What Surface fails to understand is that it isn’t clever in its lack of clarity. Sure, revelations about Sophie’s previous memories shouldn’t be abundant. But giving nearly nothing to viewers, Surface makes a poor case for itself as anything but fluff TV.

It's an "elevated soap opera" – Neighbours if it was given a massive budget and had all the fun sapped out of it. ... It just feels like, given Mbatha-Raw's talent and Apple's money, Surface could have been so much more.

As much as we couldn’t take our eyes off Gugu Mbatha-Raw during the first episode of Surface, her performance can’t save a show that doesn’t seem to have enough story to justify an 8-episode series.

In the beginning, I thought it was gonna be one of those movies where The girl runs away from her past And eventually find out the truth, but that was not **** many twist and turns and the series that are completely unexpected I’m pretty good at figuring these things out but this one definitely left me stunned, very very, very well written highly recommend
