. I can highly recommend it for your PSV collection!
First of all, I did play the original game on the PS1, so I did already know this game. The game has not aged well, but it's still a fun experience. For those that don't know it, it's a first person shooter with lots of hidden secrets to discover, enjoyable damage to enemies and minor obscenities. The version they have made for the Vita is very well executed. Controls are far better and more accurate than the original Playstation version and the saving system (where you can rewind in time when you die) is fantastic. It's nice they have also added the multiplayer, but that's not the best part of the package, this game really shines in single player.
Fantastic game to play on the go. First the negatives: - There is a lot of filler content in the game - It can get a bit boring after a few hours in the game because your options and customisations are still limited at that time, which makes the fights all rather straightforward. - I only found out after 50 hours of playing that you can actually skip the skill movies by pressing R1. Might not seem significant but you get annoyed if you have to watch the same animation for the 500th time. - Story is nothing exceptional, but that goes for most RPG's the positives: - Looks pretty good visually. - Hard game at times, but a very good learning curve. I like my games challenging. - End game content is where this game really shines. You have a lot of customisation options at that point and the fighting really becomes based on skill more than based on levelling. And the game really opens up, exploring is very rewarding at that point. So if you are into traditional RPG's, I'd definitely recommend this game
Considering the price tag (0.00€), this game is certainly worth it's value. There's a very good aircraft tree and the coöp missions are very fun to play. Emergency missions add variety. Solo campaign is unfortunately less inspired, but you'll be spending most time online in coöp anyway. You can really get far without paying anything, as long as you do some of the challenges and not intend to play it more than 1 hour per day.
To start out, this game is a worthy successor in the DeS/DaS series. Ambiance of this game is amazing, as well as all surprises that are awaiting you when exploring the world. There have been some (very good) evolutions in the gameplay mechanic too, especially when it comes to dual wielding and jumping compared to DaS1. The whole player summoning/invading experience has also been streamlined to perfection, nearly no technical glitches (as was unfortunately the case in Demon's Souls). Only thing I did not favor was the story and characters. You meet characters but there's not really a lot of evolution in them through the storyline compared to previous games (Ostrava/Praise the Sun). And for the story, half the time you come out of an area beating up enemies but having no clue on the background of the area or the enemy. This was already the case in DaS1 but here's area for improvement. But still, it's a relatively minor note, the game is well worth the time you spend into it, so highly recommended.
This game is a fantastic adaption of the game serieus. RPG mechanics and fighting are well worked out, though by the end I found you got to strong and you won too easily, but that's a relatively minor issue. What it truely nails is the sense of humour. Many games try to be funny, but only this game and Portal 2 have every really nailed it for me. So I can highly recommend this game to anyone, even if they're not a fan of the series.
First of all, game looks great. I like the artstyle and the effort they put into the narrator especially, you can definitely feel the love of the devs for the game there. However, gameplay wise it's not my cup of tea. Could be because of the small vita screen but I found it hard to keep track of the action going on or even where the main controlled character was. Actions of your main character don't even seem to matter that much, if you select high level team mates they get the job done easily enough without you it seems. Gave it a try for a couple of hours but no lasting appeal for me.
A game I can recommend to anyone who owns a Vita. Pretty graphics, very fun and varied combat and fun and challenging but (mainly) manageable platforming. Only negative point, there are 2 or 3 sequences where the platforming is really requiring you to make nearly impossible combinations on the main path, but otherwise a very enjoyable experience.
Just to be clear on my review, I didn't bother with the single player, as there was few effort put into that of BF3 to my experience and I read it was the same thing with BF4, so I spent my time on multiplayer. Now, the multiplayer is pretty good, but all in all I find the experience VERY similar to that of BF3. Just other weapons and slightly bigger maps. BF4 online servers are OK but not fantastic as per stability and bugs (I still fell through a map or had a few gamefreezes). There has been a lot of talk about levolution in BF4, but I can't say I wasn't overwhelmed with what I saw... So all in all, if you have the option, go for BF3, it's the better game at the moment at the lower price.
Been playing the game for a few hours now, but I'm not really getting into this game. It's doing a few good things (impact of weapons, ok graphics), but there are older games of which these things seem taken off and in which games these traits or mechanics were worked out better than in DI:R. eg face animations can be seen in Fallout, surroundings in Farcry etc. Voice acting isn't overly great though and not in sync with voice animations. Too much grinding and repetitiveness of the combat too. They'd need to improve on the formula to get me interested.
First of all, stellar production values put into this game. It's truely on par with the PS3 singleplayer experiences on the graphical part, which is a thing the game deserves praise for. However, it's also very similar for the rest to the console games, ie gameplay isn't that super and really can get tedious. One of the few games that would've benefited from a shorter campaign in my opion, it really drags on (ie cutscene, fight, climb, climb, fight, climb, cutscene, climb etc). It tries to make use of the functionalities of the vita, but except for the dragging screen mechanic for the climbing (which is an improvement), the other stuff used feel gimmicky (eg holding your game against a bright light can seem fun, but not at the start of a train ride in which the light wasn't bright enough and I couldn't get up to go wave my vita against a light anyway... It is after all a portable console). But good for one playthrough, not really that much left to discover after it.
Not really overwhelmed with this game. Looks like a Mario Kart knock-off, but than with Sega characters. Notable, I haven't played much Sega games so can't really relate to the majority of the characters, I guess it must have a different feel if you feel related to them, but I don't. Looks colorful (which I like). Luck plays however an important part. I only played singleplayer and one race you can win buy just racing and the next you do the same thing but you get blasted by every pursuer in the row which gets you from position 1 to 8 fairly quickly, not so fond of that type of gameplay. So overall a very meh experience for me.
For the record, I played DMC1 and DMC3 and enjoyed them very much I had low expectations of this game given the shown trailers, but found it a very enjoyable experience. The story, very much in line with the series, is again completely non-sensical, even if it tries to take itself seriously. The fighting, which is the core of every DMC game, is actually better than in other DMC games. The customisation has been tuned down a bit, but there were very few people who could master 8+ different weapons and their combo's anyway (as in DMC3). So it's a good thing they simplified it. Combo's have been streamlined in between weapons, which makes them a lot more logical to execute. There are at times also tips given on how to deal with certain times of ennemies, but very gradually which is a welcome change. The characters: The main antagonist is actually pretty well crafted and believable, but you can't say the same of Dante. For the main character, he's incredibly childish and non-believable. There are however a few pretty good jokes hidden in the game, but there's also a lot of 14 year old chatter. Graphics are OK, but design quality varies greatily in between levels. There are a few masterpieces of design in the game, but there are also a few questionable (albeit original designed) and tasteless decision choices on two bosses (in my opinion), which was a bit offsetting. But all in all, a good experience.
First of all to be clear, I am a huge fan of the predecessor, Demon's Souls. It's for me the game that showed the power of the capabilities (not just graphically) of a PS3 versus a PS2. Dark Souls is wilder, more beautiful and more technically advanced (esp for the multiplayer part) than Demon's Souls, so it definitely improves on the formula. It's a great game, which has challenging bosses, great customisation options and is overall a great adventure. There are for me however two issues which ruin the experience a bit: - There are a lot of secrets in the game, but they are hidden a bit too well. You will need to read up on internet to discover them, especially since they hide some of the more interesting items. If you want to survive the multiplayer aspect of the game (ie when invading or invaded) and you face someone with items/spells you don't know (other people do read up), you will most likely lose most of the time. - The damage you receive can be very arbitrary, which doesn't make sense for a game that wants you to learn from your mistakes. Example: I fight a boss. I see the boss is going to hit so I raise my (very strong) shield. As my stamina was low, the boss his hit breaks through my shield and deals 800 hit points and KO for me. On the next try on that boss, when attacking him, he also hits me three times consecutively dealing only 400 hit points together... Some balance is lost within the game versus Demon's Souls, which is a pity. Overall, still a fantastic experience though.
I have played a lot of games this year, but Far Cry 3 was definitely the game that kept me enjoyed far longer than any other game I have played. Overall, a very beautiful game. I really enjoyed in general the contrast between the (at times fairly grim) story and the sunny landscape. Ubisoft really made work of creating original antagonists and put some nice variation in the main storyline. So in short, a very enjoyable & lengthy single player campaign. Multiplayer is split in two parts. There is the (online) coöp multiplayer which also presents a (shallow) story which lets you go through a new campaign with four players. Quite enjoyable overall and good difficulty rating. Than there is the competitive MP, there are some variations but you can find the majority of the players in team deathmatch. Overall, there are at times a few technical difficulties (long loading times, screen freeze) but in general well worked out.
Gameplay: imagine a GTA mission, but with a truely out of the ordinary (and not it an positive way) twist, to the point that it becomes almost bland. The game just throws the most crazy weapons/vehicles/characters at you, but without a single layer of depth. It's like a 10-year old could decided on the stuff that was put into the game. Horrible sense of humour too. Graphics are also extremely mediocre. Not that they could have made it on a PS2, but it isn't really that much better than the best visuals on a PS2.
Have to say, started this game with low expectations because I had somewhere understood this was a racer. Was I wrong ... In short, superb game. Creative design, very original and playful story (albeit a bit incomprehensive at times). Gameplay is fun too. It also doesn't make the mistake to throw you way too much alternative activities to drag things out, very well balanced. Special credits to the music too, especially the pleasure district tune. Go get this if you haven't already!
On the plus side of this game, graphics look good. However, that's about the only thing going for the game. Most of what is so stunningly shown, is just pure visceral violence. Now a bit I don't mind, but if the emphasis in a game is too much on gore, it just means to hide other issues in general in my experience. For example for this game: lack of a decent story, lack of a decent tutorial & lack of depth in gameplay in general
Is the Last of Us a good game? No, it's a fantastic game. Graphics are good, gameplay is good and cinemathics are even better. So why do I rate it a six? Because I continue to have new bugs popping up, which is not normal for a game which is out for more than half a year. At 50% of the game, I got a black screen that didn't move on after the initial "the last of us" startup screen. After 4 retries and a playstation software update it worked again. At 60% of the game, a cinematic didn't work properly so had to skip it. At 85% of the game new cinematic that didn't work properly and crashed my ps3. After restart I could only get past it after skipping the movie. Shortly after, new cinematic which didn't work and since than after starting up the game it halts at either 0 or 15% of the game being loaded. So now again online to find a fix for it, real bummer cus the game is for the rest superb.
Great game, technically advanced and a well paced adventure all in all. Decent replayability too due to the different unlockable weapons and hidden items.
