Destitution has never been quite as appealing as it is in The Durrells in Corfu, the latest slice of picturesque Anglophilia from “Masterpiece.” The six-episode series is escapist entertainment in the most literal sense.

The series has the sophistication of PBS’s “Downton Abbey,” only with more laughs. There is something quite modern about the Durrells without it feeling false.

I love everything in this show: the simple yet interesting and humorous stories, the characters who I can't help but fall in love with, the cinematography, being set in the 1930s etc. I always feel like I'm part of the Durrells family when I'm watching the show.

Enjoyable show, very lite hearted and funny, at times. Has a best Exotic Marigold Hotel feel to it, yet still quite Masterpiece Theatre worthy. Keely Hawes does most of the heavy lifting and does a great job bringing up her co stars to her level.

All the Durrells seem to find themselves in Corfu. Viewers will find them irresistible.

Its themes aren’t quite as ambitious [as "Downton Abbey"]. It can also be a tad precious. But there’s something pleasing about the way it captures a time of innocence and a family in recovery. If you like this kind of escapist fare--and you know who you are--then I expect you will savor this laidback, elegant entertainment.

This sunny and touching yarn feels like just what we need in these angst-ridden days.

The Durrells in Corfu is as warm and pleasant as its picturesque setting.

This is a show for the petite English bourgeoisie that can only afford a two-week trip to the overcrowded Costa del Sol in August. Why do the critics love this show? My Big Beautiful Greek Wedding or whatever that disgusting movie name was is more realistic than this over-the-top stereotyped romantic view of a "natural" Greece. The British characters are barely more interesting. Watch a Theo Angelopoulos movie already or better yet "Dogtooth"!!!
