It's not my type of horror. This is some kind of psychological drama and thriller. Sadly, the "psychology" is limited to "going crazy". Masters like Mike Flanagan will use psychology as one tool from a whole toolbox in order to tell a great story, but this "The Turning" movie only use the phychology for horror. In a way, this is like a "body horror" movie, except you have to replace "body" for "mind" or "psychology": "psychological horror". Sadly, it's not a good story... People are going crazy for no reason and the story doesn't make any sense after only five or ten minutes. I think this movie suffers from an identity crisis... It should not have been a surnatural horror movie. It just ****. Also, I still don't understand the meaning of the title.

It was good at first, but the ending was as a try hard. Wasted my time and the worst. This is the worst horror movie I have watched in a long time.

I have genuinely no idea who the hell thought that the ending was a good idea. Its the kind of ambiguous ending that isn't satisfying or clever or thought provoking in any way. Even without the ending, almost every other element of the film is pretty terrible. I love Finn and Mackenzie, but they both **** big time in this one. It has nice production design and some good lighting. That's it. A V O I D.

The movie is good but the ending is horrible and confussing I like the fact they get out of the house the first time why all the alternating confusing ends for.

Tediosa, cliché e insoportable. No ofrece nada nuevo y los personajes en su mayoría son muy molestos, excepto por la protagonista Mackenzie Davis, la cual brinda una actuación decente en comparación del resto del elenco.

Creepy movie with excellent cast, but more could have been done with it. Also, it had the most crappy excuse for an "ending" you could ever see. Below average horror film. It gets a 4/10

An obnoxious chick-flick gone PG-13 fakeout-jumpscare horror, with the effects and cinematography of a 2006 direct-to-DVD movie. Now with 50% more annoying, ugly kids that talk like adults and beg you to be punched in the kisser.

This is the worst movie I have ever watched within the entirety of my life. Some say only the intelligent will understand the movie and that my friends is absolutely incorrect. The plot is horrible and easily understood, you could watch the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes and still understand. Too much filler, horrible movie.

The Turning starts out gripping and truly suspenseful, leaving you wondering what-on-earth is going on and what direction the narrative is going to swing you in next. And right when you start to think "hey, things are actually getting good," the movie just sort of...stops and gives up on itself, putting any plot points and potential character development to waste.

This film has only reminded me of how little the audiences nowadays demands from the horror genre. The Turning is yet another perfect example where cliches and the most generic elements are the complete bet of the production to try to entertain and trust me when I say their bet is poor.

The Turning isn't so much bold as it is boring and predictable. There are so many better horror movies out there that aren't cliche and are actually scary. I've heard rumors that this movie has been stuck in development hell for a while, and I can't help but wonder if they are true. Its not the worst horror movie I've ever seen, but its an unforgivable waste of time.

It's no wonder this film under development hell for decades and Steven Spielberg left production. This was nothing movie; nothing really happens in this film. No meaning, no real ending. If you plan to watch it, you're gonna ask yourself why you even bothered to see it.

About as generic as a horror film can get, The Turning fails at nearly every aspect its predecessors got right. The characters are maddening, the attempted scares fall flat, and the nonexistent plot provides one of the least satisfying endings in movie history. Don’t waste your time.

This is a pretty decent movie with a fairly good story. New governess/tutor comes to huge, dark, scary house to tutor an adorable little girl. The inly other person in the house is a weird old woman with strange ideas about raising children. Soon after, the very strange older brother comes home and things start to heat up. Lots of spooky doings. Weird dreams. What is real and what is a dream? After a while, that becomes quite confusing. But, the heroine is very likable, but increasingly stupid (aren’t they always? Just leave!) Anyway, things go on a d get stranger. We were enjoying this story right up until the very end. Guess what? NO ending! None! It just quits. No resolution, no escape, nothing. Because of this, I would not recommend it.

Have any of you ever been to an average amusement park with a less than average haunted house/ghost train where half the machines don't work and the ones that do are so far from scary you just want the whole experience to end as soon as possible? Yeah, that's what it's like to watch The Turning. Kate (Mackenzie Davis) takes a new job in a totally creepy mansion as a live in governess for two orphans, Flora (Brooklyn Prince) and Miles (Finn Wolfhard). She soon discovers that the house and the children are harboring some dark, disturbing secrets. And in proper horror movie fashion it takes all the clichés you've seen before and stuffs them into an hour and a half desperately hoping something will scare you. Not only does it fail at it's one job it also has nothing else going for it. There's no atmosphere, it introduces various themes bordering on mystery or psychological thriller but the result is a bland boring mess. It's all over the place with the horror movie tropes you've seen done before only better. As the story progresses it only gets worse and in the last act you could be forgiven for thinking you fell asleep only to wake up towards the end and ask yourself "what just happened?" I was awake the whole time and I felt like this, I was still asking myself that question when it finally ended. Only I don't care enough to look into to the fact that it feels like a chunk of this film is missing, I honestly don't care. The casting was about the only thing The Turning got right. Davis, Prince and Wolfhard are better actors than The Turning would have you believe. So it's painful to see them in such a badly written, generic horror. Not recommended, trust me you'll regret wasting time on this one. But if you don't want to take my word for it I can assure you the other four people in the cinema didn't seem too impressed with The Turning either.

Okay, there were a lot of "..... what?" moments in this movie, but the ending was one big WTF moment. I don't think I've seen a movie so strange, so confusing that I might have to watch it multiple time just to find out what I missed (deleted scenes will probably make more sense) but still.... What?

There were some creepy moments and good atmospheric settings that nudged my score up a little, but this is ultimately a very strange and seemingly incomplete movie. They didn't take advantage of their strengths, opting instead for sloppy edits and a divisive plotline which I know was meant to leave the audience uncertain, but instead just seemed to leave us all unfulfilled. Really not worth watching unless you're really that deep into the genre - and, even then, I'd suggest waiting for streaming or something.

This movie is god-awful! As one of the critics said, there's nary a scare in the entire film. It's boring, nonsensical, a waste of 0s and 1s (I want to say a waste of celluloid, but hey, they're not using that any more.) I'm shocked that Universal would put this out.

While the source novella and the 1961 adaptation (The Innocents if you aren't aware) remain two of the most chilling stories, this adaptation loses anything that makes the previous editions work (of the one's I've seen, Turn of the Screw has been adapted many other times). The Turning is a good-looking mess that has a kernel **** flick lost within a script that feels like it got cut down from something more coherent. Is the haunting real or imagined? While typically this is left ambiguous, the movie clearly notes the ghosts are real, but then abandons this for long periods of time to question kate's sanity. And that ending, without going into spoilers - it's a waste and just feels like the film is missing the 3rd act. Mackenzie davis and Brooklyn Prince are both giving solid performances, but Finn Wolfhard is awful. Avoid.

An interesting horror film, especially if you like the genre and have seen both the classics and newer films. Visually the film is often arresting, as you would expect from this director, and the acting is surprisingly good and convincing. The main element the film lacked was a compelling story line, although the well-cast actors, setting, and mood often made up for the weak script. Although this film fell far short of classic films like “The Innocents,” the excellent cast and the dark mood that this director managed to create held my interest in spite of some of the film’s weaknesses.
