Sex Doll, flat though it may sometimes be, is shrewdly aware of the countless clichés surrounding sex work.

Tighter pacing, more dimensional and compelling characters, and twistier consequences could have helped better propel this dark, semi-intriguing tale.

The lead performers deliver faultless performances, and are certainly not tough on the eyes. But their efforts are not enough to lift this moody erotic thriller above its pretensions.

The movie doesn’t credit any source material, but it plays like a poorly dramatized magazine exposé.
