Wilson’s particular talent is ensuring that the performance never tips over into a flakiness that can read as vacant. All of that technique is poured into Pryce Cahill with wildly enjoyable results.

Stick's shortcomings don't stop it from being an enjoyable show, but they are frustrating wrinkles that can hopefully be ironed out in the second half of the season, or perhaps even in a second. As it stands, I am still prepared to bet that this is the best golf comedy you'll see this summer.

Not one for cynics but for everyone else it's a heart-warming, joyous show. I've always liked Owen Wilson but this show really gives him a chance to show his range. There is a lot of poignancy with his character and he nails it. He is the heart of the show but his relationship with Santi is the driver (pun intended). Looking forward to season 2 but hope they keep the 'family' and don't pit them against each other. Overall, loved it.

Great show! Found it late and binged the first 7. Owen is at his best. Funny but not stupid. Heartwarming. I'm in!

“Stick” shares some foundational plot and character DNA with Apple TV+ standouts “Ted Lasso” and “Shrinking.” But while it doesn’t match the depth of writing or the emotional resonance of those series, it’s a solid and satisfying effort with the potential for a multi-season run.

Fortunately, Wilson remains as watchable as anyone of a similar pedigree, from McConaughey to Harrelson, and it’s thanks to this that a show supported by a foundation of all that came before becomes a genuinely easy watch.

The series is essentially a 10-episode sports movie, with all the hooks, shanks and holes that come with the territory, so the outright surprises are few. But it’s the kind of thing one will like, if one has any affection for Mr. Wilson’s brand of arrested adolescence.

A handful of chuckles over 10 episodes isn't enough to put Stick on the comedy leaderboard, even in the "upbeat white guy" division.

There could be an enjoyable 90-minute comedy hidden away in here, but a full TV season painfully overstretches a standard sports underdog story until you just wish it would call it a day and go home.

This show has so much going for it. Owen is great. The writing is smart and fun. I think they handled the golf perfectly. I'd like a little less of the Zero character, but all in all it is a great show!! I think it's the best Apple has made in a long time.

I came to this show for some feel good dramedy, in that regard the show delivers. However, it’s a bit cliché and worst of all, there is some stuck up, politically correct girl who **** the main guy. Her dialogue is so cringy. There was one scene where the main character, (Owen Wilson) gets accused by her of sexual harassment just because he said (I think we can help each other out) it was cringy AF. There’s also a scene where she patronizes the characters for eating meat, and actually CONVINCES the main boy to turn vegan on the spot after knowing her for 2 days. Major cringe

I’ve usually enjoyed Owen Wilson’s hesitant comic style, but this time he’s just grating. That’s partially because this “comedy” isn’t. It’s a lot of frustrated encounters, hoping to be funny. Wilson plays a golf star, whose on-camera meltdown ruined his career. When he meets a promising young teen (Peter Dager), he sets off to make him a winner. Of course, their road trip had potential for fun and surprises, but it develops along expected lines. All of the performances are fine, it’s just the predictable script that never provides any depth. Marc Maron, as the caddie, adds his usual gruff type, while Mariana Treviño, who was the best thing about “A Man Called Otto” (my review), never gets any comic opportunities. Fortunately, the actual golf footage is minimal and usually in a montage. The series is trying to be earnest and maybe even heartwarming, but Owen’s constant whining gets in the way of any potential empathy or even fun. (Review based on 6 out of ten 30-minute eps)
