27 Dresses

I'd like to start this review making a point that one would think is obvious. '27 Dresses' is a rom-com. It is the most typical rom-com you will find. Anyone who gave this a bad reviews obviously doesn't like rom-coms. It is filled to the brim with cliches and I imagine that most people can predict the entire plot of the film within the first twenty minutes. Despite this, I like romantic comedies. They are brainless, fun and pass the time. As they go, this is the perfect rom-com; it was well written, has an adorable ending and has two or three particularly funny gags. I'm not saying this film is amazing, because it's not; there are plenty of moments where there are no good jokes and it could easily be funnier with a better script. What I'm saying is that if a person likes chick-flicks/ rom-coms, they will almost certainly enjoy this film.

'In Bruges' is my third favourite film of all time and there's a reason for that- the dialogue is witty, the performances very strong and the plot is brilliant. Colin Farrell gives the gives performance of his career and Ralph Fiennes is both menacing and hilarious. It's not for everyone since it is very violent, but if you like comedy-thrillers you should definitely check it out.

A movie with Michael Cera and Frankie Muniz? Count me in! Who's it written by? Oh, the writers of 'Not Another Teen Movie. In that case... The film is not only unfunny and badly made, but the actors are given a terrible script which ruins their performances and the film-makers mistake humour with offending people. To sum up the film, I'll tell you the funniest joke- Michael Cera tries to **** an old lady. Yeah, hilarious. Hit anyone who wants to watch this movie, burn every single copy and assassinate the Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson!

Detention

The main problem with 'Detention' is that the plot is completely mixed up. It starts off as a really good slasher film (which I really liked), then (with a third of the film left) they get put in Detention, and then it become this weird and badly made sci-fi adventure. If it had just stuck to the slasher part of the film, it could have been brilliant. It was witty, well-acted and the reveal of the murderer was entertaining, it's just the plotless plot that ruins it. Good if you want to pass the time and discuss it with a friend, but it's not really that good (unfortunately.

A note for anyone make a sequel to a film. Step one: keep the lead actor. Step two: keep the same writer. Step three: keep the same director. Step four: keep the same age rating. These are the ways to not horrifically mess up a sequel. Every single one of my golden rules were broken and the result was this badly made, unfunny, stupidly acted waste of money. There are two mildly amusing moments involving the baby that stopped this rating being 0, but there is still no point whatsoever is watching this film. If you liked 'The Mask', don't watch this movie. If you like comedy, don't watch this movie. If you like life, don't watch this movie!

Matthew Lillard is a good actor (see Scream) and Seth Green is quite a good voice actor (see Family Guy, Robot Chicken ect.) and yet both (especially Green) acted horrifically. It's painful to watch; I think I smiled weakly once. Just a badly made, terrible film.

Oh dear. The only thing worse than an unfunny rom-com is by trying to make the film more appealing by adding in pointless, sexist nudity scenes and more unfunny but puerile gags. It gets two more points than it deserves because I smiled three times and Dane Cook, Jessica Alba and Dan Fogler at least tried (a bit). Still, you'd think that Jessica Alba is too good for these types of films by now, but no. Avoid at all costs.

Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost are the ultimate dream team; 'Shaun of the Dead' is hilariously acted, intelligently directed (using Wright's signature short clips sequence) and well written. The characters are believable and there are even one or two genuinely scary moments. This film must be watched by all comedy-horror fans.

Robert Rodriguez has made some good and bad films in his career, so one has the right to be unsure of whether to see this film or not. However, the very appealing cast persuaded me to watch 'Sin City', and I'm very glad I did. The cast were excellent, the dialogue strong (although sometimes a little cheesy, which I didn't mind) and the effects were breathtakingly brilliant. It is stylistic, sometimes funny, well-acted and all together, a fantastic film. An absolute 'must-see'!
