If you want to watch Star Trek this is not it, this is an angsty teen drama wearing the skin suit of what can arguably be called the corpse of Star Trek. Moments of cringe, moments of stupidity, moments of utter boredom, the hallmarks of a failed series are all here. It's not just the writing, but the directing as well. Ask yourself this question, if multiple fires were around you, would you just ignore them? Or try to put them out... Multiple times throughout the season we see fires burning in various locations and they just let them burn... Yeah the director is probably like "We got to make sure we portray damage, so let them burn, it looks cool on **** list of ignorant things doesn't just hit the actors under direction, but the 3D/Special Effects team as well. From commands like "Full Power to Forward Shields", when all the attacking ships are behind them. "Shields are down" then the next scene you visually see weapons fire hit shield effects. It's like the script writers said one thing, and told the 3D artists another! And instead of correcting the scripts, which is the cheapest and easiest way to fix it... The director and producer say "eh... who cares..." And that is the biggest crime of all. It is very apparent across the whole season that no one cares about it, oh they care about the paycheck I'm sure, but no one cares about the show. Star Trek use to address key issues of the day in a futuristic way, they use to highlight things that may be a problem in the future, they innovated stories and portrayed a culture that is basically a utopia! Sure the lore destroying Discovery throws Star Trek a different direction. But the strive should be getting back to that utopia way of life, not revert back to petty squabbling and indifference with artificial forced tension around "teens" that have the same issues as 2020's teens. The show runners ignore the fact that none of those 2020's teen pain points and drama would have been removed from hundreds of years of utopia of acceptance, inclusion, empathy toward others. Not literal species prejudice and lack of empathy. This is not even a good angsty teen drama... So when your goal of creating something new or a hybrid of two different styles of show fails not only the fans that built the franchise, but also fails to be what your goal was, you have failed, and that is what happened here.

I'd rather watch Glee. There are so many rediculous elements to this show its not even funny. Just cringe every second, absolutely zero substance, its just one highschool cliche after another. If they went game of thrones on it and killed all the main characters, no one would care, and it would make the rest of the season infintiely better.

well... i don't understand to so bad reviews... to balance I'll grant it a 10. there are some woke **** here and there and when i noticed it cringed me at first... but I kept watching and i just realised it's not so much wokeness... but being in tune with the current times. it's not worse than what we see at work... daily. i think we just got paranoid with all the disapointments since COVID it. and it's well made too... i was a little moved 2-3 times too... to my great surprise. so if you enjoy star strek... and want to see a 2026 interpretation of a youth serie in the universe of star trek... I think it deserve a chance.

This series is a continuation of Kurtzman ruining the franchise. There is no story here at all, the characters are unlikable, and the damage this has done to Star Trek is sickening. They had the potential for a good story here with memorable characters, but instead they just wanted to talk a whole lot about nothing. They need to shelve the second season, it isn't going to be worth the impending backlash that will inevitably receive if it's in any way similar to this season. Ignoring the canon they destroy, ignoring the science that doesn't make sense, ignoring the racism they portrayed, and ignoring the terrible acting ... This isn't a good show even in that vacuum. If this had no connection to Star Trek and was just a generic science fiction young adult series, it would have no one defending it. If the only people defending this are those who don't listen to reason and logic, then they have no say in how the series continues. Star Trek needs a rest and when it comes back they need to undo a whole lot of ****.

Alex Kurtzman should open a chapter book. If he can't write, he can't read. I'm looking forward to the "gory" return on investment for Acadamy.

Looks like they let woke write the script and ruin another show. Klingons are so misrepresented it’s sickening I had to turn it off. Klingons are a strong and proud race but you have them be wusses. So wrong!

Watched Star Trek Starfleet Academy with Emmy/Oscar Winner Holly Hunter(The Piano) as Chancellor-Captain Nahla Ake, Sandro Rosta as Caleb Mir, Karim Diane as Jay-Den Kraag , Kerrice Brooks as Sam [ Series Accilmation Module] ,George Hawkins as Darem Reymi, Bella Shepard as Genesis Lythe, Oded Fehr(The Mummy,Justice League Unlimited) as Charles Vance, Gina Yashere(The Standups) as Lura Thok, Brit Marling(Another Earth) as Computer of The U.S.S Athena , Stephen Colbert as VI Dean Of Students.Robert Picardo(Star Trek:Voyager) as The Doctor , Tig Nataro(Army Of The Dead) as Jett Reno ,Zoe Steiner as Tarima Sadal , Paul Giamatti(The Holdovers) as Nus Braka, Leah Tatiana Maslany(Orphan Black,The Monkey ) as Anisha Mir, Mary Wiseman(Star Trek Discovery) as Sylvie Tilly , Becky Lynch aka Rebecca Quin as Lieutenant Ya. I really enjoyed this series. It’s not without its flaws, but in my opinion it’s also pretty overhated. In an era where a lot of sci-fi on television leans heavily into darker, high-stakes storytelling—like The Expanse, Andor, and the Alien: Earth—it was refreshing to watch something with lower stakes and a more carefree tone.Caleb Mir, the Starfleet Academy student at the center of the show, feels very much like a Kirk-type character, but with an interesting twist: he’s not someone who grew up within the Federation system. He’s intelligent, curious, and learning what Starfleet actually means as he goes. Sam was another character I really liked; he felt very neurodivergent-coded and brought a different kind of energy to the ****-Den was also a standout. Seeing a Klingon with a more feminine side was refreshing, and it honestly didn’t bother me at all that he was gay or wore a skirt. Klingons are usually portrayed as one of the fiercest and most rigidly masculine races in Star Trek, so that kind of variation was interesting to see.Genesis Lythe had a compelling angle as well—being the daughter of an admiral and trying to live up to that legacy. That kind of expectation can be difficult for anyone. Darem Reymn works as the arrogant character whose attitude comes from the pressures of his royal lineage, while Tarima Sadal feels like a young version of Deanna Troi, expanding a bit on Betazoid culture in the **** of the strongest performances came from Nahke. Hunter did a great job portraying a mentor figure trying to redeem herself—someone wrestling with Starfleet’s past mistakes and her own personal grief after losing her son. She becomes almost a mother figure not just to Caleb, but to the rest of the students as well, often getting pulled into their shenanigans. That said, the show definitely has issues. The pacing can be uneven, and some episodes feel like they should have been rearranged—“Ko'Zeine” and “The Life of the Stars” especially might have worked better if their order had been switched. At times the series doesn’t quite seem to know what it wants to be.Another problem is the disappearing cast members. Characters like Lieutenant Ya and Lura Thok show up early—especially in the premiere—but barely appear afterward and don’t factor into the finale. Hopefully a second season gives the cast a bit more **** bigger issue, though, is with parts of the Star Trek and sci-fi fanbase. People sometimes forget that Star Trek was always meant to show an ideal future—a vision of humanity doing better than we are today. It has always tackled political and social issues, but in ways that were thoughtful and approachable.Right now we’re still in a moment where darker sci-fi dominates television. Since the end of The Expanse, truly optimistic and adventurous sci-fi has had a harder time finding its footing. Both styles are important.Despite its pacing problems and underused characters, this is still an overall fun Star Trek series—closer in spirit to Star Trek: Lower Decks, though thankfully less crass. With a little more focus, it could become something really special. Showrunning by Noga Landau(Tau) & Alex Kurtzman(Star Trek Picard), Producing by Tawny Newsome(Star Trek Lower Decks) , based on Star Trek Created By Gene Roddenberry, Score By Jeff Russo(Alien Earth) While it struggles with pacing issues and vanquishing cast Members an overall fun Star Trek Series in The Vein of Lower Decks though Less Crass. A Fun, Optimistic Star Trek That’s Getting Too Much Hate 7.5/10

I usually watch a show before rating. I have not seen this one. I wanted to post something due to the lowest scores ive seen here. And of course critic scores at odds with audience scores. Ill give it a two only because I haven't seen it and dont want to skew it. Unreal. When this show is studied one day ill be a part of it

ST:SFA is working on bringing the Next Generation to Trek. It's fresh, has great actors both seasoned and new, and it is pushing the boundaries. We love it and my kids are finally learning to LOVE Star Trek. Thank you for this show!!

What were they thinking? The show is horrible. It’s like a joke. Like a Star Trek parody but badly done and not funny. Low-grade amateur unprofessional deeply disappointing.

The absolute worst show I've ever tried watching. It's not Star Trek, it's some ripoff made for goobers. Don't waste your time unless you lack proper brain function.

My son, 12, and my daughter, 16, are enjoying this series as much as I enjoyed watching TNG back in the 90s as a kid. That's my yardstick for how good the show is, not whether it satisfies some aggrieved fanboy's notion of what Star Trek should be like.

I never thought Star Trek could fall this far. The writing is willfully bad, like they started with the intention "we hate Star Trek and everything it stands for so let's ruin it" So sad

It hasn't been Star Trek for at least a decade now. If somebody wants to reinvent something why don't they just invent something new... rather than destroying something that's been loved for so long.

This show is what happens when you are more worried about inclusion than storytelling. You can have strong characters that are also way but if that is their only personality trait then it becomes a bad character. Strong female leads have always been a part of Star Trek but again they first need to be strong characters that happen to be female.

This is worse than the Acolyte and the lowest low of Star Trek. If you´re someone who likes to get headaches from a bad series (And im being nice with this review because i don´t want to get banned) than it´s perfect for you.

Star Trek started being a part of my life in 1966. More than just another TV show. A world view that was ever expanding. Where the people who became virtual role models always came from a place of wanting to do the right thing using hard won knowledge, skill and bravery. This latest iteration of the franchise betrays and mocks those values. Which might at least be entertaining, but it is not. Lower Decks did that and was entertaining, because it was a comedy. ST:SA if the writing was better might be a drama. As it is it’s just tedious to watch. Also someone didn’t get the memo about how science fiction works. Other fan reviews have gone into detail about this. Even if it wasn’t a Star Trek series it would still be unpleasant to watch.

I have been a Star Trek fan since I was a kid. This show is an insult to the legacy and idea of Star Trek. This show inserts contemporary vocabulary and sociopolitical feelings into what is supposed to be a vision of the future. The writing is absolute trash, the storylines (if you can even call them that) are juvenile and dumb. This is not Star Trek. It's a "modern" take on feelings, girl-bosses and stupidity. Everyone involved in making this show should be ashamed.

I’ve been a Trek fan since 1979 when I saw The Motion Picture in theatres when I was 5 years old. I’ve loved this franchise from TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT. The movies spanning 1979 to 2002. They’ve all earned a special place in my heart. Then we’re treated to Alex Kurtzman’s vision. I won’t get into discussing his STD blunder. I’m only here to voice my utter disgust and revulsion at the sheer contempt and hatred he’s demonstrated with Starfleet Academy (STSA). From dialogue and humour that belongs in teen shows to characters who act like they belong in a mental institution. The forced sexual identity politics and body positivity lumps. Story writing that I strongly believe was done using AI which then got hacked by the CCP. There is no sacred space left in Star Trek that STSA has not sodomised. Starfleet Academy, the institution, was home to the best and brightest minds. Candidates were selected only after completing a battery of tests and evaluations. Brilliant, mature, wise, fit and determined. Only the absolute best of the best got into the Academy. Even candidates like Wesley Crusher and Jean-Luc Picard failed their first attempts. With Picard eventually rising to command the Enterprise-D and E. Kurtzman gave us “I think I swallowed my com-badge”. Star Trek was a show written by adults for adults. Adult actors supervised by adult directors. It dealt with mature themes and contemporary issues in thoughtful and respectful ways. But above all that, Star Trek made you think. It asked hard questions, presented mature solutions and invited you to reevaluate your own position so we could learn to see both sides of an argument and we could grow together. Kurtzman Trek does none of that. He TELLS you what to think. STSA is the absolute anthesis is what made Star Trek great and timeless. It is truly heartbreaking and tragic to see our once beloved series treated with hatred by people who should never have been placed in control over it. Kurtzman’s own interviews illustrate that very point. Star Trek Starfleet Academy, as well as Discovery and Picard seasons 1&2, are not Trek. They’re wearing Trek like Buffalo Bill’s skin dress. Shocking. Horrific. Disgusting. Disturbing. For me, Star Trek ended in 2005 with the end of Enterprise. Farewell, old friend.

I’ve been a huge fan of Star Trek since I was a kid, growing up on TNG and DS9. Starfleet Academy is a very different look at the Star Trek universe yet carries the same themes, reimagined for a younger generation. Don’t expect seasoned officers grown with professionalism, expect a bunch of kids growing into that mold. Keeping that in mind leads to enjoying this top notch new entry in the Trekverse.

as much as you love a franchise, star trek died 20 years ago. this was going down at the time and now this desperate tv show is trying to convince us of something that is no more. It's time we let go this generation of writers that copy the past and we wait for something new and fresh.

Horrific abomination and abuse of a beloved IP. The best case scenario is cancelation followed by a break for Star Trek until the cultural pendulum swings back to some sense of normalcy, artistic integrity and quality.

Watching starfleet kindergarden is like watching a train crash in slow motion - horrific yet hard to look away. How much worse can they tear the franchise a new one? My biggest gripe with the series is the size of the plot holes - large enough to park 5 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-C and have room to spare. The lack of rationality and consistency in this series is truly jarring.

0/10. Absolute garbage. I forced myself through the first few episodes, and it's easily the worst thing to ever wear the Star Trek name. This isn't Trek; it's a CW teen soap opera slapped with a Starfleet logo and some half-hearted phaser effects. The plot is a mess of contrived "coming-of-age" drama that feels like it was written by someone who skimmed a Wikipedia page on Star Trek and decided the only interesting part was "young people with feelings."The cadets are unbearable—cardboard cutouts of archetypes: the "rebellious one," the "genius outsider," the "perfect golden child," all spouting dialogue that's painfully on-the-nose and cringeworthy. Their "conflicts" are petty high-school nonsense dressed up as interstellar stakes, like rivalries over who gets to pilot the simulator or who kissed who in the dorms. Where's the exploration? The wonder? The moral dilemmas that actually challenge you? Nowhere. Instead, we get endless therapy-speak monologues about "identity" and "belonging" that grind the pacing to a **** villains? Paul Giamatti as some shadowy antagonist feels like a desperate casting grab—his performance is phoned in, and the threat he represents is vague and unconvincing. The show tries to tie into post-Burn lore or whatever, but it mangles it so badly that longtime fans are left rolling their eyes. Holly Hunter as the chancellor is wasted on lines that sound like they were generated by an AI trying to sound inspirational.Visually, it's flat and cheap-looking for a modern Paramount+ show—lighting is harsh and artificial, sets feel small and recycled, and the "action" sequences are laughable. No sense of scale, no awe-inspiring sci-fi wonder. It's all close-ups of angsty faces and awkward teen romance. This series doesn't respect what made Star Trek great: optimism through intellect, ethical exploration, diverse crews solving problems with science and principle. Instead, it's cynical slop that panders to the lowest common denominator while pretending to be "bold" and "inclusive." It's not aspirational; it's insulting. If this is the future of Star Trek, the franchise deserves to be put out of its misery.I hated every second. 0 out of 10. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.

While very high production value this show is just lousy going from worse to worse as each new episode lands like a cow pat. So far I’ve watched the first 7 episodes of season 1 and will watch the fine 3. The actors some of whom are well known, others fresh with some potential have been severely let down by the frankly awful premise and writing. I am old, watched every version of Star Trek including the Original Series when it first aired in the UK and while there have been occasional hiccups nothing has been as poor or as divisive as this. Entirely inconsistent within and between episodes. Destruction of race legacy — most offensive is the treatment of Klingons and Vulcans Frankly Kurtzman Trek needs to be thrown in the dunnie. But no apparently season 2 is deep in production. God help us.

Delightful, intense, meaningful Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has been even better than I hoped. I have been a Trekkie since I watched TOS "The Devil in the Dark" when I was five. Every new iteration of Trek is different, but I find I love the uniqueness in every new show.Starfleet Academy may be aimed primarily and teenagers and young adults, but it has the core Trek values that keep me coming back. And the cast is superb, every one. I am so grateful for this uplifting little show in this dark world!

I don't hate this show, not exactly, I think it has a lot of potential, I just feel like they lay on a lot of stuff too thick. It's saturated and feels forced and artifical. The characters seem really over the top, and the storyline seems to take a backseat to the character development and relationships, which I dont like. Other Treks had their problems too, acting could be stiff, episodes could be lame or stupid, plots could be stupid, but this show seems to have a few episodes that are good, and a lot that ****. Hopefully it gets better, I'd like to like the show. I hated Disc and Picard when they first came out and liked them by the end, but this one is a little much. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

I don't like demeaning other people's work. I have enjoyed Star Trek immensely since I was 5 years old. That's 35 years. I loved TOS, TNG, DS9, parts of Voyager and ENT. I loved the old movies, some of the TNG movies, even the first JJ Abrams movie. This seems like it is designed to irritate anyone who has ever enjoyed Star Trek. The casting, the writing, the bad makeup. I don't think this kind of entertainment product is designed to entertain, make a profit, or anything like that. This is designed to overwrite the cultural narrative with a new, destructive one. This is propaganda wearing a skinsuit of your favorite franchise. Do not make the same mistake I did. Do not watch this program. Take advice from the Simpsons episode with Paul Anka. "Just don't look! Just don't look!"

The series so far appears to have been written by people who neither love nor know Star Trek. These writers also appear to have no concept of story, plot, pacing, or dialogue. I'd be okay with a show set around Starfleet Academy if it was written similarly to the books based in the same setting, or to the shows that existed before Kurtzman took over. There's something about the setting that lends itself to good story fodder. Unfortunately, neither the showrunner nor the writers know how to take advantage of that. Instead, it's as though they wanted to write something else entirely but had to find a way to make it fit Star Trek. Either that or it's a bunch of new, unfinished, unpolished writers attempting to change Star Trek to fit their own ideas. As for the production, it's the same over-slick, grim-dark, motion-blurred, lens-flare garbage we've seen in every Kurtzman outing. It's supposed to look new, but it's gotten quite old.

I'm enjoying it! I've been a Star Trek fan since the ST IV movie in the 1980's, and then TNG, DS9, Voyager... And sure, this is different, but different isn't necessarily bad. The characters are decent, the story's fun, the acting great. Do I love all of it? No, there's some weird storytelling in places, and some things I wouldn't do myself if I were the writer, but that's fine - it's still a fun watch.

Lifelong Trekkie review: Overwhelmingly terrible. Being as nice as possible, the show has no redeeming qualities. The characters are checkboxes, and offensive. The creativity is nil. The show has no concept of time or perspective, nor the episode that came before or after. The captain is a complete clown, dancing on her chair like a toddler at every moment while prancing barefoot. When I feel this way about an old franchise, I take a step back and remove the original ideas or concepts of the show with a "let it stand on its own" angle. Still terrible. Degrassi in space, which is an insult to Degrassi.

Ignoring all the SJW stuff they throw in your face, this just isn't Trek. It appears that the writers care nothing for the science in science fiction. The science has to make sense, even if it is fiction. This is just slop.
