Sinners, the new film directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, needs no more than a one-word review; Stunning. Magical also works. So does unforgettable.

What makes Sinners, set in 1932 Clarksdale Mississippi, so effective—so chilling, so hypnotic, and occasionally so grimly funny—is the way it yields to mystery, never seeking to overexplain.

The best movie of 2025. Sinners mixes musical, horror, drama, family, and romance all into one, giving you an enthralling experience throughout the film. Michael B Jordan's performance deserves Best Actor at the Oscars.

Ryan Coogler enters the horror realm and nails it in Sinners, which drops vampires into a deeply personal, heartfelt, emotional, sexy, and bloody story that’ll stick with you.

Sinners is one of the most distinctive, confident mainstream films of the modern era, but it nonetheless leaves an audience with the tacit reminder of the limits of art to set one free in a system that profits as much off its exploitation as that of manual labor.

The ending’s a bit iffy, the action so-so. And yet the genre-mashing audacity (part horror, part historical epic, part musical) is so assured, the characters so rich, and the flights of fancy so ambitious that it’s impossible not to be moved.

I wanted to love Sinners more than I did but the energy level is so infectious that it’s impossible not to get swept up and pulled in. It’s a sloppy concoction that carves out a new niche for vampires not unlike what Let the Right One In achieved.

Coogler introduces themes, agendas and histories in collision with this film. But once “Sinners” transitions from Black history at a crossroads into straight-up horror, nothing much is made of the Big Ideas in this ungainly mashup of “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Crossroads” and “From Dust Til Dawn.”

This is sometimes boring because it is a little pretentious although beautifully made with high production quality except it sometimes has a fake ultra processed look to it especially when outside during the day. There is a really long build up setting up the story and characters with subtle hints of what it’s about. You could easily skip the first 35 minutes and miss nothing. The great moments are really great but there are too few of them. The whole siege is great but it’s still flawed with excessive exposition breaking it up. It’s simply not as entertaining as From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). If you love a slow burn then you’ll like Sinners more than me. The climax didn’t really make logical sense to me, did the antagonist not think through their plan? The aspect ratio changing was deeply annoying. I hate that pretentious thing of adding scenes in the credits that add nothing to the story. The truly epic moments are wasted by a lack of story, similar forgettable characters and far too many slow pointless scenes. But the epic moments are so good. The whole music thing was cool but had no point in the plot, without it you would have the same film. Weapons (2025) is better.

Forgettable first half, but the rest of the movie was a drama thriller that combines vampire lore with musical aspiration. Cons: The first half of the movie bored me a bit, and the ending was a bit anticlimatic. The final battle was also kinda rushed and didn't leave me completely satisfied. Pros: Every scene with a vampire was entertaining and kept me on the edge of my seat. The music was great and incorporated in rather unique ways such as the vampires dancing creepily in circles. This movie did a great job at making me care about almost all the main characters and kept the stakes high by not being afraid to kill characters off. Hailiee Steinfield's character, Mary, was one of the characters that really stood out to me. I think that it was cool that Michael B. Jordan played twins. The presence of twins really paid homage to the use of dopplegangers in other vampire stories.

Great acting and sets, good music. Terrible story. Racial identity politics couldn't be more obvious. Evil white vampire plays an Irish song I believe while attacking the peace seeking blacks. The acting from the entire cast is above board. Kudos. Cinematography was excellent but was only driven for a desire to demonstrate white = bad

This movie is awful. The first hour is boring nonsense. Then you realize the movie is about cultural appropriation with the white vampires stealing the culture from the cool blacks, which is ironic since this movie is just an appropriation of From Dusk to Dawn but with no interesting characters. We were so gaslit on this movie. It **** (blood and ass).
