The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo4
Jan 6, 2012
If you have seen the original, and I recommend it very highly you will find this American remake laughable. While it is loudly distracting with bass heavy music, and a highly expensive overdone opening, it is never so disappointing as when they take a strong representation of blind justice and insult you by rewriting her as subservient and submissive in order to actually appeal to you as a watcher. As if the book's and original film's version of this character's character were too impossible to grasp. It is a Disneyland version of a very good book and original film Thpppp. Big fat raspberry. A visual 8, a storyline 1.

The Double Hour4
May 28, 2011
The only reason I sat on the edge of my seat during The Double Hour was in hopes of being wrong in my suspicions, and those being that I most likely had just wasted the spend-y price of admission. I would liken it to being at Keeneland during the horse races, and having bet way too much on a promising long shot. I'm shouting, again from the edge of said seat, for my horse to please move it's slow butt across the finish line. Only the horse like the movie never quite makes it. Your hopes are high, but in the end, you're holding a stub of paper, incredulous and saddened, having just wasted a good bit of money on something you were sure was going to come in.

Laughed until I cried, just about the whole way through. Not a chick-flick either. The guy sitting next to me came by himself. I think we both nearly wet ourselves we laughed so hard. Hysterical!!

Barney's Version9
Jan 15, 2011
So worth the full price of a weekend ticket. I gravitate toward movies that take me from my own life, have a solid beginning/middle/END and especially if they do, with great impact, what their classification of movie genre encompasses; If it's a comedy I want to laugh, HARD. If a horror film, I want to be scared witless, and scream. This movie delivers everything and more of what it promises. Barney is complex and endlessly engaging, his life is symphonic. He's not the devil, he's no angel. He's you and me. I laughed out loud, I cried irrepressible tears, I held my head at the ears with that 'o gosh, no no no, not that', I flushed with anger and sighed resting into intense sweetness. I hope you'll go see it, and hope you are transported. As I was.

Burlesque4

Thppppppp, generally speaking, with a scant few !!!!! all during truly electric dance numbers, which in and of themselves were very electric and !!!!! worthy. But the story is trite. The talents of Cher -- who so wowed us in Moonstruck -- and of Stanley Tucci -- who so wowed us in about everything he's ever done -- are painfully benched. It's just gum in your hair torture finally to watch unfold the lead in for Cher's 2nd and final number - like someone threw a discarded decorative pillow haphazardly back on random couch to get it up off the floor. Your attention to her number is rudely interrupted by the guy in your head shouting, "O. COME. ON!!" There's more I suppose, but you get the point being made. To go see this, first set your expectations. You are going for the sole purpose of seeing a dance concert. Grab your popcorn, your hearty sense of good humor for bad schtick and your mantinee ticket ( you smart cookie, you ) and go enjoy.
