It goes funnier, delves deeper, expands its own world, develops its relationships, and launches the series into even more unexpected territory than before. In other words, Wolf Like Me transforms itself — into something better and more brilliant.

Wolf Like Me is more drama than comedy, but it works either way, despite its strange premise. Much of that is thanks to Gad and Fisher, but it’s also because Forsythe has ground the show’s more supernatural elements in reality.

There's a vehicular stupidity to the show that's hard to get past, despite Isla Fisher making an entertaining werewolf. Gary (Olaf) can write a $25,000 check for a door on the spot, but he can't seem to get his station wagon repaired for years after a serious accident. During far too many episodes, multiple characters have car accidents, run red lights, nearly run over children on side walks, etc., and never get a single ticket or use their insurance. Someone needs to tell the writers to just stop using vehicles to create idiotic drama.

It’s a show of broad metaphors, perhaps one or two too many, that don’t always feel fully realized in the moment, but come together with pleasantly amusing potency after six episodes. ... The Wolf Like Me finale, shot to great effect in the Australian outback, pulls off the tough trick of being unresolved in a satisfying way.

Wolf Like Me may not do enough to cement itself in memory, but it's an unexpectedly heartfelt tale about a person overcoming the inherent fear of rejection and loss in order to try for love, and what happens when someone with those same fears is willing to reach out and meet them halfway.

While the show wouldn’t introduce something so messy, so tied up in grief and horror tropes only to betray it with an overabundance of schmaltz, the eventual conclusion for both Gary and Mary feels true to its overall spirit.

“Wolf Like Me” should become more intense and take us into even darker territory, and on some level that’s what happens, but there’s something curiously muted and underwhelming about the resolution of this promising story.

Wolf takes its traumatic situation so seriously, I kept wanting it to let its hair down. [17 - 30 Jan 2022, p.9]

"Wolf Like Me" (S01, 6 eps, 1/2hr, Peacock) is an engaging tale of a hapless woman with the curse of the werewolf. Isla is great in the title role as a widow, and Josh is cast well as "Gary", also hapless as a widower with a young special-needs daughter. And yes, it's a love story, kind of a weird, non-traditional one, but yeh, if you're into romance then you'll like. The problem with the series is that it's done on a shoestring budget, so scenes are long and drawn out, the pace is pretty slow. You get no VFX till the finale and then only about 1-min, seriously. The rest of the "reveal" in the series is done via suspense, urgency, music, sound FX, and the like. I would imagine subsequent seasons would provide his and her backstories but without a much bigger budget and much faster pace, I'm just not interested further.
