Redstar Wu & the Worldwide Scourge emphasises not so much his influences but his uniqueness within Australian music, channelling his lived experiences as a Black artist into unabashedly political songs that remain open, accessible and outright fun. .... The album is also a reminder that art – especially this raw and human – is itself a source of hope.

Redstar Wu & The Worldwide Scourge is a magnificent achievement. By successfully joining the urgency of political protest with the aching vulnerability of the human heart, Genesis Owusu has crafted a bold state-of-the-day record.

Many albums will undoubtedly be written about the fractured world in which we live right now, but few are likely to be quite as slick and potent as this one.

Falling Both Ways blends echo-laden percussion and threatening vocals like OutKast, while Pirate Radio owes more than titular similarity to This Is Radio Clash. .... Where does he go next? Wherever he wants. [Jul 2026, p.89]

You can’t fault Owusu’s ambition, nor his ability to translate his furies and fears into a response that feels genuinely reactive and urgent. On his third album, he’s made a truly modern version of a protest record.

This is the most focused, aggressive music of the artist’s career.

The sheer experimentation is more than enough to engage the listener itself, but the messages portrayed throughout the runtime is what really drew me in. This album is all about the vibes. It's a hip-hop album at heart, but all of the different influences are really able to shine through to their own varying degrees.

While REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE may not embrace an explicit narrative framework like Owusu’s first two records, it charts a linear journey from dystopian despair to cautious optimism.
