If you never played this game, now is the moment to experience a story that made me think, cry and laugh. Challenging and fluent combat that - on suitable difficulty - makes you think and adapt without being trapped in a soulslike. Honestly, I played pretty much all the 90+ rated RPG's since then, and in over 10 years few came close to this one. If you played it, you know it's a gem - my impression after the first 15 hours: Now it's been polished and perfected. They added some really cool options, and I enjoy the tweaks to the skill tree.

Playing together is tons of fun. Difficulty, complexity, goofiness start off manageable for mostly everyone, and the pace of progress is well connected to advancing player capabilities and understanding. So, you can bruteforce a lot of things through stats - slowly -, or you work out the intricacies of attack canceling and minmaxing. Therefore, you're bound to have a blast whether you are a Sekiro / Hollowknight guy like me or a 'havels armor' only guy like my bro. To whom it may concern: Maybe don't buy it for your little girls if you haven't educated them to git gud.

10.6.: If you worry about the technical state of the game, it's already way better than on release, there have been two big patches within a couple of days, and now it feels fine. So trust the PC user review average over PS5 user average, this one is **** because day 1 technical issues. Gameplay itself is amazing. You can make decisions. Every single one matters somehow. You will die a lot. And feel like the weak little **** you are at the start. Getting stronger is work. And it feels great when you get there, nugget by nugget. What else? Ppl who complain about new lockpicking dislike logic puzzles. If you are capable of basic logic thinking, it's quite fun.

Edit: I've seen just two kinds of criticisms 1) 'it's not balanced' - it is, it is just hard and to create diversity in runs, there is RNG, but decisions matter way more, to bring out synergy in ever-changing challenges 2) 'it's unethical' - yeah, sometimes games represent fiction; e.g., if the thought of giving your used cat to what is most likely a psychopathic zoophile in a videogame feels unbearable, the game is probably not for you My take: You build a base. You go through rogue-like runs in a challenging tactical setting. You discover amazing synergies, encounters, mutations that keep you hooked, fascinated and I caught myself saying 'Wow', 'Damn', 'so cool, that this works like that' many times. The start isn't that difficult, so it's quite accessible. And it ramps up to the point where pretty much everyone will feel the mental exercise between optimizing home and optimzing grid-control. Now add bizarre humor and feline torture - and you are good to go.

Great game, great visuals, you wanna keep playing. It's mostly an interactive graphic novel with superheroes and coming to terms with your biography and feelings in a fun and challenging way. When it's not you do some puzzle-solving missions, trying to mismatch your misfits into hopefully not failing the next job spectacularly. 'You've done better than 1% of the players in your last session.' Why not a 10? There are choices. Some of them difficult. A few actually create different outcomes. Most of them only feel like they matter, though. Replaying the game I got bored fast.

Great game. First time playing it. Having a blast. Some people just review bombing because 1) some feature they like is missing or 2) they don't understand English. Everyone else is having a banger time, including me. Here's to you having an amazing time too, with deep combat mechanics, loving artwork and an intriguing story.

Simple story: You have the patience to get good and you'll be rewarded with an amazing experience. If difficulty spikes annoy you easily, you'll put it away frustrated. Probably you'll put it away frustrated a couple of times even if you are motivated but you will feel the urge to come back again and again and feel better every time.

For those who come after: I went into this game with the highest of expectations because it already had the highest metacritic user score .. ever. Am I a changed man? I don't think so. Did I laugh, cry and sweat a lot? Indeed I did. It is an astounding game and it plugs on a certain string that seems to me almost universally human. Therefore, I believe, everyone can connect and love this game.

It's a great game. Stunning visuals like to be expected with Square Enix entries, a lot of things to like: fights are fun and varied, exploration is enjoyable (open world Zelda style), characters grow on you, music is great. A metric ton of minigames, and 9/10 are actually cool (fck them moogles though). Why not a 10? I'm not in love with the game. It's a very good game. Period. Some things that don't click with me - my characters never feel like getting stronger, neither the weapons nor the materia nor level ups give me that feeling like 'oh boy, now i hit harder'. It's more like streamlined with the story. Also personally it's way too easy, where I feel there is room for a lof of experimentation and depth in the combat system but no reason to delve into it because I can solve almost everything with dodge and parry if I do it reasonably well. Update: Over time, it all became a chore to me. I never fully connected with the story because there is another map you're supposed to explore for hours. Another minigame that feels like an entire game. Like it's hard to put into words but it starts to drag on and the longer it drags on the less connected you feel to your party and the more you just want the game to end. Like in the last third I started to skip all optional content because I felt if they threw something else at me again that would sidetrack me for hours on end I would start to hate the game or stop playing. It's so weird because I want to like the game and there is so much to like about the game but it's like a dessert with so many different sugary additions that the first bites are super tasty and after a while you start getting nauseous and don't want another bite.

Lost me at the start. Like I don't even get to the open world, I'm just riding through one snowy, linear level after another and it bores me. I don't need a cinematic view to ride a horse for minutes. Picking up things feels so slow and clunky. I don't have options in dialogues. Mabye it gets better later but it's not motivating me to get to later. Sad. I would have liked to love the game.

I am currently sitting at 200+ hours. Usually I don't play games more than once, this one I finished three times in a row. After the first one I wanted to improve time management, after the second I wanted to go for highest difficulty. Love fighting (versatility and adaptability), progression (i feel stronger in the right ways), villain (convincing, memorable and well-written bad guy), soundtrack (what a banger, didn't even know I'd like that genre). Only downside is lack of mage academy, IYKYK.

Fascinating gem! Gameplay: Intuitive, easy to pickup, challenging to master, a lot of possible combinations and surprising depth. Visuals: Quite adorable. While being able to keep track of what's happening. Soundtrack: Wont get dull. If you like strategy games it's a new take. If you didn't like strategy games before this might change things (actually did for a FIFA and CoD friend of mine).
