What it lacks in depth, it makes up for with style, well-handled action, and an entertaining central duo. More proof, if needed, that Ma Dong-seok is a star.

A wily, hard-hitting slab of old-school action badassery.

Really refreshing movie. A typical Hollywood action movies, with an dept to it you can't find in American movies anymore

As action films go, this is pretty decent. There are some cliches perhaps but the special effects are good and there's certainly plenty of action. The violence isn't too extreme, I thought. Its pretty gripping at times and I thought it was a good example of this type of film. Yes I'd recommend it.

What it lacks in substance is compensated for by Lee’s entertaining performance.

A wily mix of genres and spoof-edged amusements keep it playful and intermittently thrilling, even though this South Korean actioner sometimes feels like it’s losing its grip on a very good setup.

Ma, with his natty suits and ruthless glare, brings heft and humour to the proceedings and easily upstages his pretty-boy co-stars.

As much fun as it is to watch Lee beat people up and strut around in shiny pinstripe suits, it’s just as much of a pleasure to watch him think it all through.

While it’s tempting to go easy on this frequently electric film, and forgive it for not living up to its full potential, the most satisfying thing about Lee’s spotty underworld adventure is the sense that we’ve been conditioned to expect better.

Despite some pacing issues, the film manages to somewhat untangle a potentially compelling true story, largely thanks to the charisma of Ma Dong-seok.

While it's not the most original movie out there, it still manages to hold it's own. Supported by good acting performances, great cinematography, an enjoyable soundtrack and very well made action sequences, The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil is a fun, entertaining action flick that should please just about anyone in need of a well made action movie.

A story about a cop and a gangster working together to catch a serial killer That sounded pretty good, but does the story delivers? In terms of entertainment I can say yes it does. The film itself isn't inventive enough, but it manages to maintain the rhythm and tone during most of its execution time and that's a solid element considering the story, despite its good intentions, never manages to become something higher than the norm of Korean cinema that deals with criminals and police. Frankly, I would say that a much darker tone would've made this film much more relevant because it had the elements to have become a brutal noir film but as I said, the clichés of this genre in Korean cinema take their toll and take away some strength from it. . I can't tell you that after finishing it - if you see it, of course - you won't get an unforgettable impression, but if you're looking for an entertaining story to pass the time, consider it a good option.
