It’s a riveting and devastating ride, anchored by some of the most mercurial performances you’ll see on TV this year. Tumbling into the Friedkins’ shadowy burrow can be harrowing at times, but it’s a fall worth taking when you have Vince and Jake waiting at the bottom.

The series is eminently watchable, at times even addictive. This is largely due to the chemistry of Jason Bateman, who channels his smarm into Vince’s consummate dirtbag, and Jude Law, who fills Jake with a puffed-up swagger that can’t keep the hell hounds off his trail.

I have always loved Jason Bateman, He's a great actor but Jude Law does a fantastic job in the series. It's gripping and I enjoyed every moment of it

We get the feeling that Black Rabbit is going to be problematic and overstuffed as the series moves along, but Law and Bateman are so compelling as Jake and Vince, we’ll keep watching, just to see how far Vince pushes his brother’s goodwill.

It’s too busy, trying to do too much, and loses the sharp focus it needs to bring us along for what is almost – but not quite – a great ride.

Netflix’s gripping yet exasperating and criminally overlong eight-part thriller.

What's Alan Watching?
This is a promising, if familiar, dynamic for Black Rabbit, created by King Richard screenwriter Zach Baylin, along with Kate Susman. But it rarely plays out in a compelling fashion, because neither brother comes across quite like the show wants them to.

"Rabbit," about a pair of brothers − one a perennial failure and the other a slick success − comes off as a dull, literally dark slog into a poorly explicated criminal underworld.

It’s intriguing but I’m not getting much brotherly vibe from the leads. Bateman is the more convincing of the two although Law tries hard to be the slightly more responsible older brother. The comedic moments just seem like more tragedy and you just want the trauma to be over.

The series starts strong, setting up a murky world where family, business, and crime collide. It has all the ingredients **** thriller: tension, betrayal, and characters trapped in moral dilemmas. However, as it moves forward, it feels like the wrapping is more powerful than the story it’s actually telling.Jason Bateman and Jude Law carry much of the weight with intense performances, and visually the production is impeccable, with that prestige-drama look Netflix aims for. But beneath the polished surface, it often feels hollow, as if the story circles around without fully biting into its own potential. There are, of course, highlights — gripping moments and a finale that leaves its mark. The problem lies in the journey: some episodes drag on and dilute the initial **** the end, Black Rabbit stands as an attractive thriller with shiny packaging and solid acting, but one that doesn’t quite push its premise as far as it could. It’s entertaining, engaging in parts, but ultimately leaves you wishing for more.

Honestly - I'm not sure why I gave this even a '3' rating? Perhaps there is some story in this convoluted mess? We typically like Jason Bateman but he's much better in 'light' movies than more serious (Ozark aside which degraded the last season or two)... This is the same Jason Bateman with long hair and a beard. He is meant to be the problem brother but we're never given any kind of back story that meshes. I think there is some backstory to both characters but it certainly isn't flushed out in the first 2 episodes which is I could stand. The flow of the show is a complete mess. The characters aren't 'baked' at all (half-baked would be an improvement). I just don't care about any of it. Beyond the tepid acting (Law and Bateman are complicit), I have to lay much of the blame on Bateman's directing. When the show is a complete mess the director has to take the blame. Basically we get a show with all style and no substance. Just a thin thread tying cliche' after cliche' together. ... bummer
