The uneasy mix of medical drama and Holmes worship is set to continue. Perhaps it was unreasonable to hope a show in the Sherlock universe might tick off every other main character and ignore the man himself … but it was nice while it lasted.

Watson remains a series with a lot of potential — especially considering how excellent the cast is — but the premiere lacks any indication that the series has learned from the flaws of its freshman year.

Watson feels like a show that just isn’t confident enough in its version of Dr. Watson and his team to let them stand on their own.
