The delightfully creative series from writer, director and creator Steven Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) returns better than ever, a wholly original vision that has distant-cousin connections to the vibe of the Fargo television series and Wes Anderson films, while being its own weird thing.

It’s [the] weird but human moments that propel Patriot, created by Steven Conrad (“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”), even as it keeps the spy-thriller plot simmering.

Oh my god, the critics whiffed on this one so hard! Michael Dorman is fantastic in the lead role. But the casting is great, across the board. Fantastic dialogue and plot. Funny, sad, and so dark, with occasional rays of light that brighten this dreary tale.

Probably my favorite show of all time! But I can understand that it’s definitely not a show for everyone (nothing really good ever is). If you don’t get the humor in it, it’s probably not for you. The characters are outstanding, the dialog is fantastic, and the story is well thought out. I can’t praise the writing in this enough! I thought the cinematography was great as well. The only thing I don’t like about it is that Amazon hasn’t given it a third season to complete the story. Wish there was more entertainment out there of this quality!

Comparing Patriot, a 10-episode series available Friday on Amazon, to three of the most distinctive series on television [“Mr. Robot,” “Fargo” and “The Americans”] is overselling it, but not by a drastic amount.

None of the episodes are quite as clean as the premiere, either, but they’re also clearly building toward something.

It is more diverting than suspenseful, less a roller-coaster ride than a scenic railway.

Insufferable. ... At first, it’s nice to see TV veterans O’Quinn and Smith on screen again, but soon it becomes grating to see such talented actors trapped in such an airless, self-indulgent and smug story.

Absolutely superb from start to finish. Characters with incredible depth, a compelling story, and a stellar soundtrack. Would rate this show 500/10 if possible.

Funny, dark, imaginative, surreal, kooky. This show had it all. I wish there were more shows like this. John and Rick are so unbelievable. The pipe speech. The attached badge. The folk songs! Pure gold. Better than 90% of television.

Offbeat, surprising and funny throughout, it's hidden gems like Patriot that validate the streaming space beyond the Weekly Top 10. Take a sprig of Llewyn Davis, add a dash of Jason Bourne and garnish with Peter Sellers. Fun watch.
