“Big Mouth” continues to deliver a unique blend of high-minded lessons and low-brow humor with each passing entry. Even when it’s talking about some bad old movie you’ve never heard of or barely remember, “Big Mouth” is universal.

Season three throws tonal and stylistic curveballs even more frequently. ... It’s a testament to this show that we feel so heartbroken for these kids. We know because we’ve been there. That’s what makes Big Mouth such a great coming-of-age story. It’s not just the raunchy humor and brilliant one-liners, although those are also exceptional.

The show’s commitment to being unflinchingly honest about the confusing (and sometimes exhilarating) experience of puberty and adolescence is what makes it succeed. It’s gross, but not without purpose; painful, but rarely cruel; heartfelt, but never cheesy. It’s also really fucking funny.

It continues to vividly remind its audience what it was like to be 13, but might inspire us to continue grow a little bit along with them.

Big Mouth is at its best when its mile-a-minute humor supports, rather than distracts from, its open exploration of the convulsions of early-teen sexuality.

Again, Big Mouth, the animated show about middle schoolers going through puberty, remains one of the funniest comedies that is currently on. The writing remains sharp and creative, and the voice cast remains great. The overrunning storyline doesn't feel as strong as the last two seasons. Also. the recurring joke of Jay (voiced by Jason Mantzoukis) using inanimate objects for sexual relief has shifted from the uncomfortable and freaky to just plain repetitively annoying by this point. Fans of simple-minded Coach Steve (voiced by Nick Kroll) may be disappointed that he has significantly reduced screentime this season. Personally, I think the random character works better in small doses. If you're unfamiliar with the show and weren't tipped off by the sentence about Jay, Big Mouth really, really pushes the limit. It shows stuff I didn't even know they could show on television, even if it's animated, even if it's under the looser guidelines of a streaming service. Basically, this show is really funny, but if you're squeamish or not into controversial humor then this isn't for you.

A very good season Big Mouth continues in stride somehow finding more issues of puberty to tackle head on. And the ending hints at further drama and development.
