It's a comedy of manhood for the age of emasculation.

Nimbly blending comedy and action -- with an affectionate slo-mo nod to John Woo -- McKay does his best work to date here.

a rare comedy that has a double meaning and context. The characters are very authentic and despite satire style of the movie they are quite realistic. Love it. Don't miss the message delivered along with credits. This is what that movie was actually about.

It's a mixed bag with plenty of gags that fall flat, not a comic masterpiece. But it's got tremendous zing, a sense of mischief and a big heart, more than enough to mark it as a delicious shot of caffeinated ice cream, and the summer season's funniest comedy.

As with most Ferrell projects, there's nothing profound going on in The Other Guys. It's just a bit of good, stupid fun, had at the expense of an uber-formulaic genre that has long been ripe for the spoofing. But it also works.

Wahlberg is surprisingly committed to the ridiculousness.

The Other Guys actually suffers by comparison to its own madcap opening sequence.
50
The laughs ultimately take a backseat to a convoluted white-collar crime story.

The Other Guys takes advantage of its buddy cop theme much better than Cop Out did. Its much funnier and the characters are much more likeable.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg serve as a pair of mismatched police detectives: half buddy cop, half odd couple. When the precinct's resident superstars (The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, in a brief-but-hilarious partnership) meet a tragic fate, the resulting vacuum drives half the building to audition as their replacements. Everybody wants to be that guy on the front page, dressed to the nines with a noisy muscle car, suavely boasting of this week's big arrest. Despite his perennial desk-jockey status, Ferrell lets Wahlberg talk him into that same sexy pursuit. And, as one might expect, soon they're in over their heads, up against some sort of loosely-defined international financial scheme. The plot doesn't hold up to scrutiny, but The Other Guys isn't really about the narrative, anyway. The whole idea is to let Ferrell bounce off walls and run with silly side gags, just like he did in his previous collaborations with director Adam McKay. As always, that loose approach allows for some funny unscripted material, but it also produces several stale bits that hang on for too long. It's probably safe to say the formula has slipped past the sell-by date after similarly rowdy, one-note concepts like Anchorman and Talladega Nights. Wahlberg isn't the world's best straight man, either, though he holds his own in the hyper-indulgent action scenes, and Michael Keaton picks up some of that comedic slack in a slim supporting role. As light entertainment goes, The Other Guys is perfectly suitable (if extremely scattered) but it's neither as inventive nor as uproarious as McKay and Ferrell's best.

This is McKay's best movie and that says a lot about how much I like this director. A modest buddy movie to spend two quiet hours.

I agree with the user rucknrun, this movie was awful, absolutely awful:- Will Ferrell was lame and boring, Mark was yelling all the time, Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L Jackson's very short scenes didn't make sense at all. and the movie just drags on and on with failed humor attempts and a very unappealing cast, i was watching it with my friend and we both hoped it will end soon, we eventually turned it off !! if u ever get your hands on a DVD of it, remove it right away, it's a terrible movie !!!

I don't know what it was, but I was just bored in theaters when I saw this. I like Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, but this one just didn't do it for me. Maybe I should take a second look at it, but right now I don't think this one had much of anything funny.
