SummaryEx-con Lucas Hood (Antony Starr) may be the sheriff of Banshee, Pennsylvania, but he's not reformed even as he's hiding from the gangsters he and his old partner, Carrie Hopewell (Ivana Milicevic), betrayed.

Despite the somewhat strained setup, Banshee is a kick: ultraviolent, over-the-top, and wickedly fun. [11 Jan 2013, p.80]

It has a solid pedigree. It's also part of Cinemax's effort to expand its original programming. That effort pays off with Banshee.

An absolute gem of a TV series. The budget is there to see on the screen, episode after episode. A perfect harmony of writing, casting, fight choreography, visual effects, soundtrack and pacing. THIS is the template of what a good TV show can achieve without diluting an idea into syndicated oblivion. The first couple seasons are tight 10/10 quality with superb pacing. The showrunners have to be commended here for crafting something that truly respects the audience so much. Be warned if you're not a fan of violence and nudity then stay well clear of this often brutal action drama.

Best serie in all of world !! Awesome!! Perfect !!! Better than all series !! This show is the best show i've seen so far! the plot, the cast, everything is just awsome. Antony Starr is an epic discovery.. he is so real I can feel his torment over Ana. He is so damn cool!! the whole thing is just brilliant.

The show doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is--a violent, sexy, somewhat cheesy, but generally entertaining genre drama--and that makes it easier to like.

Banshee is a mangy mutt of a TV show and doesn't care if you know it.

Banshee's not a terrible show. At times it can be entertaining. But at best it's terribly, entertainingly superfluous.

Neither a clear message nor steady mood can be properly discerned amid the taxing commotion.

Banshee has the audacity to behave as though its bloody violence, implausible set-up and studied ugliness is somehow vanguard television. In fact, it's just more of the same.

I went into Banshee hoping for a fun and mindless action show, yet I never expected the first season of Banshee to hook me as much as it did. I went from expecting the show to be a 7/10 to in the end on my YouTube channel giving Season 1 a 9.6/10, because It was that amazing. The premise alone of a criminal taking the place as 'Lucas Hood' the recently murdered new sheriff of Banshee, Pennsylvania was an intriguing enough concept, but I ended up being instantly interested in that story-line along with him staying off his former boss' radar. The characters were all really fun interesting and well developed in the 10 action packed episodes that has some of the best action and CGI I have seen on a TV show. If you haven't checked out Banshee, In the word of Shia LaBeouf, just do it! You owe it to yourself!

Cinemax's newest gentle tough guy show is easy to watch. The gratuitous scenes are almost laughable, but it is Cinemax. At its root, it is fun tv. Nothing wrong with that.

I am on episode 2 and am having real trouble caring about any of these people. (Well, I care about the 14 year old girl who just got hit on by one of the adult bad guys. We are one step away from pedophilia.) Perhaps it's the wooden dialogue. Perhaps it's the lead who has mastered an American accent but doesn't walk like an American (moves more like a small time British film gangster, although Australian). Perhaps it is because he is supposed to at least try to act like a sheriff but acts like a violent crook and never shaves, especially in uniform. And he seems like more of a sociopath than the bad guys. And needs a shower. Who would want to sleep with this guy (and there are a lot of women falling into sex with him..) There is something wrong here in the sensibility at work. Something faintly perverse.

The dialogue is, Have you got a judge in your pocket or are you happy to see me. The main actor has only one expression throughout the entire episode a weak plastic forced smile. All the action scenes are jerky and being film from somebody on a trampoline. Watch the opening and wonder WTF why the truck fell over? I re-winded 10 times, and it was as pointless as this entire series. The gunslinger in the opening is such a bad poser that in his stance it really is no wonder, why every shot he fires has missed. On the plus side there is a brief glimpse of **** but the town is Banshee a centre for the Amish community. In truth I watched 15 minutes before fast-forwarding hoping maybe this dreadful opener would improve, it really didn't at all. Maybe you might last the course honestly I doubt it very much so. Awful
