Despite some pacing issues, the film manages to somewhat untangle a potentially compelling true story, largely thanks to the charisma of Ma Dong-seok.

As action films go, this is pretty decent. There are some cliches perhaps but the special effects are good and there's certainly plenty of action. The violence isn't too extreme, I thought. Its pretty gripping at times and I thought it was a good example of this type of film. Yes I'd recommend it.

A story about a cop and a gangster working together to catch a serial killer
That sounded pretty good, but does the story delivers? In terms of entertainment I can say yes it does. The film itself isn't inventive enough, but it manages to maintain the rhythm and tone during most of its execution time and that's a solid element considering the story, despite its good intentions, never manages to become something higher than the norm of Korean cinema that deals with criminals and police. Frankly, I would say that a much darker tone would've made this film much more relevant because it had the elements to have become a brutal noir film but as I said, the clichés of this genre in Korean cinema take their toll and take away some strength from it. . I can't tell you that after finishing it - if you see it, of course - you won't get an unforgettable impression, but if you're looking for an entertaining story to pass the time, consider it a good option.

While it's not the most original movie out there, it still manages to hold it's own. Supported by good acting performances, great cinematography, an enjoyable soundtrack and very well made action sequences, The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil is a fun, entertaining action flick that should please just about anyone in need of a well made action movie.

Really refreshing movie. A typical Hollywood action movies, with an dept to it you can't find in American movies anymore
