We can all look forward to Hollywood completely dropping the ball with its inevitable remake, but until then, Train to Busan is the year's best genre offering by a zombie mile.

Often chaotic but never disorienting, the movie’s spirited set pieces — like a wriggling ribbon of undead clinging doggedly to the last compartment — owe much to Lee Hyung-deok’s wonderfully agile cinematography.

Although it lacks the layers evident in Yeon’s acclaimed animations (including the thematically-linked Seoul Station), this is still an entertaining ride, as well as providing political commentary when it overtly references the Korean government’s response to the MERS virus alongside commenting on the country’s class system.

Busan doesn’t reinvent the zombie movie so much as make it work well enough that you buy in — good performances, a nice selection of moments of “sacrifice,” the usual “What are they THINKING?” twists.

For almost 45 minutes, Yeon Sang-ho’s Train to Busan is on pace to become the best, most urgent zombie movie since “28 Days Later.” And then — at once both figuratively and literally — this broad Korean blockbuster derails in slow-motion, sliding off the tracks and bursting into a hot mess of generic moments and digital fire.

If Romero's Night of the Living Dead is responsible for bringing the zombie genre to life, Train to Busan kicks it up to a new level. These zombies are different than most, being fast moving, blind in dark zombies. Paired with a deep commentary about class and social segregation, in which Romero's was films were often a commentary of different themes, and Train to Busan is my perfect zombie film.

The only thing holding this movie together is the acting and large-scale zombie attacks. I liked the Lord of the Flies connections, but at its core the film is a failure. It's a horror movie that isn't scary, an action movie with bad action, and a drama with cheesy writing. I did care about a few characters, but that was only due to the likability of the actors and their performances.

So overrated it's untrue I hate to pee on everyone's parade but this was without doubt the most overrated and over hyped film in a very long time. Hollywood has been doing these films much better for ages and with a lot less of the unnecessary cheesy dramatics common with filmsTV coming from Asia.
I just don't get why people are giving this perfect scores, have they never seen films before???
