There’s no predicting how “Teacher” will play in the world wide cinescape. But it hit me. I found writer-director Adam Dick’s debut feature relentlessly disturbing on all sorts of levels. And no, that won’t be to every taste.

There is a lot of media that tries to cover the subject of bullying. This film, though, does so much more. With masterful performances, the writer/director goes a step further than telling a story about bullying or revenge or anything so trite. This is a thoughtful examination of cycles of abuse, power, privilege, and empathy--it takes the viewer through complex feelings that these kinds of issues might inspire, but it also asks us to reevaluate some of our knee-jerk reactions. It is a deeply nuanced take on the subject matter--but also a damn good flick with a lot of heart and some moments of well-placed humor. Totally worth your time, with some great acting, and a timely statement from a new writer/director!

I like the idea for this movie. The teacher is creepy enough, but the rest of the cast aren't very good.
