Retro Studios has proven its mettle in making good games, such as Metroid Prime. This game, however, is their greatest achievement. Reviving the classic Donkey Kong Country games was probably no easy task, but they pulled it off spectacularly. Not only does it look and sound great, it retains the challenge too (I'm looking at you, minecart levels).

I really enjoy this game, but I'm sad to see that Nintendo has reused graphics, sound effects and music from New Super Mario Bros and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Even the final boss theme is recycled from the Wii game, which is inexcusable. Nintendo, please don't do what EA does with Madden; think of a more creative idea.

Angry Birds Space takes the tried-and-true mechanic of past Angry Birds installments and puts it in space. Each planet has it's own gravity, a la Super Mario Galaxy, and it makes destroying the green pigs a tad more difficult, thus making it more rewarding for you when you complete a particularly difficult stage. The graphics are a vast improvement from Angry Birds Rio, and the backgrounds are gorgeous. While the new Ice Bird seems useless (at least to me), you can't help but to be charmed by the jabber of the birds (also, let's not forget about the Eggsteroids bonus levels, some of which pay homage to classics like Super Mario Bros. and Space Invaders.

Kid Icarus: Uprising
10
User ScoreBlogDog123

Playing Uprising feels like taking a breath of fresh air after being in a cave for a long time; it's cool and refreshing. While the control scheme may take a few minutes to get used to, it works beautifully when you get used to it. The graphics are console-quality, but a tiny bit of bad textures get in the way sometimes. The story is gripping, and it keeps it at a light-hearted tone due to the silly chatting between characters on the bottom screen (complete with solid voice-acting). If you don't at least chuckle at the frequent Nintendo game references and the awesomely bad puns, than you obviously have no soul. With a crap-ton of achievements, idols (think trophies from Super Smash Bros. Brawl), and weapons, Kid Icarus: Uprising is definitely worth the price and your time.

This is the best ZENONIA game to date. The graphics are vastly superior to the series previous installments, and the PvP/Arena modes have been improved greatly. While it may suffer from a steep learning curve (you will DEFINITELY be frustrated by boss battles) and an extremely typical story, it all makes up for compelling action and it's price: which is free.

I was hoping that maybe Zenonia 3 would be a third-times-the-charm experience, which, in the most part, it is. It still maintains the fourth-wall humor and flashy graphics, but it's plagued by an action which haunts many RPGs today: level-grinding.

This is one of DSiWare's best games. It's also pretty meaty for only 200 points. You get three maps on three difficulty levels (Normal, Hard, and Scream), 5 playable characters (choosing them have no effect on gameplay however), and 80 "survival records" to be found (think achievements). The graphics are a matter of taste; I like the chunky, blocky look of zombies and characters, but other might be turned away. There is no reason you shouldn't own this.

Jan 31, 2012
This entire game can be summarized in three words: a true masterpiece. I enjoyed it's sequel a lot, but the plumber's first galaxy adventure is arguably even better. Gorgeous graphics and a sweeping, beautiful orchestral score heighten the sheer greatness. Sure, the story is ok (you know, Bowser kidnaps Peach; but this time, he wants to rule the universe), but no one really plays a Mario platformer for the story; they play it for nostalgia and creative, original gameplay. Not only is Super Mario Galaxy one of the best Wii games (up there with Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Paper Mario), it's also one of the greatest games ever to grace the video game market.

This is the second best Mario Kart game to date (Mario Kart 64 is still the best). The wide selection of new and retro tracks are teeming with details, and the 3D really brings the game to life. Also innovating for the franchise is customizable karts; something I hope Nintendo will do for future Mario Kart titles. The only reason this doesn't get a 10 is because it's not completely flawless: CPU attacks can feel frustratingly cheap and collecting coins to unlock more parts for karts takes a tad too long.

While I enjoyed the first few hours of play time, things seriously slow down to a crawl. Some of the playfields are muddy, and since there are so many units on the screen, battles tend to drag out much longer than they need to be. Also, the wildly uneven difficulty and seriously cheap enemy attacks (enemy archers can shoot MORE THAN HALFWAY across the field) add to the monotony. The openin sequence is pretty though.
