Dune: Part Two4
Apr 13, 2024
Did the film makers read the book? There is very little science fiction in this film. They fight with knives and the reason for that is mostly left out. It totally leaves out the Spacing Guild which makes the importance of the spice unclear. It comes across as Lawrence of Arabia meets, I dunno, The Princess Bride. It was loud and it was long but it wasn't great.

All I can say is WTF? As one reviewer noted, this is more about the director than Elvis.

As in most biopics, it took a bit to get past the fact that these are actors playing the real people. However, once past that, I really enjoyed this film. I'm not generally a huge Kidman fan but she does a fantastic job here. By the end, she is Lucy. Bardem has the easier task since Desi's character is the same on and off the set. The reviewer who gave this a 40 and all the user reviews giving it a thumbs down must have watched a different movie. Although it has some laughs, this is not actually a comedy but a slice of Desilu, off the set. All the minor characters were very good especially J K Simmons as William Frawley. I liked it a lot.

Unwatchable. I expected it to be bad but I thought I might like watching Gal Gadot for an hour or so. The first time you see her she is wearing a mask. I don't know when you see her again because I turned it off after twenty minutes.

Should be called "Wonder" as in it makes me wonder how they got A list actors to be involved with this. I guess that gives it credibility it doesn't deserve. I'll watch anything with Tommy Lee Jones. Guess he needed the money. So ... paranoid thriller, actual conspiracy or psychotic episode? Who cares? My biggest complaint is that after 30 minutes, I had to turn on Closed Captioning as I had trouble making out half the dialogue. Poor sound editing in a low budget mess. If you've got nothing better do, go ahead but it's a waste of time.

Surprise. Another film that critics hated because it has a conservative POV. If you don't blame society for all woes and vote Democrat, I CAN"T HEAR YOU! Glenn Close, Amy Adams and Gabriel Basso are all tremendous in their roles.

A movie that tells the truth about the Democrats. The party of slavery, lynching and Jim Crow. No wonder so many critics gave it a bad review. I quite liked it.

Why is the Federation so militarily inept? I realize they are primarily on a science mission or so they say but in this case it's a rescue mission. A young captain takes a gazillion dollar star ship into unknown location. No scouts,no combat air patrol? The space city Yorktown apparently has neither, as well, and is unaware of an attack until it's upon them. Other than that, pretty entertaining, I suppose. Neither great nor terrible.

The Big Short1
Jul 12, 2016
This is a film that critics think you should like and convince themselves that they loved. In reality, it comes close to **** completely. Except for a couple of decent performances, it does **** completely. There is no actual suspense since, like Apollo 13, you already know what happened. The cool dudes who were ahead of the curve are no more honest or decent than those the film is attacking. It takes its outrage out on Wall **** only peripherally includes how dishonest the Democrats who shamefully and cynically created the sub prime mortgage problem and the bankers (Republicans) who, along with Hillary's buddies, gleefully profited from them. The sound in this movie is horrible, going from an overly loud rap and metal soundtrack to barely audible conversations. If you're watching it at home, keep the remote close. This movie is a smug failure.

Available on Amazon Prime, I'm glad I didn't pay to see this in the theater. Expecting great visuals, we instead get long shaky cam scenes that might as well have been Star Trek TV episodes of anonymous, red shirted crewmen bouncing off of walls, space shots that we've all seen before and a very confused script. Any attempt to create tension was forced and tedious. My butt hurts. Totally boring mess of a film.

Danny Collins1
Dec 1, 2015
Released for free on Amazon Prime, I gave this a go last night. This is one of those situations where I wonder if other reviewers and I watched the same film. The premise, intriguing, is wasted by turning it from what might have been an interesting transformation in someone who has wasted his considerable artistic potential for a successful sell out career in schlock and instead veers into a horribly cliched family drama. Pacino is never believable in this role as an aging rock star. He chews the scenery a bit and overacts, as he usually does these days, but never convinces that he is actually a musician. The few on stage moments are embarrassingly bad, albeit as they are intended to be but in way not intended. The few scenes in which he is writing songs at the piano never convince that this guy could ever sing, making Dylan and Cohen sound like Pavarotti. Plummer does a fine job as Danny's friend and manager, Benning's character makes no sense and while the family is adorable and the considerably able supporting cast does their best, they can't really make up for the hole in the middle of this film. Pacino is miscast as Danny Collins unless having someone look like an aging, over the top mafioso doing karaoke was the aim of the director. If making Yoko Ono a few bucks on the soundtrack was the intention, maybe this films score but, to me, Danny Collins is a muddle at best and the "what if" premise is wasted completely. The movie would have worked as well or as badly without it.
