The systems and combat are well made but I skipped through the story as quick as I could. Cat puns aren't for me but the gameplay is very fun.

This game is great. I never played the Katamari games growing up and getting around to it now made me firmly believe older games are, in fact, better

The game works when it allows experimentation and a slow, methodical approach to puzzle solving. The departure from that in the last quarter was jarring and left me longing for the structure of placing commands exclusively, but was by no means a bad part of the game. The last two core fights were excellent, and the presentation of the game as a whole is well-done. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes puzzle games.

Lake

Lake allowed me to live out the dream of quitting my job, moving back to my hometown, and becoming a mailman. After so many dramatic, hard-hitting titles like God of War, Elden Ring, and the Witness, it was nice to turn my brain off for a few hours, deliver some mail, and create relationships with the people of Providence Oaks. The soundtrack went from good to repetitive and annoying to great; by the end I was excited to listen to "Positive or Pet Peeve" that started my morning. Playing Lake made me want to play more games like Lake, even if only once in a while. The simplicity of gameplay makes it easy to pick up and put down, the supporting cast is written believably, and the tone of a small town in 1986 made me nostalgic for a time before I was born.

I can't say a bad thing about this game, it has everything I could want. Phenomenal soundtrack, great story with themes from Greek mythology, and quotes/moments that gave me enough chills to go back through and play this game again and again. I'd recommend this game to anyone and everyone, even if it's not for everyone. Fantastic.

Inside should be the gold standard for wordless storytelling. Every environment and detail feels intentional, the puzzles are challenging enough to emit the feeling of accomplishment when figured out, and the soundtrack brings it all together for a well-revered puzzle platforming classic.

Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories

Disaster report 4: Summer Memories is a bit of a disaster itself. It's good for the first little while when you talk about all the goofy choices the game gives you in conversation, but without any real direction or meaningful plot, it feels a lot more like an earthquake simulator than a real game. I'd like to personally apologize to anybody who payed full price for this game, but I **** the PS Plus Extra for Stray and this game came with it. I got about an hour of enjoyment out of it, and from what I'm seeing there isn't much past that.

I am Dead is slow-paced, good vibes experience about dying. Themes of legacy and the afterlife persist throughout, and a cliffhanger ending to the main story I saw from a mile away. This is a good game, but maybe not as good considering it was played between God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok.

While this isn't my favorite game ever made, it may very well be the best-made game I've ever played. This game is something special: a masterclass of scenery, story, and downright fun. A game hasn't had me lose track of time in the way God of War did and still does. I played it in preparation for Ragnarok in a week and the sequel could just be this exact game with a new story and I'll be happy. This game should be in everyone's top 5, and many people's top 1. Anybody who criticizes this game is looking to be different or looking to troll. Just wow. 10/10

Trombone Champ is aggressively fine in the sense that the whole game plays on a single, well-executed joke. This is not a game to be taken seriously, and although I don't see myself playing for much longer, that single joke was memorable.

Deliver Us The Moon

Deliver us the moon asks the right questions at an important time in human history. The writing and voice acting is well done, the atmosphere and music are spot on, and the puzzles were enjoyable the first time I went through them. The issue with the game is the pacing, which is impressive for a five hour game. The puzzle repeat themselves too often, and it seldom felt rewarding to finish a new problem or mechanic. Cinematically, the game feels great. Minute-to-minute, however, the gameplay presents more of a fidget tool while you hunt down the story elements. I'd recommend it, but it needs to be the kind of person who can deal with a slow burn story and repetitive gameplay elements.

Stray
5
User ScoreHorjus
Aug 26, 2022
Stray is by no means a bad game. It stars a world built excellently and a soundtrack that kept me interested. My main issue with the game is there feels like there is no trust in the player to experience the game in the same way a Journey or Abzu would be experienced. The robot dialogue holds the hand of the player to the point of irritation; the most memorable parts of the game were those without tedious dialogue to get through and the wordless interactions with many of the characters. Beyond that, this game feels weirdly unfinished. A lack of animation for simple things like putting on a robe, walking up stairs, and rounding corners (and other weird cat bugs) had me scratching my head. I also thought it was odd how many people (robots) were willing to lay down their lives for a stray cat. 5/10, pretty middle of the road game for me. When the dust settles and people start seeing this game for what it really is, I have a feeling a lot of people will agree.

A good kart-racing game that adds a few of its own features to differentiate it from the usual suspects. These features run together to make a snappy, fun experience overall. The gameplay of it rocks, but without kickass music or story to bring me back, its only good for a single playthrough. I'm glad I played the game, but it's not game of the year or anything.

This game really went the extra mile in making sure I knew what it was like to be a farmer. I can't say I enjoyed it, but it put the fantasies I occasionally have about living a simpler life out of my head. It can't be a zero because messing around for 20 minutes was fun enough, but 20 minutes is going to be all this game ever gets from me.

Hotline Miami goes pretty hard in terms of music, story, and gameplay. It runs crisp, I still listen to the soundtrack casually, and wow is this game hard. It made me wish I was better at the game every time I cheesed my way through a level. 8/10 but its mostly a bad player 8/10.

Days Gone

User ScoreHorjus
May 1, 2022
Days gone is one of the most disappointing experiences with a video game. The only reason I give 2 stars is for the two good scenes throughout the game: taking boozer to lost lake and the resolution to the Ripper arc. Other than that the game is filled with tedious, unmemorable, repeating missions that make the story feel distant from what is actually being played. It feels like the developers decided that longer games are better so they send you on back to back to back to back fetch quests where you fight freakers, get a different flavor of boss (big guys, bear, crows), wash rinse and repeat. If this game had half the missions but they decided to only include the ones that progress the story, it'd be a good game. I don't personally care about graphics so I can't in good conscience let that increase the score. I don't care about bugs either though; most of them were pretty enjoyable. I'm not going to recommend this game to anyone, but I'm going to brag about how I finished this 30+ hour slog of a main story.

The only real issue I have with this game is that the story is mostly (except that one part, you know the one) generic and un-memorable. Controls are fantastic, gameplay is fantastic, I recommend this game to just about everyone. A really great follow up to "A Way Out" that allows for new video game players to experience the magic that a lot of more serious players seek.
